www.theonering.net/movie/.../large/333 (http://www.theonering.net/movie/s****book/large/333)

that´s a link to the pict that recently has appeared over all the fan sites. I like it. The beard, the hood, the staff... all´s okay. But...

why that pict has so low quality? are that beard and hood real? i wish to know the opinion of those of you who know how to alter an image with Photoshop and similar programs.

It's just an on-set spy photo. Doubtful that it's been altered, even though you CAN alter it all you want. Someone would have discovered it by now.

Now... no brimmed hat? I'm sure it says several times he wears a brimmed hat... well, perhaps not all the time then.

The image could have been faked, but then so could have every image from LOTR we've seen so far. Ok, I HATE the look!!! That staff is horrible!!! And like Parrot pointed out, where's the hat??? I am getting less and less happy with these movies

Maybe the pic was taken during a break in filming.....he laid his hat down to wipe his brow. Come on ppl don't lose faith!

Actually, losing some faith wouldn't hurt. Then the films will turn out way better than we expect!

(((Psst, IP, I agree, as a matter of fact I try to be a pesimist about them for this very reason. Don't tell me about this though, I try to hide it from myself)))

he does need a hat, & the look of that staff is a little too cliche. & i've always imagined saruman as having this angular, shady-looking face that just screamed at you when you looked at him - this guy looks too un-devious.

and concerning this movie, i'd much rather be pesimistic & surprised than optimistic & have another mediocre TPM-ish experience.

WEll, if you've seen any of Lee's other performances (emphasis on his dracula) then you know he can be quite frightening. That pic was most likely taken during a break.

IronParrot

I'd have to agree with Tater on that one.

Umm...I think I pointed that one out. :P

I believe you pointed out that his not wearing the hat didn't mean he didn't have one. You didn't talk about his acting. :P

Nonono. Of course Lee is a good actor. I was agreeing with Tater in the respect that the photo was probably taken during a break.

Quoted from auduin's post from above: Maybe the pic was taken during a break in filming......

Now look what you have done.....gone and made me competitive too. :P

Lee who? i didn't recognize the actor.

& as people so wisely pointed out, if "it was taken during a break in the filming," than i probably said anything about his lack-of-evil-looks.

I always pictured Saruman to be someone... like Ian McDiarmid(sp) with a long, fuzzy beard. But he's okay. Never seen him act before so I can't prejudice too much.

Yeah, I think he's okay...

IronParrot

If only the Christopher Lee picture had the hat! I think it's the only thing missing from my image of Saruman...

Now, of course, this is when he's still Saruman the White. I wonder what he'll look like when he becomes Saruman of Many Colors...

I always pictured Saruman dressed in a cloak. And only in a cloak. I never thought he had the same kind of hat as Gandalf did.

Anyway... I can't wait to see his cloak when becomes Saruman of Many Colors. It will propably be CG.

Cool... http://www.earlyng.homestead.com/files/gandalf1.gif

He has a hat in the book.

Really? Are you sure? I remember him looking exactly like Gandalf but I don't remember anything about him wearing a hat...

Oh well... http://www.earlyng.homestead.com/files/gandalf1.gif

That's okay noldo....I didn't remember Aragorn ever smoking pipeweed. :p

Hullo BTW, I don't think that I ever welcomed you to Entmoot. I really like your LOTR icons....especially Theoden and Galdalf.....and Treebeard. :)

LOL! I can't believe i don't remember it. :) :) :)

Well, I guess every admin has checked them out, eh?

Yeah, we have the icons set up in the moderator forum already. Once you've completed all of them, we'll pick the ten best and then release it board-wide :)

And now there's Saruman without his hat... :(

Don't worry, maybe the icon-Saruman was taking a break during filming!

LOL! :D

Okay, great. I'll do some more tomorrow and see what I can do about the icon-Saruman.

Yeah, the icons are great. I especially like Gandalf, he's awesome. I guess now would be a good chance to make the comments you asked for in the thing. Yeah, Merry and Pippin have a bit too much hair, and well, you know about the two green ones. Also, Gimli's a little too red like you said (he he, that rhymed.) Other than that they're awesome.

noldo

Pippin and Merri have bigger hair because of the entdraughts.

Hey, the green ones are not even ment to be there. I know they look ridicilous. :D

1. Saruman's staff was made of wood

3. From Saruman's first appearance in the books onward, Saruman's cloak was made of many colours, not just white, so hopefully this picture is taken before Saruman captures Gandalf.

3. Why is there a hint of purple in Saruman's beard? He should have a few strands of black in his white beard, but not purple.

4. What happened to his hat?

Hmmpf, why do you think the staff is innapropriate and to cliche? Tolkien frequently described the Wise as carrying staffs, so of course he should have one.... and being as its Saruman, the gaudy thing on top is appropriate. Gandolf's on the other hand would be much simpler, just an old tree branch or something.

Darth Tater

Him having a staff is of course not innapropriate (which would make it appropriate ;) ), it's the fact that it's purple.

Lee is the actor with most knowledge of LotR, he has read the books at least one time every year and also met Tolkien. He is helping other people on the set when they do anything wrong. Really good actor.

Lee :

"I recently finished playing Saruman the White, the Wizard in 'LORD OF THE RINGS'. It has always been a dream of mine to bring to the screen the marvels of this wonderful work and this has allowed me to take part in a production which could well be the pinnacle of my acting career. I can't talk about it more than that, so you'll have to wait and see!"

There is the possibility that this photo was shot of a "flashback" scene to Saruman's White days, perhaps during Gandalf's tale to the Council of Elrond. And remember, it took a moment for Gandalf to first notice that his robe was not white.

Also, Saruman can certainly appear less than hideously evil!

I am a little disturbed by hearing Lee say that he has "finished" shooting. Does that mean that the "Scouring of The Shire" has been shot? Or does that mean this entire segment has gone the way of Tom Bombadil?
