Where now the horse and the rider? Where did the Rohirrim men go?

OK this is not a whinge that the film differs from the book. That's fine. But the film needs to be internally consistent. So why were there only 300 to defend Helm's Deep and why were they only the old and very young? Where were the men?

There were 2000 men with Eomer, but did none of the men stay with the king?

Now in the book we know that Gamling lead those defending the Dike and they had mostly seen too many winters or too few. That makes sense because he was just holding a storehose and fortress for use when needed. The army was away fighting. And even so he had 1000 men before Theoden arrived with the army.

But in PJ's version, Theoden refuses to fight so the men should still be about. How many Rohirrim did PJ imagine there altogether? It seems to me that he makes Theoden King of Not-Very-Much

I guess that PJ was going for the whole we have the odds stacked aginst us kinda thing! Also a ploy to get the Elves involved.

The 200 thousand men that were with Eomer had taken action against the orcs and Wormtounge had them banished and i thought this was allright in showing the plight of Rohan. The only thing i didnt understand is.........why where they rideing north? Surely they should be riding south to aid gondor and at least help stem the tide from that direction

pj probibly wanted to make it more dramatic like there was no hope of winning. i also agree that that mighthave been done so the elves could get in on the fight.

and um.......... arent elven archers supposed to be good warriors? so why was legolas the only elf seen in that last ride against the uruk hai?

Actually I the more I have thought about it the more I think that the elves were at Helm's Deep to show that it wasn't just the Humans that were fighting, because at the same time there were wars going on near Mirkwood that the elves were fighting in, so I think that is where we can find the tie for the elves at Helm's Deep among a few other things...

I think it's called Men, isn't it?

And weren't there also attacks on Lorien?

But I think that that does make some sense...but it rather invalidates the Last Alliance...

If you'll remember, there weren't very many Men left to ride at all, so my guess would be that Legolas was the only Elf left.

Correct, but they were simultaneous with the battle of the Pellenor.
