Okay I know every, EVERY has had problems remembering a word you wanted to use in a story, a clever punch-line to a good a joke, that actor your friend likes in that new movie...Things just won't come to mind...

I can't think of the word that (feel real stupid, but then again, one fine summer, she spelled her name wrong) means people who are on a ride, or train, or some sort of transportation. It would make sense in a sentence like, "The (blank) disembarked"

Seriously, if you need help or would like to help, post, and be happy.

Can someone gimme some words I really feel stupid but come on help me!

:D

Aeryn

Eh? That's nothing! In MY day we had to walk crossed legged, five miles, in the snow, uphill, both ways!

Seriously though, I suffer from this ALL the time. That's why I invested in a boyfriend. I can drive him insane with my "What's that word? You know? That thing that starts with 'R'?..." :D

LOL!:D

The worst is when you walk into a room for something (say the kitchen) and forget what you are looking for:confused:

I make more pots of coffee because of this than is good for me;)

(hint: It's invariably the scissors, which you remember when you return to you desk/study).

Believe me you don't have to be old to forget things!!! I forget everything! Names of people- I even forgot the name of my best friend's twin brother the other day- how embarrassing. I always forget stuff for dancing to. We have a set timetable and we've been using it since september but I still manage to take my tap shoes when I have ballet and my music when I have drama. Too much LOTR- I think its fried my brain and left me in a constant state of blissful fantasy!!! Mx

I do that- usually in the middle of answering a question in class! I'm like "Stalin was the leader of the Soviet union which was a communist regime...(brain switches onto Legolas through shear boredom- mouth opens and says)...er sorry what was I saying?" Evil history teacher gives me you stupid idiot type stare and I feel as big as a hobbit at an elven tea party!!! Mx

Unfortunately, if I get asked a question about who someone was/is and I am thinking about someone else, I will probably respond with the name of whoever I was thinking about, so: I have had conversations a little like this...

History Teacher: Who discovered America?
Me *thinking about elves*: Elrond!
History Teacher: What?!

I think I'll start a thread for ridiculous answers to questions.

I don't. ]: ) I have a great memory. I think. Just a minute, I'll have to ask someone, and see if they remember...

Forgetting words, neh that happens to me all the time. I usually start calling eveything 'thingie'. I can be very coherent when I can't find the right words and use 'thingie' three times in one sentense. :D That or I can remember the word perfectly in another language but I can't find the right dutch word for it.

I've always thought "summat" was a funny one, though I'm not sure I've ever really heard it spoken. It just doesn't sound right when I say it.

By all means, use that word in another language! People will never know you "can't find the right dutch word for it." They'll think you're just showing off your language skills. :D

Last year, for some strange reason, I forgot how to speak English for about five minutes. It was wierd because I'm not really fluent in any other language.

Well ... I've never forgotten how to speak English, but one of my best friends friends did. It was a very odd because he was sitting there panicking and gesticulating wildly, and my other best friend and I thought he was going insane or something!

Yes... it was very traumatic because there were all these thoughts in my mind that weren't in the form of words; they were images. I'm lucky because this happened while I was at my house, and no one was around to witness it.

I forgot basic math once. after a long and drawn out summer, you go back and tey review, i was like in 6th and he says what is the sum of this and that. The sum? What is the sum? Do I take-away? Do I add the thingy to the summat *:D*?

Ahh yes, the Alzheimers of youth. I almost remember those days...

I see my vocabulary has been severely starved. I'll have to find a use for that one. :D Of course, clicker (can be used to refer to anything with buttons) and thingamajig also come in very handy. :D

I do the "walking into a room and have no idea why I was going there" alot. I'm seriously paranoid of getting Alzhiemers since my dad has it, but I'm pretty sure it's just my constant multi-tasking backfiring sometimes. I can't get "oldtimers"! :) I am "the brain" for the entire family! They wouldn't do anything "right" if it wern't for me!!! :D

Isnt forgetting things fun? I forgot the word for curtain once. And lots of other things.

Thingy is my favourite word. If you were to read any of my homework you could tell whether it was science or not my counting "thingies". Sometimes I will say "thingerbobber" too, but not in writing.

BoP, i use clicker for my remote control. Does anyone else do that?

I was writing to my friend from camp the other day and i totally knew her name but try as I might, I couldn't think of it. I was like, "your name is...um...give me a second...it's uh, er, yeah. Whatever your name is..."

That is me all the way. Only when it comes down to it, half the time i was actually just going into the other room because I was bored. But not always. Definately not always.

This one really got me- You know that kids show about animals with the little lemur thing and I think it's on PBS? I forgot the name of it for days. Then I suddenly remembered, and out of no where I shouted "Zooboomafoo!"

Join the club. I'm forever trying to get my point across, but for some weird reason my mind has gone on screen saver and I can't remember how to say anything in english!! Frustrating. Its at those moments when "thingamajigger" and "whahza-callums" come in soo handy. :p

That sounds a lot like one of my best friends. Not me; I talk to myself and forget thinks -- um, things -- all the time, but generally don't shout it out. I'm the one who stammers sometimes, saying a word that does not fit in the conversation, or winds up making a new word! :p

This is funny! Count me in! I haven't seen 'dealie' yet - does anyone else use that? "what's that dealie over there?" And yes, I use "clicker" for remote control. And walking into rooms and forgetting why - argh! And losing track of your point in the middle of a sentence! I think parts of my brain are going to heaven ahead of the rest of me! :D

I saw a funny t-shirt once that went something like this: "over the hill? what hill? I don't remember any hill!"

Non-english-first-language-people: "over the hill" means very old (you probably knew this, but ...) What are some Flemish or other non-English expressions for this? I love to hear expressions from other languages! Or for being forgetful? I've always liked "the lights are on, but no one's home!"

a few fries short of a happy meal?

My personal favorite...

When they made you, they broke the mold. Then, they found the moldmaker, dragged him out into the street, and shot him. Repeatedly.

Three beers short of a hangover.

Half a question short of an answer.

Four quaters short of an eighth.

I'll clean my house *rare occasion* and forget where I put stuff.

The other day, I cleaned my bathroom *a regular thing for me, I can't stand a dirty bathroom* and I couldn't find my brush this morning.

*FYI: It 'twas in the laundry room. Why? I don't know.*

Heehee...I do this all the time...and I'm 16. That must be pre-pre-pre mature Alzheimers. I hate it! Once, it was very busy in my school store, and I wanted to just quickly get some orange juice. I said..."Can I have some orange...orange...orange...um...um..." I stood there for what seemed like forever, just because I couldn't think of the word "Juice." It was really embarassing...plus, I sounded stupid when I thought of the right word, too..."JUICE! Yeah, that what it's called! Juice, please!":D It was crazy.

I say "thing" or "thingamabobber" or "stuff" when I REALLY can't think of a word. But usually, I say "like" or "um" as fillers to give me thinking time. It's horrible, and makes me sound so stupid...oh well.:p
