If a woman hits a man does the man have a right to strike back?

not hit them back but mild force is ok. Eg grabbing there hands and setting them down.
Mind you i know some ladies you could put up a pretty good fight against the hardest of men

Well, he certainly has the "right" to. Especially if she's hurting him. A token slap as an expression of insult (to a lady's honor) is no cause for retaliation. It's up to the man, a very strong man probably wouldn't want to hit a woman (unless she was causing him bodily harm!), or a man raised "old style".

IMO, no one has a right to strike back. Whether you're a man or a woman or your attacker is a man or a woman, is irrelevant. If you're hit just once and you're certain you're not going to get hit again, you should not strike back.
Everyone has a right to defend themselves though. If you think there will be more blows delivered it is necessary to fight back.

i personally have not struck a woman for years and that was my sister so it dont really count :D.
I was raised to respect women and im a big lad and if i did retaliate against a woman i would win easily therefore its something i will not do.

Well there are physically strong women around, what would you do if one of them should attack you? You might not be able to hold her back. Even if you're big she might be a good fight.

A man should only slap back if in danger of more hits but otherwise the woman probably had a good reason, but iif they did it just to hurt you you could slap back if it looked like they were going to get hit again.

For me I'd say it depends on her motivations. For example, if she hits me repeatedly because she knows that I would never retalliate, and she thinks that her "show" of physical control over me is meant to indicate her superiority (which turns it from physical to emotional), I might surprise her...
But, ofcourse, I am pretty much the most non-aggressive guy around. So that previous paragraph is pretty much a hypothetical.
But not in bed. That is where I get.....twisted.
Oh, and I've never hit anyone. Except my brother. But that was about ten years ago.
Well, you could argue for either side with good logic. It depends on the circumstances.

Yeah, it depends why. Men have a right to fight back, but the woman has to be actually hurting them.

I figure if I tried hard enough, I could probably seriously hurt somebody. Just because I'm of the sex with less muscle doesn't mean my punches won't hurt.

What silliness is this?
What do you think?
If a someone hits a person, does that person have the right to strike back?
In my world, people have a right to defend themselves. However, they do not have the right to hit people just because they lost their temper, whatever that it is that led to that. Before anyone tries to take advantage of the ambiguity in that statement, I will say that the difference is generally quite clear. People who have lost their temper behave in quite a distinct and recognizable way.
Some people seem to live in another world where the code of conduct is a bit different. But there is still no need to throw gender into the equation. As you can see, the best answer is the one that works the same way no matter which way the genders are distributed in the question.

Recently, I have been teaching in a bad area of Oakland and the boys will sometimes hit (punch) a girl without second thought if provoked.

Wow AE, nice to see you here again!
A proportionate response in all cases, I think.
Unless it's done real damage, I've found that responding to a punch with a dismissive laugh makes the other person think long and hard about their next course of action. Doesn't help much if you've been floored, admittedly.

Sums up my thoughts on this.
