There are reportedly five different death scenes filmed for the character of Saruman. Christopher Lee has said that he had no idea which one would be used in the final cut.

down at the bottom of this page there's an image of Frodo in Shelob's lair. Later on the same site there's an image of Saruman impaled.

I've seen a nice shot of Saruman's throat being cut by Grima Wormtounge. Go to the "RoTK, Looking to be the Best" thread (something along those lines :) ) and go to the address I posted. They also have the old spike wheel pix but they seem to think the first one mentioned is the version that will be in the film.

Actually as I look at this pix again it doesn't show the actual "slicing" :) , just Grima looking "crazed" with "something" on the floor! can't wait to see it! :)

Well from what I read it happens this way:

Grima slits Saruman's throat and then pushing him over the balcony of Orthanc onto the spiked wheel...However, I just thought it was cool that there are 5 death scenes filmed, so maybe, just maybe the scouring might still have a chance :)

In the book, Saruman treats Wormtongue badly, and betrays him in front of the hobbits in the Shire by telling them Grima murdered one of their friends. Grima than slit Saruman's throat, and three hobbits with bows killed Grima.

In the movie, I suspect that Grima will be accused by Saruman of killing Theoden's son, Theodred . . this will lead to a confrontation and the deaths of both characters. Just my best educated guess.

I believe that in the book, it was stated somewhere that Grima hated Saruman, but feared him too much to move against him, until his hatred rose to such a level that he could contain himself no longer. (Well, that he hated him and feared him, the rest is what I put together from the story ;) )

In addition to what I wrote above about what I read where Grima slits Saruman's throat and then pushing him over the balcony onto the spike, I also read that as Grima does that, he is shot be an arrow from Legolas...

Well at least the kept Grima's death the same as in the book. Why does Saruman need to be pushed onto a spike? Getting his throat slit would be enough, wouldn't it? I thought he was just going to be pushed onto the big spiky wheel. The reason I thought Sarumans death would be changed from the books is that getting his throat slit would be a bit too graphic for the younger ones in the audience.
