What was your favorite quote that PJ&co added into the movies?
Please, no ramblings about how PJ sux or about how PJ rox; just favorite PJ quotes. Thanks! :)

I'd say it was the speech that Sam gave at the end of TTT:
Sam: It's like in the great stories, Mr. Frodo, the ones that really matter.
Full of Darkness and Danger they were.
And sometimes you didn't want to know the end, because how could the end be happy?
How could the world go back to the way it was when so much bad had happened?
But in the end, it's only a passing thing, this shadow.
Even darkness must pass. A new day will come.
And when the sun shines, it'll shine out the clearer.
Those are the stories that stayed with you, that meant something,
even if you were too small to understand why.
But I think, Mr. Frodo, I do understand, I know now.
Folk in those stories had lots of chances of turnin' back, only they didn't.
They kept going, because they were holding on to something.
Frodo: What are we holding on to, Sam?
Sam: That there's some good in this world, Mr. Frodo, and it's worth fighting for.
:D

I don't think that was really PJ originated, more adapted: Didn't he say that (basically, at least) in the Return of the King?

Not really, he said a few parts of it, but not like this...

Of course, even PJ didn't have the audacity to re-invent hobbits...although intruducing them through Bilbo was a nice touch.

i liked 'stupid fat hobbit', 'you could've picked a better spot' and 'i would have followed you my brother...my captain...my king.'
what i really don't get is in the FOTR, Sam says in the corn field 'Don't you loose him Samwise Gamgee' but in the boat at the end, he says 'Don't you leave him Samwise Gamgee'. hmm...strange...

He actually mis-spoke his line in the boat, but they left it that way because it sounded good and made sense.
I liked Gimli in Moria "Now, Master Elf, you will experience the fabled hospitality of the dwarves! [something]...malt beerr ...rrrrr ed meat off the bone!" (of course that wasn't his attitude in the book, but I just like the lines and the way they are delivered.)
I also love Grima saying "Why do you trouble an already troubled mind?" and I take every opportunity to say that like he does when someone complains at me.:D

ummm cant remember if it was in the book if it was it wasnt in the same place as the movie "Let them come, there is one dwarf in Moria who still draws breath" or in Lothlorien the "And do you know what this dwarf says to that..."
both classics... i cant beleive someone actually liked that "you could have picked a better spot" line that was down there with the we dwarves are natural sprinters very dangerous over short distances...
Gwaimir Windgem
01-28-2003, 10:51 PM
Hmm? Didn't notice the natural sprinters line: Where was it?
Celebréiel
01-28-2003, 10:59 PM
I think you mean the one near the beginning, Gimlis rambling on about how dwarves are good spinters, not good at long distances...yata yata yata
Fav. Pj line? eh...the whole second breakfast thing. ;) I cant help it, I thought it was cute.

Actually my favorite was probably during the Gollum/Smeagol conversation when he covers his ears and says "I'm not listening. I'm not listening" and also when he quickly replies with "No." :D

"They do not know what lies ahead when sun is gone and moon is dead."
Gollum is the best! Yay!
Though movie-Theoden is unlike the truly noble book-Theoden, I like the drama engendered by his wishy-washyness. And my favorite PJ originated scene probably would be when Aragorn is imploring him to send for help, and Theoden launches into that tirade on Gondor. "Where was Gondor when this-and-that?" And on the third one, it's "Where was Gon---" And he just chokes on his own sentence. Obviously, the end of that sentence was "Where was Gondor when my son died?" That part is very effective for me.

I liked Legolas and Gimli's exchange at Helm's deep. I think someone already mentioned it. "You could have picked a better spot"
"Shall I get you a box?"
*laughter*
Gimli's good line.

"You'll have to toss me" . .
"Don't tell the elf"
and
"I fear a cage" - eowyn

I liked Pippin's lines.:D
Erawyn

In FOTR
I don't remember it exactly, but in the extended version Aragorn and Boromir are arguing and Boromir says something like
"Yes there is frailty, yes there is weakness, but there is courage also, and honour to be found in men, but you will not see it. All your life you have hidden in the shadows, afraid of who you are afriad of what you are" ... yeah I probably messed that up but whatever...
in TTT I loved Wormtongue's "Why do you trouble an already troubled mind?" and a lot of the Theoden stuff.

"Don't encourage it" - Pippin to Merry after they first meet Treebeard. Cracks me up every time I see it :)
And
"Should I describe it to you? Or would you like me to find you a box?" although I think someone already mentioned this.
And
Gollum's scene with himself. So funny, most of the cinema was laughing at it the first time I went to see it.
Gollum: You don’t have any friends. Nobody likes YOU...
Sméagol: (Covering Ears) Not listening. Not listening.
Gollum: You’re a liar and a thief.
Sméagol: (Shakes Head) Nope.

That shot reminded me of the painting "The Scream," and I wondered if they did that on purpose.
