Hello there everyone! I admin at the Shores Of Valinor forums and I've come up with an idea you guys may be interested in hearing.

Basically an Inter-Tolkien-Board Quiz Competition. At the SoV we run Quiz comps every now and then in our quiz forum consisting of 10 questions set once a week for 3 weeks after which the person with the most right wins etc. I'm thinking that perhaps something along those lines might work but between teams of participants from several Tolkien forums to see which boasts the most knowlegdeble posters .

I remember this place from it's ezboard days so I'd thought I'd see if you'd be interested. :)

It could be worked like this.

1) Each board/forum selects a team of say 10 members.

2) Each round a different board would set a list of 10 questions to be answered by the other teams.

3) No books are to be used!

4) All 10 members from each team would then submit their answers to the person / team who set them for marking. (not to sure how this would work yet. Any ideas would be very welcome).

5) And so on until every team has had a go setting questions for the others. And the team with the most collective points wins.

I've already approached TORC and had a positve response from them as well as started a topics at Imladris, Barrow Downs and Ringbearer.org about this.

Please let me know what you think and if you'd be interested. Also if you are then what changes to the proposed rules etc you'd like to see or if there are other boards you know which you would like to see take part.

Thanks for your time :)

I hope more people here become interested in this so you can put a team out for it :).

I've had some good responses so far from some of the other boards and I'm hoping that 8 forums will take part in it.

I'm also going to try to get a rules webpage up so every forum is looking at the same rules.

Please let me know of any suggestions you have or problems you see :)

Cheers

I think you would need to have a word with Bmilder about this.

Naturally, we need to get the best Tolkien scholars on the board on the team (which no doubt means no Apprentice Loremasters:p).

P. S. -poke- SGH, I'm not Dimwitted yet...;)

I third it! ;)

Perhaps we should have our own contest first, to test the members of the team? (and he said 10 members, thus we still need 7...MM playing for our team, you think? ;) ...nah, probably not.)

I third BoP. What about Elf Girl, eh? She is quite knowledgeable (Elf Girl, have you read all of Tolkien's books (Sorry, I don't know! )).

Gwaimir Windgem

I don't think she's read the Silmarillion either, has she? I should think that at least Silmarillion and Unfinished Tales would be a requirement; preferably at least Histories of Middle-earth, as well.

Hmm...maybe we could dig up Nolendil and Michael Martinez? :D

Falagar

Btw, perhaps this thread should be moved to the M-E section?

Me too!

I think Elf Girl has read the Silm. She knows her stuff. (Believe me)

Lady of Rohan

No, BunnieQ, I can't go in it, becasue I haven't read HoME, UT, or finished the Silmarillion yet. :o

Elf Girl has read the Silmarillion (at least I am almost positive), because her long said story, revolves around the Silm a little, so I am pretty sure she has read it. :)

I doubt MM would have any interest in participating in such a contest. But we may try to awake Ñolendil...

I have read the Sil, but not UT or HOME, and I am not intending to compete!

A bit over-inflated! Better to ask one of the real Tolkien scholors here. ;)

Ooh! I thought of a way to actually have the competion.

One one message board all nominees join, with names that each have a number at the end which signafies what board they're from. (i.e. if Entmoot is 5, then SGH joins as Sister Golden Hair5) The host board creates a new forum for which a password is necessary. That password is to be Private Messaged to the nominees from each board. The questions take place in that forum. Sound good?

Yup, very good. But what does Turambar6 have to say about it? They probably already have their own system...

No, I don't think so.

The questions could be asked in the forum, then the answers could be PMed to the leader of the team that devised the question. (There will have to be leaders, who recieves incoming answer PM's.)

well, if we have made a team, and can find enough people (which, there are so many smart peoplehere, I'm sure it wouldn't be a problem), then it could happen. If someone knows the web-adress to the Shores of Valinor (the guy who thought of this goes there), then they can start a thread there and remind them about it. If every one wants to continue with this, that is. :)

Falagar

Count me in! :)
And if they don't want to, we may have our own, internal contest.
