Today, the 23rd day of the tenth month from 6:02AM to 6:02PM is Mole Day! Chemestry Geeks, Rejoice!

Avagadro's number is defined as the number of Carbon 12 atoms in 12 grams of Carbon, or 6.022 x 10^23, or one mole.
This number is so immense that:
- It would take you approximately 19.1 trillion years to count to one mole, assuming you count one digit every second.
- one mole of grains of sand will cover the entire city of New York by 50 meters.
- if you had one mole of peas, you would have enough peas to cover every square inch of land on the planet by 3 feet.

We got to eat food and relax in chemistry today in celebration of mole day, anyone else celebrate?

I am horrified, not only by the prospect of having a mole of peas *gergh*, but that anyone would know what a mole was...I need to go...bash my head on the table...repeatedly

That is the worst thing I have ever heard come out of anyones mouth...Do you have a clue what LSD does to people? Do you have a clue about how many people die by direct result of taking drugs? Even if it wasn't meant seriously it's a serious thing to say.

I have good reason to be upset about, it is a rude thing to say. I know no one would be stupid enough to go out and get paper over you tellingthem to but it is not a laughing matter...at all...no siree...huh uh :rolleyes:

Ok...................................Back to the mole thing! Some people at my school made shirts that said Happy Mole Day and that sort of thing. I finally know what it means. Thanks GandalfTheWhite!

Coney and Aeryn - don't flame. I'm sure there are some drug threads around here where you can civilly discuss why drugs are bad. However, personal attacks won't be tolerated.

Well, that's interesting. No, I wasn't aware that Mole Day existed. The idea of the entire planet being covered with 3 feet of peas is scary! :eek:
Thanks for the chemistry lesson ... and the excellent reason to procrastinate a little less than a year from now. ;)

Yeah! A Mole Day! Pi day's March 14th, like LuthienTinuviel said; the real Pi Day was March 14, 1592, from 6:53 in the morning onwards. An approximate value of pi is:

Eish - I sorta skimmed from top to bottom (blurry eye syndrome today) and what I came up with is really strange - sorta figured that some mole somewhere is on acid or some scientist oke is making acid moles. Or is it the Police that have moles sniffing out acid?

Must be - I have these horrible flashbacks of being considered a chem expirement..............:( All good though, made me strong like Mother Russia (and don't screw with Mother Russia if you don't have a gun ;) )

eh heh - that could very well be it! I have a good nose for acid

but if you consider it, Mother Russia was a mole - thriving in the underground, until she got suckered into believing all that jazz about sunlight, surf & safari..........;)
