I found something interesting on Ian McKellan's (Gandalf) home page.....that Ethan Hawke is listed as playing Faramir (http://www.mckellen.com/cinema/lotr/credits.htm). I thought though that EH wasn't confirmed yet for any role.

When will we ever get a complete and confirmed cast list?!!
Sorry, patience hasn't ever been one of my best attributes. :P

About Weaving and Otto - they have been confirmed. Link pending... I think I read this at TOR but I don't remember...

And still nothing yet about Kevin Sorbo as Tom Bombadil?!
*Sigh*
I'm disapointed.

Don't scare me like that! :)

Bernard Hill might be Denethor. What makes me think this is that he was the convict in the recent movie of Great Expectations, sort of a father figure to the main character who was played by Ethan Hawke (Faramir). Not a very well-based argument, but it's interesting. :)

That guy from the Matrix as Elrond? Yuck

Come on, he'll be great! Although there are better ones out there... my only problem with him is that he's too young to be Elrond. Why don't they bring Alec Guinness back out of retirement or something?

Oh, and I'm still pushing Dustin Hoffman for Denethor, depite his height.

Alec Guinness would never agree to be part of a big, destined-to-be-popular film again. For no apparent reason he shuns his past as Obi-Wan and is generally a jerk about it, so I've heard :p

Sir Alec disliked a lot of things about STAR WARS, including the dialogue (which he felt was banal), but the one experience he most often seems to refer to is when he met a boy whose mother told him her son had seen the original movie 100 times. Sir Alec felt that was just way too many times, and he said so (rather bluntly).

Yeah...

IMO, Guinness is the best actor in ANY of the Star Wars films, but even that isn't his finest work. He did better in The Bridge on the River Kwai and Doctor Zhivago and Lawrence of Arabia. (Or was it just David Lean's directing that made the difference?)

Funnny how Obi-Wan's always complain ;)

Bridge on the River Kwai is one of the best movies ever, if you wanna see him at his best see that. I don't think he'd do LOTR, for all the already mentioned reasons. I also think Dustin Hoffman, though one of my favorite actors, is just wrong for Denathor. He would be good as something though, I actually think if they have someone playing Sauron he might be good.

Dustin Hoffman: a good Bilbo.
And no special effects... :p

Ian Holm... an even better Bilbo. :b

For those not frequenting theonering.net:

Bernard Hill is now officially Theoden. So now nobody knows who Kevin Conway will be. Also, Marton Csokas is Celeborn, and Ethan Hawke (who was going to be Faramir) is gone.

Although Ethan Hawke is a noble knight and fit for fine drama-entry roles as in Gatica and Great Expectations, I must conclude that with his removal..

the cast is now at 'Ludicrous Speed'.

I am personally finding it hard to believe that something this cool is happening in my lifetime.
