yes, me again. i bet i'm starting to bore you, so i'll make this short.

i read in a story onFanfiction.net (http://www.fanfiction.net) (well, it was the author arguing with Peter Jackson  ) that... (spoiler coming up, be warned!!!) ...Peter Jackson kills off Haldir!   (i can't even remember who he is!).

I put this because on a quiz i turned out to be Haldir, that i was 'Destined' to be him, so i was quite upset when i found out that i was destined to be a dead-to-be character! :(

if you have any background info on Haldir then you can post it here! :)

Haldir is that snotty blond lorien elf with a five'o clock shadow that said they could shoot gimli in the dark. I hope he is killed off...he's an ass.

Hey! I liked Haldir! PJ just can't go killing off *named* elves! Kill Mr Random Elf instead.;)
And the "could have shot him in the dark" line - I thought it was funny!

Noooooooooo!! they can't kill Haldir off!! He's cool!!
It's not everyday you find a camp elf going "A dwarf breathes so loud that i could have shot him in the dark" you just need the wrist actions don't you!! :)

Ërendil
11-27-2002, 06:04 PM
Yeah, he can't kill off Haldir!
I mean he is so funny, especially the "A dwarf breathes so loud we can shoot him in the dark" line, and I thought that he was really fussy in the extended version so they can't get rid of him!

Varda Oiolosseo
11-27-2002, 06:09 PM
He totally rules and is one of my fave characters!!! Who can be the camp elf now?? ( Do not say Legolas coz he is not camp!!) I can imagine that thought being in Ërendil's mind right now!!

That is because, Varda, I told you it was and sent you a PM telling you that.

How accurate do you think the information is elf.freak? Can anyone else confirm it?

Not fair...but oh well. Haldir's a minor character...they can't really expand him, so why not kill him? Okay...that sounded scarily barbaric. Icky..but I think that that must be what the filmwriters thought! I guess it's a bloodthirsty Hollywood-ized thing that *sigh* we'll have to deal with.

Oh God I'll cry so much!!!!! Haldir makes me giggle so much- he was an unending source of amusements when we were on the tuesday afternoon, cheap day at cinema, LOTR trips for weeks- I saw it nineteen times in all at the cinema and never once didn't I laugh at Haldir and its great that he's got a bit more to say in the extended edition. If PJ kills him I'll cry and cry and cry and end up drowning the rows in front of me. I'll be as bad as I was with Gandalf in Moria and Boromir at Amon Hen (actually I do have a chuckle at that at times- for years Sean played Sharpe and got shot so many times he should have died but he was always back in the next episode. Then he does one LOTR flick and he's dead at the end of the first film- life's a b***er isn't it?) Tee hee Mx

You can't not laugh at Haldir can you??
He's great and say: DON'T KILL HALDIR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Haldir's enigmatic... and funny. I sure hope they don't kill him off, but I heard this months ago. And whatever I hear is usually true. Well, whatever I believe. So yes, I think Haldir will kick the bucket. Bye-bye, bumpy nose.:( :( :(

KILL HIM GOOD!!!!... i can understand people being upset for Boromir and Theoden and the like but, in the movie, he was just such an arrogant f@#$... honestly 'the dwarf breathes so loudly i could have shot him in the dark' then Gimli launches and hacks him down with one fell stroke... celeborn tries to come to his rescue but Gimli decides he is girlish aswell and fells him to... while he is at it he grabs legolas' knife and tries to fix Elronds enlarged forhead...

sorry you had to read that folks...

Elves that die in battle can come back, you know. Glorfindel did it.

The real problem of course is not that Haldir is killed per se.

It is the problem that apparently (from all intents and purposes) PJ is sending a contingent from Lothlorien to help Rohan at the Hornburg.

I mean, WTF?

Of course in the book, the Galadhrim are too busy defending their own borders from marauding orcs to send off aid to elsewhere...

What about the Grey Company? Are they going to include the Rangers of the North? And the March of the Dead?

I'm just amazed to see that Haldir has fans!

It sounds like the Elves are going to the Hornburg battle, gotta stand up for ME like they did the first time. Kind of makes sense, once you grant the premise that this battle has become very important, rather than a local men-against-orcs melee.

I certainly hope we see the Paths of the Dead.

He seemed to be a bit more ethereal in a noble way, as opposed to Legolas who was also quite good, but not as 'noble' (which makes sense given the background of the Lothlorien and Mirkwood Elves).

Rohan managed to wipe out Saruman's forces. In fact, in a way, this was more unlooked for to me than winning at Minas Tirith, which had two sets of reinforcements only possible cos of the Helm's Deep victory.

As for the elves being there, they can piss off quite frankly. Not in the books, not necessary, etc. Who does Haldir replace? Can't remember who it is that dies at Helm's Deep of note.

Elves were extremely busy elsewhere, not simply looking on - PJ has no 'right' to make out the Elves this time are more brave and as such want to take part in the 'larger' events in the world.

I certainly hope we see the Paths of the Dead. Yes, I too am looking forward to PJ's actors in a sheet going 'ooooEEEEEooooooo'. At the end, you'll have the lead ghost saying:

'And I'd have got away with it too, if it wasn't for you meddling hobbits'.

Roll on the big battles and special effects and stunning scenery.
Roll on me timing toilet breaks deliberately to miss the story butchering :)

Why is everyone so obsessed with Haldir anyway? I think he's a pretty stupid minor little character. (And he's pretty darn ugly too.)

Too true. But in the book there're a lot of other things going on that seem equally important - Entmoot, attack on Orthanc, etc. The Helm's Deep battle was not that long. But in TT it will of course be the climax.

Unkind! PJ can do better than Scooby Doo. The ghosts should be very spooky - the Ringwraiths are pretty wraithlike. (But I've heard no rumors, nothing at all about ghosts.)

I think it's in an obscure addendum that Christopher Tolkien overlooked, wherein JRR scribbled.

"And so it was that Haldir perished, surrounded by four score fallen orcs, all with their eyes scratched out. And with great sorrow did the elvenkind lift him from the field, even as his life blood dripped red on them. And they did all on that day agree that it was actually more a sort of crimson, which on mithril looked a sort of vibrant pink, you know, one that would go quite well with woodland green, maybe?"

Elf spoiler....Spoiler!

I read that Elrond goes to Lothlorien, and has a disagreement with Galadriel and Celeborn. Now, I can't remember who takes what side,  I'm thinking Elrond wants to help the men, but G&C feel the alliance between elves and men is history, the elves "time" in Middle Earth is over. How Haldir ends up in battle we will see. Also, Legolas is angry that more elves don't come to the aid of 350 men at Helms deep fighting off 10,000 Urak hai and others. Thank goodness for the White Rider and Aragorn! :)

Please don't forget the spoiler policy!
