Its MarshmAllows not marshmEllows!!
At least it is here. Our way looks better.
Neway I adore marshmAllows. They used to be a regular on our shopping list. until my mum realised how many i ate alone!
Toasting them on a fire is the best way to have them!:p

Marshmallows? Brings back memories of toasting them round the camp fire at patrol camp with the guides. When they got really gooey we'd hurl them at eachother and end up with sticky stuff in our hair which we had to try and wash out in the buckets that served for basins!!! It was so much fun! Mx

I like them too. Too bad they are made of boiled bone ligaments, cow + pig hoolves, etc. gelatin main ingrediant. What did you think that was? :p Slightly yellow transparent jiggly subtance.... jell-o is that plus added flavor and color.

This bothered me for a few months - then i got over it. After all, we eat beef and chicken, etc.

Elven Archer

I thought they were made from the marshmallow plant.

It certainly used to be........hoofs, bones etc boiled down to produce glue......I think a lot of glues are synthetically manufactured now.

marsh·mal·low n.
1. a. A light, spongy, very sweet confection made of corn syrup, gelatin, sugar, and starch and dusted with powdered sugar.
b. A confection of sweetened paste, formerly made from the root of the marshmallow plant.
-Dictionary.com

Ahem. :) They are not made of boiled bone ligaments or cow or pig hooves, and gelatin is not the main ingredient. Unless I am mistaken, it's corn syrup or sugar.

What did you think that was?

Almost pure sugar with a little bit of gelatin, actually, because they melt in your mouth. :)

Oh, and I think they're delicious, but I can't eat too many at a time or I'll get sick.

I love the tiny ones in Hot Chocolate with whipped cream and then they start to melt and go all gooey and lovely!!!

I tried toasting them before and then one caught fire! It was quite funny actually!! :D

Elven Archer

me and my friend were roasting marshmallows and hers caught on fire and then she flung it off the stick.it was pretty funny. and this is kinda off the subject but it was the same friend. i was popping popcorn over the stove in an old pop corn popper and i had all but one kernal popped so I held it still for a split second and i guess it was just too hot cause all of a sudden it burst into flames and so the whole basket full of popcorn was on fire and then while we were trying to get it to the sink it almost got the cabinets on fire. anyway they were both really funny at the time.

Elenka

ooh, one time my mom forgot to put the lid on the pot she was popping popcorn in! I walked into the kitchen, and little flying fiery popcorn comets were zooming all over the kitchen. It was cool.

That stuff we were saying earlier about glue and horses and dead horses? True, they wait until the horse is dead before lopping the hooves off or whatever, but do you have any idea how animals are killed in those factories? Believe me it ain't nice, painless, or pretty. You can PM me for details, but I don't really think you'd want to know...:(

Firekitten2006

You have factories for the slaughter of horses?.......in the UK animals that are knackered go to a aboitour then the carcass is sold off (usually to a dog/cat food manufacturer, check out the "official" igredients of most popular domestic pet foods) at least we are still more civilised than continental europe where they still eat horse-steaks. blech.

EDIT: Forgot to mention that only a horse with a Vets certificate (saying that it should be put to death) can go to an aboitour.

gelatin, the one they use for food, is made out of plant extracts. Alas, those PETA fruitloops fowl something else up.

This is off topic but interesting. In the newpaper 2 mts. ago this guy was arrested for microwaving his girlfriends dog (OW) and now PETA are asking for life imprisonment w/o parole (sp), is that even ...well...logical/ rational?

Since when has it been against the law to prepare exotic food?
;) (j/k)

Sounds like life imprisonment is a bit of an overkill here.........maybe the guy would benefit more from some good psychiatric help.

I think he should proabbly give his girlfriend restituition and all that good law garble. but he needs to have some punishment. 5 yrs. parole. Community service in an animal shelter!

nope. but i have tried marshmallows with sweet potatoes. Marshmallows in ketchup doesn't sound like something i'd like. neither does tomato soup with sugar. i don't even like crackers in my tomato soup. i like sugar and butter on rice though. have you ever tried fries dipped in a Wendy's frosty? that's really good.

Can you provide a source for this information? As the Vegetarian Society (http://www.vegsoc.org/info/stumbling.html) has gelatin listed as one of the stumbling blocks. It mentions nothing about gelatin being made out of plant extracts.

Mind you I don't eat most things that other people seem to like (doughnuts, peanut butter, chocolate - except choc body paint - chocolate cake, pies from shops, kiwi fruit, bananas and the list goes on & on) so yeah, ok *stupid train of thought sped off before I could board completely*
