Who's your favourite character in The Hobbit? Besides Bilbo, that's much too obvious a choice. I think I like Dori.

I always liked Fili and Kili.

I choose Beorn, picturesque, wild and good, feasting on wild honey, fanagled into entertaining 14, enjoying their story, and then on the wild side, checking up on it as a bear. Straight out of the metamorphoses... and he also reminds me of Aslan.

The Eagal is cool.

Elrond is nifty.

Gollum is the man.

Gandalf is mystical.

and Beorn is shape shifty.

if this doesn't answer your question nothing will. I guess I'm just trying to say that I can't limit my answer to just one character.:D

I guess Gandalf and Gollum are also too obvious? :p If I can't choose them I suppose my favorite would have to be Thorin. Especially during his last moments in the book. That was very profound for me the first time I read it.

Gandalf.

I can't seem to decide between the Eagles (as a collective group) or Gandalf

decisions, decisions...

Go with the Eagles! Gandalf's been done before, I daresay.

hmmm.... I woud say... Thorin. He's a great character. (I tend to go for interesting rather than likeable characters - Thorin drove me up the wall half the time, but I find him interesting... sooo....)

I'd have to say Thorin is my favourite character

I'd have to say elrond. He's the coolest of the elves!! and there's so much history related to him. plus i love all elves to death. i wish there were more in the Hobbit.

Well my favorite parts in the books always have to do with Rivendell... So Elrond is my favorite overall. Gandalf, of course, but that is obvious... I didn't really like Thorin that much and Gollum was too slimy for me... I really liked Beorn a lot, though, and of the dwarves I liked dear Bombur even though he fell asleep and was too fat for anyone's good.

Smaug. I like what Smaug said above, "You have nice manners for a thief and a liar".
And Elrond.

Other than Gandalf it's got to be Beorn. He's a cool creature thing and I like how he took it when he was fooled into entertaining 14 people.

Beorn

My favourite of the dwarves is Balin. He was nice toward Bilbo, and together with Gandalf, he even visited the hobbit at the end of the book. That was a nice gesture.

Hmmm...I'd go with Balin. He always seemed to be the nicest to Bilbo.

Of all the Dwarves I liked Balin the best. He was the first to realize Bilbo's importance I think. I also thought Bard was very noble and a strong leader in a pinch.

Yep, if we can't choose Bilbo, it has to be Gandalf - the guy was just so in control...

It's Smaug - the nice and cute dragon... :D :D :D

Oh, and Gollum was cool too, but I liked him more in LOTR ;)

i didnt really like Thorin as he seemed to me a bit stck up and ignorant. Dori was kind to Bilbo.
Gandalf was pretty cool so was Bard.

Smaug. After all, he wasn't bothering anybody (recently) until these thieves came along to steal back what he had stolen from them.

I've always had a fondness for Bard the Bowman (and Slayer of Smaug) who later becomes Lord of the reconstructed Dale.

I'm sorry if it is too obvious, I simply like Bilbo the best! In The Hobbit that is...he's different in The Lord of the Rings...

I think he just epitomizes hobbits.

Bombadillo

Beorn all the way. Nobody gave him credit for the Battle of Five Armies. There were six, when Beorn showed up. Plus, he showed the company great hospitality, despite the anxiety he also caused.

Bilbo's my favourite character, though I agree Beorn doesn't get quite enough credit. He really helped the group tons, they would have been finished without his supplies, though Gandalf might have thought of something else.
