I do know what to say. :)
We really can't relate the One Ring to modern problems because there is no Crack of Doom to throw our equivalent One Ring into. All we can do is throw our personal rings into our individual cracks of doom. :D

how about if we just chuck Georgey dubbya into the nearest volcano and call it a comprimise?:D

I think it's a confirmation of my long-held belief that George "dubious" Bush is really Sauron.

FWIW
Bush's Job Rating - make you own graph (http://www.pollingreport.com/BushJob.htm)
It's back to about the worst it's ever been. The approval numbers are almost as low as before 9/11 and the disapproval is almost as high.

The picture of Arwen is weird. (It is actually a scene cut from FotR.) Elves don't sleep the same way humans do, so that would never have happened.

thats really funny! all we gotta do now is find some midgets with hairy feet to take it from him and throw it into a volcano!

funny butI don't think that Frodo was in love with anybody(esp. not Gandalf)

The writing on the Ring only appeared briefly when it had been in a fire.
Even though I think the Bush-Sauron connection is funny, and at times, scarily accurate.

I really don't see the comparison between, Mr. Bush and the one ring.
Except of course that they were both spawned from pure evil, and that they are totally bent on destroying countless others, and bending the world to it's bitter and corrupted will.
Now had the comparison been George W. and Satan then maybe I could see your point.
Beleg Strongbow

And, to paraphrase the start of the FOTR movie, their "cruelty, malice, and will to dominate all life" makes them miss other solutions to their problems.

A Council Meeting in Minas Tirith. Gandalf and Aragorn talk with their advisors about going to war with Mordor.
Gandalf the White: I council that we take the fight to Sauron...keep his eye on us. I propose we take an army to Mordor!!!
Beleg Strongbow: I disagree. I think we should find another solution to the Sauron problem. Let's try all peaceful means.
Aragorn: Open war is upon you, whether you risk it or not.
Nurvingiel: This is just a personal vendetta for you, Aragorn. You just want to see Sauron out of power because of his old feud with your forefathers.
(anarion stands and points an accusing finger at Gandalf and Aragorn.)
anarion: You two are the TRUE ENEMY. You are totally bent on destroying countless others, and bending the world to your bitter and corrupted will.
Gandalf: (sighing) Now I know how George W. Bush feels.

Aha! Here I agree with you, BB!
Personally, I like Bush; at least he takes some sort of action, instead of sitting on his bum discussing what's going on.
That said, I do think the picture is funny. :D
Nurvingiel
01-29-2003, 12:21 PM
LOL BB! :D
Yea! I'm an advisor to Aragorn and Gandalf!
I would like to tell Bush not to go to war with Iraq! Nice analogy.
:)
Beleg Strongbow
01-29-2003, 02:04 PM
That's perfectly correct, BB. I'm suggesting we try something other than open war.
Something crazy.
Something like, oh, trying to destroy the Ring instead. :D
Black Breathalizer

Following the analogy further:
Allowing Sauron to regain his ring would be the end of Middle-Earth as we know it.
Allowing Saddam the opportunity to use his stockpiled biological weapons of mass destruction in our country would be the end of our world as we know it.

Clearly you didn't read my post above on this thread.
We really can't relate the One Ring to modern problems because there is no Crack of Doom to throw our equivalent One Ring into.
Analogies are by their nature didactic, subject to the personal opinions of the analogizer, and therefore not supportive of any proposition other than that some people are very persistent opinionators.

Yes we do have a place to throw both the ring and it's evil master, it's called the impeachment process, followed by an eternity in federal prison.
"There he lay upon his face before the feet of Manwe and sued for pardon; but his prayer was denied, and he was cast into prison in the fastness of Mandos, whence none can escape, neither Vala, nor Elf, nor mortal Man." - nor G. W. Rightwing

All right my computer couldn't handle whatever video or parody this was, but all I have to say to you people who think George W. Bush is like Sauron:
GEORGE W. BUSH IS THE BEST DANG PRESIDENT WE EVER HAD!
So there! Would you prefer we don't go to war and just sit back and let them take over all of Eurasia and then come over for us? Huh? Huh?
Don't even get me started...I swear if I get one more fowarded petition e-mail to "stop the war" I'll barf.

I am a very Pro-Bush person. I am behind him (basically) every step of the way. However, I think that Best President is a poor description. I would say George Washington or Abraham Lincoln as the Best Presdient. But I am completely pro-Bush.

Let's not forget that most of germany thought that Hitler was the best dictator ever, and it wasn't for many years that people began to feel differently, and then it was too late.
He was also Time Magazine's Man Of The Year.
So all I can do is say wait and see, and once again it will be too late.

It's a very tough call.
Because we don't KNOW that Saddam has stockpiled weapons, but we do know that thousands of innocent civilians would die in any conflict;
and a preemptive strike is not in the best American tradition.
Seems like we're inventing scenarios, scaring ourselves with them, and reacting to the fear : I don't want a smallpox vaccination based on somebody's guess.

There has been a zillion news stories about Saddam's less-than-honest way of dealing with the UN inspectors and US intelligence has amble evidence of his stockpiling misdeeds. If you are a peacenik and wish to see the USA ignore Saddam rather than risk open war, that is your right. But saying we don't really know if Saddam is being a bad boy is a classic example of "the ostrich putting his head in the sand."

As somebody pointed out, that picture of Arwen can'r be of her sleeping, because elves don't sleep like normal people... I guess, that means, shes dead! YAY! *claps hand over mouth..* I mean No! How dreadfully sad ... NOT! SERVES HER RIGHT! HAH! THAT'S WHAT YOU GET FOR TRESSPASSING IN A MOVIE YOU DON'T BELONG IN!:D :) :D
As for the bush picture... very amusing... I am against the proposed war....

I am not a peacenik, though there are worse things to be.
Intelligence agents may have evidence but I haven't seen compelling evidence in the papers -- not that they'd put it there.
I'm sure Saddam is a b...... who deserves to die -- and many die that deserve life -- but I'm not able to give it to them. I don't think we should be too hasty to deal out death.

Entlover, it's not about judgement, in my opinion, so much as it is about the prevention of Saddam's support etc. of terrorism, and any future forays he may make into that field.

Your vague statement is an almost perfect illustration of how, despite thousands of man-years of intelligence personnel being tasked with finding it, no-one has come up with any credible evidence to link Saddam with terrorism.

If Saddam does have nuclear weapons, do we really want to piss him off?
Its a hilarious picture, BTW. :)

How about "Seldom is the question asked: is our children learning?"
Or, "There is madmen in this world, and there are terror."
But it's not really the guy's fault. He just seems to have trouble with a sentence that involves both nouns and verbs.

I submitted a (bad) poem, but am in good company.
