Fun in the UK

I'm hoping that this summer (or perhaps the next) I will make a trip to the UK (if i'm not still flat broke.) What I'm wondering is: What are the good sights to see over there?

The only thing wrong with Scotland is that it's attached to England. (etc etc shall we start a thread on this, Sween?)

So, with that in mind, go to:
Dorset: unspoiled, Tolkienesque, villagey pub type things, fantastic beaches, best kept secret in the whole of England.
London: Take a walk along the south bank, or even better, take a train to Richmond and come back to Westminster on the boat. Then go out on the town.
Bath / Bristol: loads to do in Bristol, Bath is stunning (well, bits of it are). And you can stop off at Stonehenge on the way from London.
Edinburgh: one of the world's most beautiful cities, and great nightlife.
Scottish highlands: Awesome, if you can see them through the drizzle and clouds of midges. (Avoid if it's July or August; in May or June you might get lucky and it's better than the Caribbean)

ive a cousin in both bath and bristol i really wanna get down there soon. Just damn work stopping me :mad: .

When you visit england i think you should just see it all every part is very diffrent, we all speak very diffrentally even if the places are only a few miles away. No such thing as the real england as we are all so diffrent.

It didn't really break away - it was invaded by England and taken over. Although during King John's reign - all of Ireland was "owned" by England. England has always wanted to control Ireland - just like they always wanted to control Scotland and Wales.

I would go to Cantebury - I always wanted to go there - especially since King Henry II and Thomas a Becket is my favorite time period in English History. Actually the entire Plantagenet period is my favorite.

Durham City for the Norman cathedral (some of it familiar from Harry Potter films) and castle, medieval market square, tucked away pubs, pavement cafes etc. that sort of thing.

Then onto Newcastle's Quayside for a night out (dress smart, NO red and white sportswear in particular!). If you survive that head west on the old military road along the line of Hadrian's Wall (lots of Roman forts and bits of, well, wall to see) that brings you to Cumbria - drop south to Ullswater, which is my favourite Lake. Walk a hill, find a pub, or some combination.
Then on up to Scotland! Or just stay in the pub. Whatever.

I've spent some time in Durham and can vouch independently for its grooviness. Not so sure about..

Note the use of the conditional... actually I'll shut up coz I've only spent one night in the Toon and never been out on a proper bender there. However, suffice to say that Newcastle's night life is the stuff of legend.

I did a really cool thing this summer on Loch Tay in Perthshire. They've reconstructed a Crannog, an ancient form of dwelling built out on the loch (Esgaroth-style) where you're safe from ravening wolves, maruading marauders and the like. In addition to the usual museumy stuff, they have traditional music evenings where you can sit round a fire and play and/or listen to celtic music. Fantastic on a summer evening, when twilight lasts for hours.

Literally right next door is a watersports centre; if you've still got the energy you can stroll up Schiehallion, an awesome view to be had from the top; and if you're a Treebeard fan, the oldest tree in Europe is just up the road (> 5,000 yrs according to the thing on the wall).

What more could you ask for? Well, OK, shops, nightclubs, cinemas. But hey..

Where is this unrivalled extravaganza I hear you ask? Er.. I can't remember, hang on, (quick search on Google): Croft-na-caber, Kenmore, near Aberfeldy.

Ohhhhhhhhh Yeah you've gotta visit Alton Towers it's wicked!
I really like London so you should go there! and on the Big Eye!
Don't bother coming to Sheffield though!! There is nothing good up here! There's Meadowhall which is a nightmare!!

Oh and Sean Bean lives here which is quite cool!! (even though i have never seen him!) but besides that there is nothing! :confused:

Yeh've got to go on Valhalla in blackpool!!!! Also southport's a nice place for relaxation and flying Kites on the beach!!! I f you look across the sea you can see BlackPool!! Say HI!!! To The People!!!!

Alton towers are good!! Chessington world of Adventures is brilliant!!! And you should see the Eden Project in Cornwall!!

Watch out for schowcers!!

Hey, my dad was one of the structural engineers who built Valhalla! :D

Anyway, if you come to Manchester I'll take you on a pub crawl! Alton Towers is great, though it's a shame they got rid of the Thunder...whatsit, i forget. The one like Revolution at Blackpool. Gah, names...confusing.

London is the most popular obviously, but if you go there do visit the tower.

The west end is great london is just great so much to do and see totally diffrent lifestyle.

Allthough i have never been stonehenge would be good.

I really want to go to Stonehenge, but i hear you're not really allowed near it. Like near enough to touvh the stones. So, i plan to go there and run past, probably being chased by security :D Kinda thing i do.

Good luck, last time I heard it was all fenced in. My sister was allowed in though, when she and her friends visited it. Isn't it handy to an archeologist? *sigh* But I want to see it too!

GO TO LONDON!!!! GO TO LONDON!!!!!! It has to be the most amazing vibrant city in the world. Get yourself to Covent Garden and dance to the mad music students who busk there. Then head to Leicester square and see the Odean where all the best films are premiered. Then go to the Cafe Boheme and meet up with me and my mad Bohemian crowd!!!! And Harrods- buy a packet of sweets just so you can have the glory of walking with a bag with the crest on it. Go to the National Gallery and the British museum and see beautiful artworks and artefacts!! Go and see We Will Rock You at the Dominion and then go to Hyde Park to see the Peter Pan statue and take a pedlo on the Serpentine. I love London and anyone who comes to England should see it- even pay a visit to Her Majesty!!! Mx

18 but where i live you can get away with 13 or 14 and if with me in my local could probably get ya drinks from any age
