A constant companion of the entwives, preferring them to her own species and enjoying learning about nature, music, and magic.

Umm, fellow Return of the Entwives people?? I was thinking this over and I realized that I don't know reallyanything about the ents. (oops :) ) I read TTT, but I don't really remember. Can someone give me a summary??

Let's see what I can drag up from my misty memory: Ents are basically walking trees. They reside (as far as I know) only in Fangorn, a wood at the border of Rohan. They are treeshepards and tend to the forest and the huorns, which are slighty more aggressive walking trees. (I never found out whether they were ents too or not) Ents are very patient and a bit slow unless they are 'roused'. They've got a lenghty language and their names tell their whole life (at least that's what I seem to remember). The three oldest are Treebeard (Fangorn), Leaflock and Skinbark. The older ents get the more treelike they become. They've got 7 fingers and toes (I think) and their eyes are like green pools. Their meeting is called an entmoot.

The entwives liked the fields and gardens better than the forest of the ents. So they left Fangorn and made gardens (I believe in the Brown Lands) After a while the ents went looking for them but found only their destroyed gardens. They've been looking for the entwives ever since. I believe Tolkien never specified just what had happened to the entwives. I think he thought that they had fled in the east, where now only a small remnant would be either hiding or serving as slaves under the dark lord. Where ever they are now, it meant the end of the ents as a race because without the entwives their would be no more entlings (ent-children) and their race would eventually die out.

ic: as i walked over to a elf named celebcu (who was in my opinion hasty) i came acrose a beutiful flower and thought of the entwives that left us many years ago, oh if only we could find them or if only they would come back to our dwelling house! i put the flower in my hand and holded it as carefully as possible, "hello celebcu fine day is it not?

OOC: Okay entss89, then I'll start somewhere in the East. I hope you don't mind if I drop the first person narrative, I can't concentrate that well with it.

Lothedril slipped silently through the night in Mordor. She looked up to the stars one more time before entering a low cave. She wondered whether somewhere to the West ents would look up at the same stars. Since she was one of the last entlings to be born, she had never been to Fangorn. But she remembered the flight of the entwives from their gardens long ago and the capture of herself and others in Mordor. Now it was different, she thought as she crawled into the cave as well as she was able. Now her slave-days were over. She had escaped the slavemines of Mordor and she could return home. Hiding in the cave she made herself as comfortable as possible for the remainder of the night, dreaming of the sweet sights and smells of Fangorn.

*The settlement of Avari she called home had been attacked by a horde of Orcs from Mordor. When she returned from hunting, all that remained of the beautiful village was piles of ashes and metal weapons. She had always known that this day would come, and somehow managed to keep her composure. Tears gathering in her eyes, she managed to find her way to her hiding place, gathering the food supplies and equipment she had left in preparation for this day. Putting her gear in her pack and wielding her sword and bow, she walked outwards, to the west, where her distant kindred were said to live.

She travelled for many days, barely sleeping and eating. Eventually, she made her way to a cave where she decided to sleep for the night. She built a small fire and curled up next to it, sleeping.*

((OOC: Earniel, this is the same cave that you're in... I figure Lothredil would smell the fire and be somewhat... angered... but that way we can meet :))

ic:I rushed through the forest searching hastily for my friends. I found it hard to look for them since they blended in so easily with the other more stupid trees.(the ones that are not ents.)
I finally found Lothedril and gave my hello rather quicker than I had planned. The ent looked at me and smiled pleasently giving his aged and wise face a light glow. Lothedril was walking among the flower patches thinking of what I guessed to be of the lost and missed entwives. A tear started to trickle down my cheek. I felt bad for my freinds and thier lost loves. I never really saw an entwife before but i still grieved for them and thier legendary beauty known by all ents.

Lothedril awoke in the deep end of the cave. She sniffed the air. Fire! Her eyes burned with anger at the thought of that age old enemy. No ent or entwife was ever fond of fire and Lothedril's stay in the slavemines of Mordor had only increased her hatred for it. She stopped herself short of rushing out and quenching that much loathed light. She should not be overhasty to leave her refuge, she reminded herself, she was still in perilous land. Orcs and the other dark creatures of Mordor took great pleasure in torturing run-away slaves and Lothedril had no wish to grand them that pleasure. Carefully, as well as her large body let her, she slipped as quietly as she could to the entrance of the cave.

When Lothedril heard no movement or noice she hazarded a peek. She saw only one person next to the fire and it didn't look much like an orc. As Lothedril stepped foreward to stamp out the fire, the figure suddenly rose, a sword in her hand. And Lothedril looked at a face of a kindred she had not seen again since she had been an entling. The elf before her looked frightened but determined to use the cutting steel she held in her hand if necesary. She did not seem to recognize Lothedril for what she was, which was not surprising for sooth now covered Lothedril's bark and her leafy hair had withered much, she hardly looked like an entwife of old. "Elf" spoke Lothedril, slowly, "You should know better than to light a fire in the presence of a much tortured entwife. Put it out."

as i talked to celebcu ( rather hasty but hey) he saw deep inside of how i felt, he started to get a little misty and i told him that some day the entwives will return so dont cry for us we are quite ok for the time, and we went to go drink from the fountain of plenty. but deep in side i told my self that i would probilly never see the day that the entwives come back!:(

*At the sound of movement, Kalome stood up, sword in hand. You could trust noone in these lands, not even those who sounded friendly... which this creature did not. It looked familiar... but yet, strange, almost tortured. When it spoke to her, she moved back in shock.*

"An entwife? The legends tell of your kindred, but we believed you long dead." *she moved to put the fire out, and in the darkness she turned to the entwife.*

"What brings you to these desolate, forsaken lands?"

To Lothedril the darkness felt like a relief. Although she still smelt the smoke of the dead fire, she was spared the sight of the cruel light.

"Force brought me here long ago, when the gardens of the entwives were destroyed and my kindred chased into the mercyless east. It is a long tale but one I cannot bear to tell to it's full length yet. "

"Then we are alike in our sorrow. Long ago, my ancestors made their way east after the fall of Beleriand, making this their home in the days of light. Our population dwindled, but yet we were happy and safe in the depths of the forest. But nowhere was safe from Saurons reach... and it is all gone... and now i search for my kindred to the west."

*suddenly she remembers her manners* "I apologise for my haste. I am Kalome Linuial, the sole surviving elf of Romentaur. By what name may I call you?"

"Hoom, then we are indeed alike in our sorrow and also in our hope to find our kindred in the west." Lothedril said with a faint smile. The presence of a friendly being after so long pleased the entwife and her green eyes glowed kindly.

"As for my name, it would take too long - even for an elf - to hear for it grows ever still. But I think the hastier form of Lothedril is more practical. I am pleased to meet you, Kalome Linuial of Romentaur."

ic: We drank from the cool clear rver and were refreahed from our dry throats(or roots). I looked at the solem ent who declared his disbeleif(sp) of the entwives being alive. "I believe they still dwell on Arda. " I said to the ent. "They may be still trying to find thier way back." (though not very comforting it still is a bit of hope. Right?) The ent looked at me with determenation that appeared out of the blue. "Maybe we can find them." Said the ent rising to his full hight. I cranned my neck to beable to see his wise aged face. "Maybe we can." I replied with a slight smile of the thought of adventure.

ic: as me and celebcu were talking me and him came to a frightening idea maybe we could find the entwives maybe they still exsits. i told celebcu that i would summon a disscusion at the entmoot. he became very happy so i told him that he would be able to come but not to make a big fuss over it because we useally dont let differant creatures besides ents in the entmoot. i told him not to utter any words about this intill i passed this between treebeard the oldist ent alive. he agried and left for a little while on some business.

ic: I was travelling, I didn't know where. Somewhere in ME, I supposed.

After few weeks, I came into a wood. I felt it was a happy, joyful wood. I got in it, and went to find something eatable. When I was looking for food, I mistakely found myself citing a talking tree.

ic: I left trasmere to his mooting and gathering. I wanted to join but knew the ents did not like other creatures involved in the mooting. I explored the woods for younger ents to chat with. Instead I found my self face to face with another elf.

Meanwhile back in Mordor:

"It has been long since I ever looked at a different land than the black ashwastes of Mordor. And time stands still for no entwife, the western lands will have changed much. I accept all help you can give me as well as I will give all help I can give you, Kalome. But tell me, have you heard of the forest of Fangorn? Do the ents still dwell there?"

"I do not know for sure. However, there was an old tale in our records that once, 250 years ago, one of us went travelling into the west to regain contact with our kin. He never met the elves, but he was travelling through a distant wood when he ran into a tree that talked. He ran back here, of course, and when he told us his story we thought he had imagined it. He did like his mushrooms, and some very strange varieties...

But nevertheless, our records speak of a meeting with a talking tree in a distant forest which was most likely fangorn. there is still hope for you and your kin to reunite.

Anyway, ic: I saw a takling tree, who talked to an elf, I don't know what age. Not a kid, anyway. Then, the elf left the talking tree who walked towards a circle of rocks.

I went to talk with the elf, who looked nore friendly then the talking tree. I asked him: "What's your name, elf?" he said back: "my name is Celebcu (Kelebku?). what's your name and what are you doing in Fangorn?". I had a feeling he wanted me to get out of The wood, as fast as I can. "my name is Rafagost, and I'm just travelling arround."

OOC: I believe Tolkien wrote somewhere that the entwives fled into the east after Sauron burned their lands. Some may still abide there, perhaps even as slaves. My character Lothedril just escaped from the mines in Mordor.

ic: The elf demanded for my name and why I was present in the Fangorn forest. I looked at the elf with a bit of suspescion. What did this elf have the right to demand such things of me?

I told her or he my name and answered this is my home and the home to my best friends. I beleive you should explain your presents here as well.

Lothedril smiled a little. "An entertaining story, Kalome. And although I shouldn't be overhasty, it does give me hope. Yet 250 years is long and we shall have to see for ourselves how much of it still remains today, for my kindred as well as yours. Now let us rest a while until the night is passed. Dawn is a more pleasant time to travel and the road ahead of us is still long."

I (occ: already) (ic:) explained to her/him what am I doing. The elf told me to get out of the wood, because things are going on and he/she don't want me to get hurt. I said "fine" and walked towards the way she/he said the exit of the wood.

I waited the elf would go, and then followed her/him to a deeper forest.

ic: The elf walked towards a building (actually a line of stones), where I think there were lots of talking creatures. I got closer, and saw the trees. I realized they are ents-though I thought the ents died already. I thought they were bad, so I tried to burn them with a spell I learnd in Lorien. The problam is that I got confused and mistakely tried to wash them down to the river..... It didn't work, but they were angry. At least, looked angry to me. The elf stared at me strangely.

ic: As I walked towards the entmoot a river of water splashedpast me knoking me to the ground and angering the ents. I looked behind me to see the source of the river flow and saw the strange elf staring at us. I looked at her with a look of "What the sugar muffins where you thinking of?"
The elf seemed to have gotten the message and T once appologized looking suspeciously at the now glaring ents.

occ: I'm a male in this story too.

ic: I started to apologize, though the ents didn't seem very disturbed at the moment. The elf stared at me, angrily. The ents continue their chat after a coule of minuts and I had a chance to talk to the elf. "sorry" I said quickly. He looked at me and said: "what are you doing here?!?". He suprised me, but I said: "you really expected me to go out of this wood because you said so?" He was very mad, but decided to yell at me later. He went to talk with the ents.

Smiling at her new companion, Kalome added "Who knows what the dawn will bring? New hope, perhaps, and a chance of a better future." Then she lay down on the floor of the cave and soon drifted off into dreams of her family and the old days...

ooc: I never said you had to leave the forest. or at least don't remember saying that.

ic: I told the ents that the elf ment no harm and did not know that we were good. The ents fergave him quickly. I smiled. I joined them even though they did not alowe other speceices(sp) to join the moot. I told the elf that I would meet him near the fangorn river and to not move from that spot in till I got there. He agreed. Or so I thought.

ic: as a reguler elf, I agreed to wait the elf, and not to move from the spot he sent me to. But of course, there are a very big difference between say something, and do someting. I went after an ent (run after it). It didn't know i'm there.

as celebcu came to the moot i was qiuet happy to see him! i went to celebcu and told him that i have most of the ents agreeing with me but a couple of the younger ents are not sure.
me and the young elf went to go talk under a beutiful fall, i told him he would be of much help if he was to come, and it would be a honor. he gave me a nice slow smile and seemed very happy to be excepted into the entmoot!( this is qieut queer:p ) for once when we were talking it seemed as though i was talking to one of my own kindred! i told celebcu if everything went according to plan then we should be leaving very soon, he seemed to be very arroused and well rather hasty. i understood how the elf felt so i showed no disrespect for this creature.

Before dawn Lothedril slipped out of the cave to watch the sun rise. It was an alien sight to her and she regreted that much but she vowed to enjoy every other sunrise from then on. Behind her she heard the elf stir in the cave. No doubt Kalome had heard Lothedril leave the cave. The entwife turned to greet her newfound companion. "Morning, Kalome Linuial. The sun has risen."

*Hearing a sound, Kalome wokes from her sleep to see Lothedril watching the sunrise. The sight of the Ent in light was strange to her, but she smiled and came to join her.*

That it has, my friend, and with it it brings a new day and new hope. *She turns and looks in the other direction, toward the west* Over there, in the distance, that is where we will find our kin.

"Hoom, I hope so." said Lothedril softly as she looked westward. She then turned and gave Kalome a sad smile. "Come my friend," she said, "we must leave now. During the day no orc or dark creature can hinder us, therefore it is important we use what light we have to place as much distance as we can between us and these dark lands."

"You are right." Kalome quickly gathers her pack and sets off after her new companion. However, she soon finds herself unable to keep the pace of even such a worn out and weary Entwife as Lothedril. She stops and thinks to herself.. "Now, how can i keep up with her? I'll need a horse... but where would i find one in these foul lands?"

As she is standing and thinking, she hears a scared neighing from the thicket to her left. Quietly gazing through, she sees a chestnut mare surrounded by a pack of wolves. Almost without thinking, she draws her bow and shoots a couple of the leaders, scaring them away.

Walking up to the beautiful mare, she examines her. She looks in extremely good condition, and well bred... almost like the horses of the legendary Rohirrim. She gently comforts the scared horse, talking to her in her own language. then, she leaps onto the back and gallops after Lothedril.

"Sorry about that, I needed to find a way to keep up with you. I think I'll call her Fearuin."

Fimbren and Treebeard were at Treebeards ent house and Fimbren...attentive and patient elf that he was, was dozing off through one of Treebeards loooooong speches.

"The apology should have been mine, Kalome Linuial." replied Lothedril. "My wish to rejoin my kindred made me overhasty so that I forgot you would not be able to keep up with me. How unentish of me. Hoom.... my captivity in Mordor changed me more than I would have liked." A sad look passed over the scarred face of the entwife. "Too much I fear..."

Fearuin softly pressed her nose against Lothedril's bark, waking her up from her reverie. Lothedril carefully stroked the mare's nose. "A lucky find. Such horses are rare. Take good care of her, Kalome. She will be a great aid."
