Yeah. Use condoms in future. Or better yet, get a vasectomy. Oh, and you may as well split up with your girlfriend now. Save a lot of pain later on.

Have the child adopted by an eccentric rich relative who owns a magic ring and who's best friend is an old man who wears a grey cloak whith pointy hat and staff accessories.
It might not be an easy life, but your child will thank you for it;)
Congrat's Sween.........you're in for a very interesting 20 yrs or so:D

When you show him/her Star Wars, are you going to show him/her the original trilogy first (4,5,6,1,2,3) or the prequels first? (1,2,3,4,5,6)?

Congratulations Sween. You will have to reavaluate your goals and all that with a child coming.
I won't rain on your parade like BoP though. :) I always find it strange though congratulating people on having children (or getting someone pregnant) - as if it's something difficult. :D

For some people it is difficult. I know many couples who have tried several years without success.
But trying to get pregnant, or practicing for trying to get pregnant :D is quite enjoyable. :D

For the vast majority of people though - it's not that hard to accomplish though.
Well we all know from previous posts that Sween was having a great time and he has the tapes to show his kids. :D I can just picture it - him sitting with his child and showing them the second of conception :D- "See right there - that was you being conceived. Isn't that cool?" :)

Well, I dunno. Chances are, the brat will pick up on some... odd... habits.
If I didn't say it before, I'll say it now: congrats on being stupid enough to knock your GF up. Oh, and children aren't toys. Although sometimes, it's suitable to lock them away in the toy cupboard... at least, that's what MY mother did.

Sween, if you really want serious advice, here's some:
Take, no claim your part of the responsibility to take care of the child. Spend time with your child now and then, without your girlfiend. Women tend to push men away when it comes to child care (generally speaking, your gf may not be like that). You will build relationship from the very beginning and be rewarded with love and trust when your baby grows up. :)

Congradulations Sween! I have NO idea how to say stuff like this in elvish but oh well. Congrats anyway.
You might want to go to some parenting classes and some pregnancy classes. That'll help. I've heard some REALLY weird stories about ladies who ate dirt and ice cream with pickles during pregnancy, plus there are the mood swings and stuff.
I dont know alot about this but my big brother calls my mom alot about HIS girlfriends pregnancy. He's worried about her and stuff and I over hear Moms advice and things on the phone and I commit them to memory so I can remember them when I have MY first baby.
Good Luck, you'll need it.

My advice is to marry your girlfriend and to commit to putting the needs and happiness of others before your own (in other words, compromise). Through this you will find joy. When you decide to raise a child, doing these things will help towards the healthy development of that child. When the child develops healthily, it is much easier on you in the long run. Oh, and read a good parenting book so you know generally what you're doing, but follow your instincts as well.

Well, my second choice advice if he didn't want to get married was to put the baby up for adoption, but I didn't want to be a killjoy, and since he said he wanted a baby, I went for the marriage advice route.
And I also recommend his girlfriend get an epidural, speaking of painkillers. :)
edit: I'm not sure what happened, but BoP's original quote wasn't "Sh!" That's really strange.

09-10-2002, 04:55 PM
I can't take codine because it's effects don't make me happy. I feel all numb and almost like I've left my body, and I have past issues with feeling numb that make it an incredibly unpleasant experience. I kind of feel like I don't have control over my body or thoughts, and then my thoughts run away from me and weird things happen. No, I don't like codine.

Whew! There's some weird advice here! When's the wedding? It seems ever since you "knocked your girlfriend up", you've started a virtual hit on BoP......This doesn't speak well for your character Sween!! Do you have a job? How will you pay for all the pre-natal visits and delivery? Garage sales are an excellent way to get everything for the baby (except diapers! :) ) cheap. Anyway, if you decide to take "being a daddy" seriously (and I hope you do!!) kiss your childhood goodbye..

wedding? who mentioned a wedding? Yeah ive got a job i work for my dad doing some free lance work and advising. i also do quite a lot of hospitality for his clients im in charge of showing them a good time etc.
Im am quite loaded acctually so moneys not such a problem. We dont seem to get gbarage sales round here people dont go in for them. My cousin has just had a baby so ill nick a load of stuff of him.
Nothing wrong with a bit of flirting :D

Great! You've got money! That's the biggest problem for most young couples. Yes, use your cousin's stuff, it's so silly to buy all those expensive baby gadgets list price. Little Sweeno will out grow them in no time at all! You don't want to get married!!?? Hmmm, I'd have to say your girlfriend is the one who screwed up here! ;). I'll say it again!! Good luck to you!

So, how does that go along with your previous statement? Are you recuperating from previous loser-dom or was that just a flippant remark? Either way, you still have my best wishes (as opposed to my worst wishes... let's not venture into that, thank you).
Arathorn, I don't think there is such a badge... although pioneering would be close. You have to learn to tie all kinds of knots and know what they're used for... although the only knot I've ever really needed to know is that which keeps my shoes on my feet. Even there, I could just use duct tape.
A discussion of the benefits of two half-hitches compared to the base nature of the average square knot does sound like an enthralling conversation topic, doesn't it?
The greatest scout meeting I ever attended was when I pantsed a fellow next to me. Of course, I knew him, and he realized it was all in good fun... about half a year later.

Yoinks! I go away for a few weeks and I come back and the drunken Sween is going to be a father? Now that I think about it those two things are compatible.
Congratulations, good luck, and welcome to the club. When you get close to the delivery date and/or know the sex, you should start a name thread.
Advise? Love your kid better than yourself. You might as well get married. You can get a divorce but you can't become unparented, and mom's have a way of letting you know she (therefore you) would be happier married.
Also, check out Lou Reed's "Beginning of a Great Adventure" on "New York"... very funny.

Its due next mouth  and its sudenally dawned upon me i know nothing about been a father. I mean me with a kid im drunk most of the time and the rest of the time im been stupid.
How the hell do you cope does a kinda peternal instinct kick in wherte you learn how to change a nappie without been sick even at the thought of it and understand what burping is.
what about when it grows up what do i do it may end up like me :( i really dont want that. i guess this is also end of my youth completally even though ive seen that comming a long way time to get serious i guess :(

If you don't want it to grow up and be like you, then try to change so you'll be someone you'd want your kid to be like.
Don't know if any peternal insticts kick in. Although yesterday i was watching a TV show, and there was a girl on there about to have a baby but she didn't know anything about babies or what to do,so she was really worried and wanted her mom to help her out. Anyway my mom said something like "that's the same way i was." But she's did a pretty good job raising 5 kids so maybe a peternal instinct does kick in.
Good luck with it though!:)

Hi Sween, congratulations with your engagement as well as the soon-to-be birth of your baby, hope you and Vita (it is Vita isn't it?) are extremely happy.
Don't worry about any paternal instincts, they sort themselves out once the young one is there. No amount of mental prep could ever prepare you for the actual event, it's quite scary but at the same time the best thing ever. You will be amazed how such a small being could so totally control you with their cries, laughter & even poopy nappies.
It's a very daunting prospect, 'cos you always wonder if you're doing the right thing (I doubt if that ever goes away, no matter how old you get or how many kids you have). But rest assured that your best will always be enough for your kids.
When the kid is old enough you can take him / her along to the pub - no better place to learn about the facts of life ;)

Yeah, Just try to sober up and the rest will just happen. (Hangovers, no matter how small, do not go well with babies, ugh! )
Think of your new baby as your golden opportunity to "get it together" personally. You now have an excuse to stay home, watch the tube, read, take naps and eat good food. If your wife decides she wants to get back into shape, you both can incorporate exercise (another healthy and "fun" good habit) into the "new" routine! Follow your wife's lead, she is the one who is going to go through some MAJOR changes, as soon as the baby comes. Don't let a few "freak outs" scare you.
Going from a child (you and her) to a parent so quickly will be a little strange, but it will happen. (everyone who has a child goes through it, as you said yourself, way back when, You'll be fine!) Each mother has her own style, I am one to not let babies cry. If they cry, I pick them up and rock them. Is she going to nurse the baby? This is an important decision. If she is, get one of those "Rocker/glider chairs. They are great for comfortable rocking, feeding and easing babies (and mommies) back to sleep.
Please, get some newborn pacifiers. If YOU don't know what you're doing, ;) the baby will at least know how to sooth itself by sucking on a pacifier (while mom or dad sits in the glider, rocking it and loving it! )
The first six weeks, just give it up! The baby will want to eat and sleep constantly (not at the same time you do, just go with the baby and relax!) If she is nursing, just tell her to unbutton her shirt and leave it that way! ;) If you are doing bottles, I'm not sure how that works. You'll soon be changing enough diapers to get the hang of it, try not to let the baby get diaper rash! I always tried to get a change in before feeding and rocking, as a newborn infant usually falls alseep during the feed/rock (yea! :) ) and you don't want to worry about waking him back up to change his diaper after you finally get him to sleep! Just go with the flow, and quit drinking! PM me if you want more boring advice. Cheers, an orange juice to you! ;)

Hey Sween, there's a pint of something cold to help ya through the early days:D
http://members.iinet.net.au/~vroncol/Smiley_gifs/Smileys2/BEER3.gif
Seriously tho'.....yer'll miss the pub, but it'll be worth it;)
Hmm....my one peice of advice?
Buy flowers.........buy 3 bunches of flowers every week.
One bunch for the future Mrs Sween (because her hormones will be flying around like a Mr Sween in the pub during Happy Hour).
And a bunch each for you Mum and future Mum-in-law (because when Sween jnr starts teething you're gonna need a babysitter, if only for the chance for you and Mrs Sween to get some sleep).
As for the rest.....relax, talk to people who are in the know (Like Lizra and others here, yer mum and dad will be a vital source of info as well).

Yes, The mothers, (soon to be grandmothers) will become VERY important to your wife. (Someone I can leave the baby with and not worry) Start "buttering them up" now! ;)

I'm so excited for you! I think you'll do a good job because the fact that you're worried means you actually care, which is the most important thing. My advice is Don't Give Up! It will be very hard at first, and you'll wonder why you shouldn't just get in the car, drive to the airport and take the next plane to Fiji (not that I ever had any thoughts like that:rolleyes: ). But think of it as a long-term challenge. Your own personal fellowship, as it were.:) But instead of throwing an evil ring into a fiery pit, your task is to raise a happy, healthy, well-rounded individual that will be kind to others. The way you accomplish this is not important -- that's where the instinct comes in -- just follow your heart, and keep communicating w/ Vita. Moms do have some instincts as far as child-rearing goes, but don't be afraid to do things your own way. Dads are VERY important!!!!x9999 Discipline as calmly as you can (when the child is older).
Oh, and expect NO sleep for the first month. I'm not exaggerating. Take up either mother's offer of free babysitting, you will have a new appreciation for them both when you get to leave the baby with someone you trust completely and have a break. Enjoy the wild ride!

Glad you all like the name we spent a long time before the birth thinking of one and couldnt come up with anything but we kinda had Amy in mind cos we couldnt think of anyone we have ever met called Amy we didnt like and the middle name wasnt gonna be there because we didnt really believe in them (mines oliver what was that mother of mine thinking) but when she was born she had such rosey red cheacks we dicided rose should be in there as well.

Too bad she didn't like breast feeding (for your sake!) ;) It seems like the first step to the "incredible love", is the realization of how helpless they are, and that the are depending on you to help them! Precious sweet little baby! It's so interesting how they are born with the ability to really only use their mouth muscles (sucking) and gradually acqiure the other bits slowly. (The little fist grabbing is some kind of reflex, they say) Eyes will gradually get used more, then smiling, and holding the head up, then baby actually picks something up, rolls over, sits up, crawls, and walks. Each little milestone is watched and waited for by the excited, eager parents. What fun! I'm jealous! How are the grandmas? (Give me that baby! grandma's favorite words!)

A baby book is a book with places in it to record every little first thing imaginable that a baby dose, and it also has a place to pute the birth sertifacite (sp?), footprints, letters from people saying congradulations, pictures, family trees and a whole bunch of other stuff. My baby book is a Peter Rabit one, and is blue even though I'm a girl so it should be pink (I'll geuss my mom did the colors Laura Ingles Wilder stile). I look at mine every ones in a while, and I love to be able to go back and check out the time that I was born (to the minute) how much I weid and stuff like that. You HAVE to get one for your baby, because even though you may be able to remember everything now, you may not remember it later, and Amy will probally want to know. It's just as important as my baby pictures are to me, it's really special and I'll ceep it forever.:)
