Hello fellow creatures of middle-earth. This is a late notice, but i've only started working on the celebrations for JRR Tolkien's eleventy-first birth anniversary. In case you haven't noticed, it falls on the 3rd of January this 2003 (by Gregorian count). Myself and a tribe of friends have booked a lodge in the boreal woods of eastern Manitoba for 5 nights and are planning to celebrate, including a hobbits' (double) breakfast, poetry, music, wine, smoke rings, and does anyone have a recipe for lembas. In addition to this, there will be a council on the fate and wellbeing of middle-earth (or EArth if you will) in which we will discuss the future of our planet, the loss of myths and magic and ways in which we can reinvigorate the dying spirit of our world with energy and imagination.

Why not organize something similar in your land, even if it is in an urban setting and just on the 3rd? It is important to put the magic back into being alive and to spread it!

What a fun idea, to celebrate JRRT's 111st bday! I'm glad you brought it up. We'll definitely think of something fun to do at our house, but don't think we'll travel anywhere special.

Sounds Fun!!!But...(Uh-Oh, here comes the reasons I can't) none of my friends are in to Tolkien very much.:( So I'll have to do all that alone. Luckily I'm good at talking to my self so I can do the coucil too!:D

I'll try to celebrate, but I don't know how...none of my friends are into Tolkien that much, so I'll probably end up doing the same thing as Duddun :D

Eleventy-one today!

I'm "celebrating" by treating myself to a new copy of LotR........seems quite a fitting date to buy it:) .......... and I need a little justification for spending that much cash on a book;)

About a couple of minutes, I just thought of the tune and wrote anything that fitted it I guess.

My sisters and I celebrated JRRT's birthday by making truffle-cake (again - I did that for Bilbo and Frodo's birthday too) and singing Happy Birthday. And I wrote a poem. But I'm not going to tell you.

I went on a long quest yesterday to find a Frodoll, and I did find it, in the least likely place. SuperTarget! I squealed quite loudly in the middle of the store.

What a year of coincidences considering that 2003 is the year of the last movie and BilBo was 111 when he was last in the shire. Odd isn't it.

It was nice of them to give thought to him. And note that it was his " Eleventy First". I think that was kind and he probably would have appreiciated it.:) :) :)
