OK IS THE SILMARILLION A REAL BOOK? IS IT WRITTEN BY TOLKIEN? WAS IT WRITTEN BEFORE OR AFTER THE LORD OF THE RINGS?

Yes it is in fact a real book - it would be rather silly to devote this forum to it otherwise, don't you think? :)

Tolkien worked on the mythology of the Silmarillion over the course of his entire life. He began it well before Lord of the Rings, but was unable to complete the Silm during his lifetime. It was published posthumously after being edited by his son Christopher.

It was put together out of Tolkien's notes by his son Christopher.
