If you were offered a million USD tax free to either stay in your state ( or equivalent of) forever or the same deal but stay out of your country forever which would you choose?

I'd take the latter.

My first thought was definately to stay in my country. I'm very in love with Norway! But then I had second thoughts. I like travelling, and there's a lot of places in the world I would like to visit but haven't come around to do yet. Still, never be able to come back....this is difficult! But probably, I would choose to stay...I think .... for the moment.... :)

The cash would be very tempting......

but I could never leave Englands fair shores forever..........besides, a million dollars isn't that much money (relatively speaking)............make it ten mil and I might just slip a few clothes into my suitcase;)

Oh, if status quo is an option, that is waving goodbye to money and be free to go wherever I want, I most certainly would have chosen that.

Freedom is vital. :)

1 mill US is about 2.2 mill NZ. I'd go. I'm trying to get out anyway. :D

I'd stay. I was planning on doing it anyway! Only place I might like to visit is Canada. I don't care for traveling AT ALL! :)

I'd go, wasn't particularly planning on staying anyway.

I'd be gone so fast you'd smell the rubber burn...
I've had an ongoing fantasy about living a life where all my possessions fit in one carry on bag: I would stay in furnished apts/hotels and not have to worry about paying property taxes, mortgage, prop insurance, vehicle sticker for the car, auto ins, water-gas-elec bill, all the petty complications that keep you from living a life! I would travel the world -- and since I have no interest in 4 star ANYTHING, I could live on very little... Would I miss the US? No. Would I miss the Midwest? Definitely NOT!

My current job is like that. Get some kind of ESL certification and travel the world. I've been doing it for a few years.

Sounds great, if it weren't for the fact that I am a caregiver for an aging parent (in addition to working one full time job, one part time job, and I am an active volunteer for a local arts organization). Not that I don't love my life -- I'm extremely fortunate, but it is so filled with responsibilities that my daydreams are all about running away. Still, I do envy you, and if I had to do it all over again...

I'd stay, as long as I could have the whole of England to live in, not just my little area, which is one of the ugliest parts.

I could live in the states for that kind of money. It would have to be some place that has a decent fall and winter (lots of snow). I like my change of seasons. I'm not interested in overseas travelling. ( Well, maybe New Zealand, but that's another story)

Elvet I guess for you it would mean that you are stuck in Ontario for ever or out of Canada forever. That's about 563 million in Canadian :p

I suppose I could find enough to do in Onario forever, but I'd still rather go to the states, if I couldn't stay in Canada. Only $563 million CDN, eh?

HMM...could I go back to visit at all? Because as much as I want to leave WI someday, I would miss it after a while being gone. I guess my home is my Shire and I'm a Took or something. They still love their home, but they do want to get away sometimes. If I had to get out of my state forever, then I wouldn't take any money. (I don't want to trapped in my state, either.) But if I could visit every year or so...YES.

I would definitely stay in my state. Idaho rules! And there's lots of cool thing to do too.

I would choose to stay in state cause I wouldn't want to not be able to come back at all.
