So let me get this straight Feanor dies and everyone just gives up on his oath. Whats with that. I noticed in one of the chapters it says that elves natuarlly live forever so why are they all dying. Is Shelob Ungoliants offspring this book leaves out so many loose end

"Immortal were the Elves and their wisdom waxed from age to age, and niether sickness nor pestilence brought death to them, but they were of the stuff of earth and could be destroyed"
Feanor's sons were bound to their oath to the end.

The elves were immortal in the sense that they were not troubled by illness and didn't grow old, but they could be slain, and also they could die from grief.
