Elf Girl

I need Tolkien help immediately. The problem is, my obbsesion is dwindling, by now on the point of fading out completely. As people have no doubt noticed, I visit Entmoot only in two threads now. I am no longer a reguler. Can anyone help me find some ways to wrest my interest back to Tolkien? I really don't want this to happen... :( :( :(

i went through the same thing!
it's ok. sometimes its better to take a step back from your obsession, try something else for a while, have a change of scenery and then come back all nice and refreshed.
although if you really don't want a change, just wait a while till the new dvd comes out. i'm sure that will re-light your interest and will give the people of entmoot a lot more to talk about.

Yeah, tell me about it. I haven't read LotR in over a year, and I haven't been a regular in the Tolkien forums since, oh, about 2000 :o.

Ack!!!! Burn Out?........:) To much of a good thing? I actually think all this Tolkien posting is twisting my inner elf, but I enjoy it at the same time. I just keep going on the "If it feels good, do it" theory. I would honestly say, take a break, Elf Girl, Then view the new movie and see if you get charged up again. :)

I've downloaded all the trailers and play them over and over again. It keeps me going. But if your really that burnt out, take a break. When you get back, you'll love it even more.

Have you got the Soundtrack?

Have you read the Silmarillion and the Unfinished Tales and the History of Middle- Earth?
Or some of the studies of Tolkien that have come out?(see Amazon.com)

Have you memorized whichever poem you like best?

Have you begun studying Sindarin or Quenya, so you can say bye to your friends with "Namarie?"

Have you got the flute music to the soundtrack and can you play it?

(I haven't -- but I'm working on it.)

Have you figured out what effect seeing (or reading) LotR has had on your behavior, patterns of thought, morals, or goals in life?

If not, you've barely started.

Entlover, that's really scary...I've done all those things except for the flute, too! Oh well...

Elf Girl, it's okay. Incessant obsessions hurt your brain. Just take a break if you have to, read another book or two if you absolutely must. You'll come back to Tolkien eventually, I bet. If that isn't what you want to do, read the book again! But not the whole thing, just the most exciting parts. It will probably refresh your interests.

Partly.

Have you memorized whichever poem you like best?

Yes.

Have you begun studying Sindarin or Quenya, so you can say bye to your friends with "Namarie?"

Yes. (I show no aptitude, though)

Have you got the flute music to the soundtrack and can you play it?

No, but I will soon.

YESYESYESYESYESYESYESYESYESYESYESYES!!!!!!!!!!!!

Maybe if I attempt the Elven Rings with my newly-given jewlers tools, I can meld a new obbsesion with an old one. Hmmm... *rushes down to her makshift workshop*

Later: The Elven Rings are beyond me. Maybe the leaf pins?

Later: I can't enamel, but I suppose a plain sterling leaf pin will be all right. :) ;)

What about writing a non-pop song about Tolkiens work.

hmmmm.......reading a good Tolkien biography helped refresh the old middle-earth nodes for me..................reading Tokiens "real life" struggles helped me realise wot a piece of work LOR is.....also knowing what he was doing while writing section of the book gave me a new insight into how he gave certain chatpters their unique atmosphere.

Here's somethin' that might work. Read "The Return of the Shadow" by Christopher Tolkien and BELIEVE me you will GLADLY return to John Ronald Reul Tolkien, then read the Treason of Isengard. I haven't read that but from what ROTS showed of the rough draft it will be as entertaining and funny as the first.
Come Back soon Mellon,

hmmmmmmmmmm, one day i woke up and desided to change every thing tokien on my computer, and in a couple days i got tired of not stirring at sam soooooooooo.... maybe if you stop thinking about it for a couple of days and see some other movies and read some other books then it will work! maybe you can talk and think about other things allso.

as for me, i did that for a couple of days, and then i was sick of NOT reading/thinking/looking/talking about it and started reading it agian!

i understand what you mean perfectly well, Elf Girl...if you go onto something else and come back you will probably appreciate it more. and you can listen to the soundrack, and read tolkien biographies, i recommend THE LETTERS OF TOLKIEN edited by Humphrey Carpenter and christopher Tolkien.

I'm suffering from the same thing right now. Eep for us all. I'll get back into it when the special DVD addition is released.

Try reading one of Tolkien's non-Middle Earth books. It will give you a break from LotR and stuff, but you'll still be into Tolkien.

That isn't such a bad tip at all. I'm off to the library soon then.

Think like if you were one of the fellowship and think about it.
But if you don't wanna just take a break from it. Once you are tired of life without LOTR just start again. You'll be a lot more excited!:)

just take a break and get into something else, and when ttt comes out, you'll have your obbsession back again! besides, it's always best to have balanced interests. not too much of something and not too little.
