View Full Version : Some observations...

I don't think these are necessarily mistakes... but... some observations I made.
1- at the beginning of the movie TTT, when Gollum sneaks up on Frodo and Sam and that whole outbreak occurs... At one point, Gollum is reaching for the Ring, he and Frodo are straining against eachother. The film goes silent... and I think maybe Slow-Motion... and a familiar straining/effort sound is "made" by Frodo. I think they inserted a sound clip from Frodo's painful gasp from FOTR in the Mines of Moria when the cave troll pricks his mithril coat and he is seemingly dying. Doesn't it seem like the seem soundclip used for both scenes?
2- When Faramir's men ambush Gollum in TTT, when he is fishing from the Forbidden Pool, Frodo says something like "Smeagol! Listen to me! Don't struggle!" or something. It sounded like he was expecting the ambush to occur and had some instruction ready. That is certainly the impression my brother got upon seeing the film, and not having read the books, he was a bit confused.
What do you think?

I agree with you; I think they might have done that. Even before I read this post it seemed to me like they did that. I don't like how they repeat the part where he sounds constipated. No offense meant to Elijah (or anybody else), but he kind of does. Hehe.

I think Frodo was expecting an ambush to happen because he doesn't trust Faramir. Frankly, I expected it to happen as well, even though I hadn't read The Two Towers before the movie came out. Also because Faramir was just about to have his men release their arrows when Frodo gave in and told him not to do it. I think that Frodo had become a lot more alert during this whole Ring business, and he was prepared for mostly anything. And after all, Frodo is very brave and I am proud of him. I think it's good that he "had some instruction ready", as you said before. Okay, that's all I have to say. "I'm going now." "Bilbo. The Ring is in your pocket." (Hehe, I couldn't help but put that in...I'm not sure if it's the right quote though. Oh well)

About the ambush:
In the book Faramir tells Frodo that he will only let Gollum live if he can be capture quickly. So Frodo lures Gollum into the ambush to save his life, but to Gollum it looks like Frodo is being "tricksy" I hope that clears it up.:)

right. If somethings unclear in the movie, sometimes reading the book will clear things up(I think people should read the books before they waych the movie anyway, but that's just my opinon:)

I know! I am not complaining anout the books, I am saying it is unclear in the movie! Movie and books are seperate things. I understand it in the books but the movie can't stand by itself in that matter and is unclear about that.

Having read the book and seen the movie, I think PJ was trying to make that scene work for those in the world that havn't read Tolkien ( GASP! )....=-) My impression was that Frodo was trying to lead Gollum into the trap ( because Gollum was going to be skewrd otherwise ), knowing what was going to happen through intuition, but then was trying to help him when the guards grabbed Gollum, by telling him not to struggle.
That was just my impression! =-) By no means an educated opinion.....

the only thing i noticed about the forbidden pool scene was how crappy gollums senses became when he got his fish at last and he didnt hear frodo at the side of the water or indeed not even when frodo called to him... i dont think they needed to do those angles on frodo which screamed trap to anyone with half a brain... then gollum made the situation even more shifty with his "we must go... now?"
i thought they overdid it a bit to much and made frodo look like a prick which wasnt needed as he proved himself one later on when he tried to kill his sam

Here are a few things I noticed that I don't think have been mentioned:
1. I think PJ's kids make another cameo as two of the chidren in the Glittering Caves, and each one gets a close up as well. They have on blond wigs, though.
2. At the Forbidden Pool, look at the moon, and you can see its smiling face.:)
3. When Faramir figures out from Gollum what Frodo has, he comes in and says, "So, this is the answer to all the riddles," or something, and I wonder if that was a little homage to "What have I got in my pocket?" If not I think it's funny anyway (get it? The ring is the answer.):D

1-I dont really know if it is the same sound clir or anything. I never really thought of it. U may be right.
2-He was expecting the ambush. He told Faramir that he wanted to see him and Faramir didn't want him to get away. Frodo was ok with the 'capture' if they wouldn't hurt him
