I was just looking at some of these pictures again, look at how much Gollum's face looks like Andy Serkis's (the guy who does his voice) face. There are pics above of him as Smeagol where you can compare. Looking at those, I bet when they made the CG character of Gollum that they shaped it off of his face, only made it rather rough and famished looking...

I think that they want Andy's face in Gollun's because he put so much into these movies and his 'own flesh and blood' wont be on screen. I actually think that Gollum is cute. in a baby sorta way.

Actually from what I read there is a chance that Andy will be on screen for a flashback to Smeagol/Deagol scene in either Return of the King or in the Extended Edition of the TTT DVD :D

I think why there is so much simularity is because it makes it easy for the CGI animators to make Gollum.

in the TTT visual companion, I saw a pic with Smeagol in a boat with someone else but you cant see who it is because theyre back is to you. There are TONS of pics in there of stuff that didnt show up in TTT. I think the EE will be awesome!
