The best holiday ever. :D
So what is everyone doing this year for Halloween? I don't think I'm doing anything yet. I usually go all out for Halloween - but I didn't have any time this year. :(
Which countries celebrate halloween and which one's don't and what do you guys do for Halloween?

Well, last week I missed a costume party. Oh well, didn't have a costume anyway. So, tonight I am carving a jack-o-lantern, and passing out candy. Pretty dull huh?
HAPPY HALLOWEEN!

We carved four Jack-o-lanterns last night. Of course, we went to a giant pumpkin patch last week during fall break, took the hayride wagon out to the pumpkin patch, and ran around in circles for quite a while, looking for the "perfect", "most awesome" pumpkins. I decorated the house with our traditional Halloween decs three weeks ago. Of course, we played the cassette tape (that should tell you how long we've been doing this!) of "scary" Halloween sounds that is required when carving pumpkins.
We have already polished off a big bag of Halloween candy. (we live way out on a farm and do not get trick-or-treaters, but I still use this as an excuse to buy candy and put it in big bowls. :) )
Tonight we will go trick-or-treating. I will be a ghost, all white clothes, big white bathrobe, long white gloves, and a double bed size sheet with two eyes cut out. It swirls and blows in the wind, and looks very impressive from a distance. (It's hard to keep in place and see, breathe, and hold a flashlight at the same time!) I just like to create a little "atmosphere"! Daughter will be her standard black cat, son is going as Batman.
I made 17 treat bags to send to son's 1st grade class. They have little haunted house boxes with Star Wars stickers in them, Starburst lollypops, 3 kinds of bubblegum, Life-Savers gummies, Twizzlers, and Jolly Rancher lollypops. At school, they will not do "Halloween". It is called "Pumpkin Day", and is celebrated the day after. No ghosts or goblins are allowed, all activities are centered around pumpkins! Weird and rather boring, but politically correct I guess for the Halloween is the work of Satan people!

I don't know what I'm doing. Usually I go to costume parties but I'm at university and not legal so I can't go to a club. My res is going out but I have an 8;30 class :(

Because I live in Jr. Housing on campus (two steps up from dorms, but one step down from an actual apartment), the Halloween bash comes to me! Students are invited to come to "The Party in the Penthouse." Each of the six dorms will have a different theme going on. Our dorm is having a b&w movie night, and we're showing a bunch of old Alfred Hitchcock movies...The Birds, the Man who Knew Too Much, Rear Window, etc.
I still haven't decided what I'm going to dress up as.

oh i was going to do the standard, dress up as one of tolkien's elves in the costume i spent weeks making, carve my pumpkin, eat food then go out and egg houses and get smashed. (not in the dress of course:D )
but tonight im not dressing up, im not egging houses and im not going to be happy- im going to sit in the basement and try not to throw up because im sick :(
I'm taking my little brother, my little sister and their friend out trick or treating and watching most haunted!

Oh just the usual Black Mass in my house. Pentagrams, black candles, sarificie the virgin and have sex with the goat (although I may have the last two parts of the ritual confused, it doesn't seem right somehow:rolleyes: )
Seriously tho', my parents have thrown a halloween party for the kids in their street every year for the last 25 yrs!! It's cool and, if like this year, I live local to my folks I get drafted in to help with the party, great excuse for me to dress up and play at being a kid again:D .............. great fun for the bairns as well of course:D .
From their I'll be returning home for a quiet night of candles, not black, wine/beer and some cakes I have in the oven at the mo
:)
Yeah Halloween does seem to be a much bigger occasion in other countries than here:( ............. nobody over the age of 10yrs gets into Halloween much anymore:(
One small custom diffo' I've noticed is that here in NE England we tend to give gifts of money instead of candy, no idea why that is but it's generally agreed to be safer as too many sicko's put drugs and stuff in the sweets:( .
LuthienTinuviel
10-31-2002, 12:30 PM
oh that isn't nice, putting drugs in the candy.
see you don't have to worry about that here out in the boondocks. no one can afford drugs besides pot and maybe once in a while acid. but anyone who would buy acid for halloween wouldn't want to waste it on anyone who wasn't in thier close circle of friends. hehe the first time i tried acid it was halloween, heh..heh.. i got stuck in a strobe light for twenty minutes. woo!

I went out last year, nearly froze to death. Why can't ghosts wear jeans jackets? It sure would have kept this little ghost from actually freezing to death. Anyway I'm not going this year because I've got no one to go with and I'm definately not going alone. I might help my mom out (if she let me) since the shops stay open until later so kids can come and for 'een vloekje of een snoepje' (dutch variant of 'trick or treat')

Tell your mom to throw on a costume and go with you! Nobody will know who she is! hehe...I just stand to the side, I love to watch all the little kids. My favorite though, is the "young" parents, (who are still kids themselves!) that dress up their one year old, and carry the little pumpkin around saying "Trick-or-treat" for him. The baby almost always starts crying as some of the houses are done up very scary with strobe lights and scary sounds etc.

I always decorated my house in Indiana really scary. I had plastic cauldrons with dry ice and the last year I was there I took my tiki torches and had them leading up the sidewalk. Plus I always had scary sounds and I would do make up for my friends. I was usually Dracula - but I have gone as zombies.
Some parents used to come up to me and say their child was afraid - but they kept asking to go past my house again and again. :D
If I do my "ripped off zombie face" makeup - I only do half the face and one hand and arm. That way I can have my good side facing the little kids so they don't get afraid. I have a picture of me like this - I lost a bunch of pictures. I need to see if I can find my negatives or something.

I never get very excited about Halloween (or really anything for that matter -- I'm sort of a dull guy I suppose). My suite-mate has been talking about going as Sideshow Bob. I don't know if he will, but it would be hilarious. He really has the hair for it, too.

Halloween isn't my favourite holiday actually i was planning on staying home but then i found out that the this guy i like is going with the people I was invited to trick-or-treat with. I dont really have a costume though. I feel too old to trick-or-treat, but then again in that case I would have to be too old to climb trees, and that cannot be.

Halloween isn't my favorite holiday either. I am going to dress up though. I am going to be Goldberry(My mom has this really old dress that looks exactly like one Goldberry would wear). I am not going to go trick-or-treating. I am too old. (Katya- I am too old to climb trees too. unless of course there is a latter going up to it :) )
well hope you people have fun!

After taking my kids trick or treating, I will be doing a dramatic reading of the following poem by James Whitcomb Riley:
Little Orphant Annie's come to our house to stay,
An' wash the cups an' saucers up, an' brush the crumbs away,
An' shoo the chickens off the porch, an' dust the hearth an' sweep,
An' make the fire an' bake the bread, an' earn her board an' keep;
An' all us other childern, when the supper things is done,
We set around the kitchen fire an' have the mostest fun
A-list'nin' to the witch-tales 'at Annie tells about
An' the Gobble-uns 'at git you ef you DON'T WATCH OUT!
Onc't they was a little boy wouldn't say his prayers
So when he went to bed at night awaaayyy up stairs
His mammy heerd him holler. an' his daddy heerd him bawl
An' when they turn't the kivvers down, he wasn't there at all!
An' they seeked him in the rafter-room, an' cubby-hole an' press
An' seeked him up the chimbly-flue, an' ever'wheres I guess;
But all they ever found was thist his pants an' roundabout
An' the Gobble-uns'll git YOU ef you DON'T WATCH OUT!
An' one time a little girl 'ud allus laugh an' grin
An' make fun of ever'one, an' all her blood an' kin,
An' onc't, when they was company an' ole folks was there
She mocked 'em an' shocked 'em, an' said she didn't care!
An' thist as she kicked her heels, an' turn't to run an' hide
They was two great big Black Things a-standin' by her side
An' they snatched her through the ceilin' 'fore she knowed what she's about
An' the Gobble-uns'll git YOU ef you DON'T WATCH OUT!
An' Little Orphant Annie says when the blaze is blue
An' the lamp-wick sputters, an' the wind goes woo-oo,
An' you hear the crickets quit, an' the moon is gray,
An' the lightnin-bugs in dew is all squenched away,
You better mind yer parents and yer teachers fond an' dear
An' churish them 'at loves you, an' dry the orphant's tear,
An' help the pore an' needy ones 'at clusters all about,
Er the Gobble-uns'll git you ef you DON'T WATCH OUT!

My friend Tyson - I did his Halloween makeup. He worked at Rallys and wanted me to do it so he could go like that into work. He worked the drive-thru window that day handing out hamburgers and french fries. :)
i can't find the picture of my brother. I had run out of liquid latex - but it turned out cool anyway. I just gave him a bullet hole in the center of the forehead with blood dripping down along his eye socket and his nose.

No Ryan didn't mind it. I have my other side of my face normal. I only ever do half - that way I can hide the gruesome part from people that I think might get too scared. :D
I know Tyson got a bunch of comments - especially considering he was working at a fast food place. :)

mmmm...reeses peanut butter. my fave. Unfortunately for my sweet tooth, party in the penthouse was a big success. The guys below decked out their dorm like a club, and served fugde and rootbeer floats from the bar. I believe I already mentioned my dorm's scary movie night--apparently whoever went to rent the movies got mixed up and came back with Monsters Inc. instead of Alfred Hitchcock. Oh well, monsters--Halloween, there's a connection, right? Yeah, and the girls above us decked out their dorm like a casino, and had cardboard cutouts of the Ocean's Eleven cast (the new movie, *sigh* no Sinatra in sight). Yes, and another of the guy's dorms put together a walkway, and had a Zoolander theme. That has got to be the stupidest movie in the world.
All of this with no alcohol involved. :D

We did it too! No snow! At the last minute, my son decided to go as an "Army Guy". He has all this stuff in his toys, so he geared up in camo-stuff, hubby painted his face with his hunting make-up. Dean kept stopping, crouching, and firing off his automatic machine gun thing, shouting "SECURE THE AREA!" I thought I'd laugh myself to death! The ghost costume was particularly difficult with bifocals, The sheets kept pulling my glasses up so I was looking out of the reading part trying to see where the steps wear. I scared several little ones tho! Best candy always seems to be the popcorn! One house had several grown ups dressed like swingin goblins, they had this rockabilly spooky songs tape, I hated to leave, the music was so rockin! Fun... :)

Halloween's not too big a deal here although people do go to costume parties from time to time. For most people who live in the provinces, it's a chance to catch an early bus ride out of the city go party with their relatives (both the living and the dead ) the next day. The cemetaries all over the country are packed with people playing cards, sprucing up their relative's coffins, niches, mausoleums (sp?).
I personally stay at home and sleep. We go visit dad's grave 3 weeks later which is his birthday.

I had got dressed up and everything and was about to go to this massive halloween party in the town centre, they did one last year and it was great, but I was just to ill so I stayed in and watched LOTR! I had a pumpkin in the room to that my sister had done and it looked really weird/evil as her idea had gone wrong so I moved it outside as it was freaking me out to much!! Oh and i spent most of the night trying to get this black face paint off from around my eyes!!!

This was the first year in the last five or so that I didn't go Christmas carolling with friends. We're usually a big hit with people who spend the evening hiding in the bushes with a garden hose ;). But they must like us, because they never turn the water on us.

Well there was a good chance that HobbitChick88 would have gone trick or treating with me, but she got sick! We were gonna go to Indian Trace (this really big subdivision where lots of our friends live), and now I had nobody to go with. :( But I ended up taking my next door neighbor kids that I babysit up and down our street and then went with them to their aunt's house and took Melissa on their street (the other two stayed at their aunt's house and played). We came on home, and my dad took me to Indian Trace. It wasn't near as much fun by myself, so I quit after a couple of streets. But overall I still had a fun night. :) Oh, and I was Galadriel, BTW. I wasn't gonna go trick or treating since i'm getting kinda old but my cousin asked me and my sister to go with her and her one year old boy. He was in a frog outfit and he was soooo cute. My sister's boyfriend came too and after the little frog went down a street and went home me and my sister and her boyfriend went down a bunch more. so then we went and got some pizza and watched ET and then went home around 11 cause my sister's boyfriend had to be home. anyway that's what i did for halloween. I thought i was too old but my 20 year old brother and his wife went trick or treating and got two full pillowcases of candy.
