You said in the Noldorin Family trees topic that Angrod had a son Arothir who had Gil-Galad and Finduilas. Thats completely wrong if you don't mind me saying so.

Orodreth was Aegnor and angrod's older brother, second only to Finrod, ie. he took control of Nargothrond.

Orodreth's daughter was Finduilas but Gil-Galad was Fingon's son. The high-kingship in ME never passed to the house of Finarfin.

MAy I ask where you got your info from and where you got the name Arothir from.

I am interested in this subject and have done extensive research.

Nolendil can elaborate, but his sources come from the Histories of Middle-earth series. The peoples of Middle-earth, vol 12, War of the Jewels, vol 11 and Morgoth's Ring, vol 10. I believe all of these states many of the changes that were made in the geneologies in the published Silmarillion. Orodreth becomes the son of Angrod, and is the father of Finduilus and Gil-galad. Fingon has no wife or children. There is also evidence in Unfinished Tales where Galadriel names her brothers and omits Orodreth.

Thanks Sis!

Of course. I should have thought of HoME. I know about it but haven't read much (only got book2)

Why did Christopher Tolkien regret saying that Gil-Galad was son of Fingon?

It works well, and if it was changed to the House of Finarfin then the Highkingship would have to pass on again.

I think he did the right thing but I suppose if Gil-Galad was Finarfinish then it would explain why when Fingon died, Turgon received the crown and not Gil-Gald (metphorical crown).

Well, Christopher didn't regret it. It was actually the way his father meant it to be. Christopher made some mistakes in his editing of the published Silmarillion, and he takes the opportunity to correct those mistakes in the HoMe series.

I am sorry that I did not see your topic sooner, findorfin. I am grateful that Sister Golden Hair took care of it though. I need to make no ellaboration, SGH summed it up very well.

Ah, the gil-galad geneologies. Just got my poor head around this one. I have a family tree that I drew up:

Quite clarifying, BoP. Now if you could also include Fingon’s brother Argon, and Finarfin’s sisters…:D ;)

I forget about them. There's also Gil-galad's sister Finduilas. But the genealogy serves its purpose.
