(Pre-Post note: I WAS BADGER but I have this universal accound and can't remember my original password and such)

I loved Lord of the Rings (Although admittedly never finished it <img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/images/emoticons/embarassed.gif ALT=":o"> ) but it was a huge story with a vast visual style. I'm not fully confident that this movie can give the same impact as the book.

I'm sorry if this has been brought up before (Notice I'm a newbie :) ) but is there any information out there that will make me think that this movie has the goods to deliver?

Hi BADGER, or whatever you're going by :) :p

I don't know if you've seen the old animated version, but that definitely fell short. However, I really think that the director of the upcoming version, Peter Jackson, can capture the excitement and style of the books. I don't follow the movie news too closely, but I have seen some pictures of the set and they look pretty good.

Obviously he's going to edit the story in ways that many fans will hate (the omission of Tom Bombadil, for example, or the increased emphasis on female characters such as Arwen and Eowyn), but overall things look good. It's a huge task, but they have a full production crew and a special effects company (WETA) at their disposal.

I'll allow someone who's following production more closely to elaborate :)

Quite frankly I think no one can do the books justice, no matter how good a filmmaker they are. However, I think PJ will come close.
