i´ve been watching it, though i´m having problems: i can only see it once after waiting a lot to load. When i try to play it again Quick Time hangs down. Besides, my net access also have hang down several times. :(
WARNING, TRAILER SPOILERS BELOW!
Need i to say it´s worth enough? You cannot see anything with the details you´d desire, but playing it in slow motion... well i think it gives stuff enough to keep us discussing for a couple of months. ;)
hehe, Arwen has her ears neatly covered by her hair, i think nobody could say if she´s an elf or a woman, but perhaps that was the true intention of Tolkien.
My fave shot is that of the fell orcs running in a battle. Awesome.
We have also some shots of the "scale effect" between hobbits and men. It seems that PJ is going to force a lot the pitch of the shots. I like the pan down to the approach of the back riders to the hobbits, but i´m not sure i like the shot of the hobbits staring to the riders.
The music is quite well, but i hope better things for the movie.
Well, there is a lot more stuff, and many shots i couldn´t recognize. I´ll leave it to y´all. Perhaps we can do a detailed shot-by-shot schedule of the trailer. I think the first shot we see is a fantastic recreation of the house of Celeborn & Galadriel. Great! :)

Okay... it's been quite the adventure getting the trailer today... I'll tell you guys more about it sometime. It's quite the intruiging anecdote, I assure you. But on to the trailer itself...
GOD I WANT TO SEE THIS FILM!!!!!!
This, my friends, is the one to line up for come Christmas 2001, 2002, and 2003. I'm on the pavement for this one. I am THERE.
The orc design is absolutely brilliant. This is how orcs were meant to look. It really doesn't get that much better than that. The Black Riders... if they're this terrifying in the trailer imagine how they're going to be in the film! Of course, the thing I really loved about the trailer was the cool forging of the Ring transition effect. Man, this looks incredible. Except... well, maybe Aragorn will look taller in the film... I expected him to be taller than he looked. Arwen doesn't look bad at all, but I'm seriously worried about what they've done to her role, and the trailer doesn't relieve that one bit... in fact, I'm even more worried now because she's one of the first-billed names at the end of the trailer. Oh well, maybe it's because Liv Tyler is well known and say, Orlando Bloom is not...
One thing - that shot of the HUGE army of orcs coming in over the field... I can't think of where that might be except Pelennor. Could they have shot Pelennor already? Curious.

I am very frustrated. I have downloaded quicktime, but I cannot install it because of the odd nature of the Install program--it has to connect to the "Apple Public HTTP Site", and for some reason can't, even when my browser can go to the Apple site just fine. I guess nobody here would be likely to know how to fix this, but it's so frustrating! And so far no one has found a way to convert the trailer from QuickTime to another, more versatile, format. What's with Apple that they're so proprietary?? (sorry anduin) This makes me mad.

I was able to save it to my hard drive from two different sites. One was the one listed above...I'll have to check on the other. Try using your right mouse-button to click the link for the movie, and choose "save link as". I'm not sure it'll work, but try it anyway.

If you want another size, change the 480 to something else. (at least that's what someone else told me to do)
And after you have the screen on your browser, then select "Save as" on the file menu, and save the link to your hard drive.

The sites still carrying the trailer may have paid for the privilege. Hence, New Line would have to ensure that non-authorized sites go down fast in order to maintain the value of their contracts.
That is just a guess. I do not have any inside information on the matter.

QuickTime (version 5 i think) is required to play the preview. If you haven´t it you can download from loroftherings.net or form the Apple site.
If you already have it i don´t know what can be your problem.

Actually, you have to have at least Quicktime 4 (close enough ;) ). QT4 can be downloaded from the sites that FM mentioned.
But make sure that you don't download the trailer from the offical movie site, it cannot be saved from there. I would suggest downloading it from here (http://http://www.movie-list.com/l/lordoftheringstrilogy.shtml). :)
Good luck and keep us posted! ;)

Sorry guys, that was probably the last place that carried the video. If there is some other place out there that has it, I don't know where. I know that there is a way to view it again if you download it from the offical site, but it was so confusing (and it seemed to be easier for PCs than with Macs), downloading it from another source was the easiest solution. The instructions on how to do (if they are still there) was listed in the feedback section of the article announcing the trailer on AICN.
Okay, I just searched AICN and came upon this (http://aint-it-cool-news.com/display.cgi?id=5595). If you need further instuctions, you will have to search the feedback section. I think someone in there might have figured out a way to save it to disk. Good luck, usually the feedback sections are HUGE and take forever to download....so be patient. Also know that the reason you cannot save the trailer is basically the movie pops up into another window without a URL. What you will be doing by following the directions is getting the URL....or something like that. ;) Like I really know what I am talking about. :p
If you cannot get that to work, download the trailer, but never close the window. Sure you will never again be able to turn the computer off again or receive phone calls (if you don't have cable or DSL), but you will be able to watch the trailer when ever you like. Or you could video tape it from your screen.

it took an hour of downloading (the net was fast tonight), but i finally saw it!
AWESOME!
armies of Orcs... armies of Orcs... eep!
OK, now i want to see this! i did before, but now i REALLY want to!
- after seeing that one shot, i can accept Elijah playing Frodo.
- the Nazgul just don't look that scary - but then quarter-screen stuttering video doesn't have anywhere near the same "presence" that a full-size movie screen does. the hobbits look Hobbitish, that's a good sign.
- can't see Arwen's ears - nice touch!
- love the Orc-army - but whoever asked which Orc-muster that was for, i have no idea either. could it be a show-off- the-tech shot, like the skeletal Gollum(?) in the wireframe shot? that'd be kind of sad if they didn't use such a great shot in the movie.
- the solidifying-of-the-Ring shots are great - nice detail.
- is that dwarfish man the guy who played Leonardo on Voyager? (i know soem Trekkie here knows this)
this alleviates some of my fears - i thought they'd trash the books in a big glitzy Hollywood thing that would ruin the stories for all who haven't read them. i'm stil mad at some of the stuff PJ's done (X xenarwen, bring back bombadil! - hey, we can make that into a protest cry!) but now i want to see it, if mostly for the effects.
oh hypocrisy...
and thanks anduin for the suggestions - after i saw the preview about 3 times i thought "get a camcorder & tape it off the screen," but since i don't have access to a camcorder, that would be difficult.

if you're talking about the episode where aliens steal bits of Voyager's technology & Leonardo goes wandering around an alien planet with the Doctor's mobile emitter, then yes it was. but he was very good in Scorpion I (aka Seven's first episode).
almost all of voyager's problems are bad writing - can't really blame the actors, they have to work with the bad scripts as well as the good ones.
back to the topic... i looked at every movie-trailer site i could find, & they all link back to lordoftherings.net. & anduin, your link keeps freezing my computer (!^&#%^* Netscape! never behaving!) but i saw it, i guess that's the important part.

Tolkienonline.com is good. Just click on the movie link on the right
By the way, those not using Flashget, you should get it now. It took me 2:38 minutes (at 236.04 k/s) to download the entire 35 meg. Usually, without flashget I just do 60k/s. So it's at least 4 times faster. It basically uses multiple thread with multiple FTP search. It uses resume files too. Everybody should get that, I started using it a week ago and it's really great.
Flashget information (http://www.amazesoft.com)
Download Flashget (http://www.amazesoft.com/download.htm)

Sorry to intrude, but I remembered this from a book of lore that inexplicably appeared on my shelf. Perhaps it helps explain the nature of some of these computer problems.
'Revenge?' said Frodo. 'Revenge for what? I still don't understand what all this has to do with Bilbo, myself, and our computer.'
'It has everything to do with it,' said Gandalf. 'You do not know the real peril yet; but you shall. I was not sure of it myself when I was last here; but the time has come to speak. Give me your computer for a moment.'
Frodo rolled open the top of Bilbo's desk. There, between the pigeonholes, the device was fastened with a chain. He unfastened the chain and handed the thing slowly to the wizard. It felt suddenly very heavy, as if either it or Frodo was in some way reluctant for Gandalf to touch it.
Gandalf held it up. It looked to be plated with pure and solid gold. 'Have you seen any graphics on it?' he asked.
'No,' said Frodo. 'There are none. It's quite plain, and it's never shown anything but text files.'
'Well then, look!' To Frodo's astonishment and distress, the wizard heaved it suddenly into the middle of a glowing corner of the fire. Frodo gave a cry and groped for the tongs; but Gandalf held him back.
'Wait!' he said in a commanding voice, giving Frodo a quick look from under his bristling brows.
No apparent change came over the thing. After a while Gandalf got up, closed the shutters outside the window, and drew the curtains. The room became dark and silent. For a moment the wizard stood looking at the fire; then he stooped and removed the thing from the hearth with the tongs, and at once picked it up. Frodo gasped.
'It is quite cool,' said Gandalf. 'Take it!" Frodo received it on his shrinking lap; it seemed to have become thicker and heavier than ever.
'Open it up!' said Gandalf. 'And look closely.'
As Frodo did so, he saw fine lines, finer than the smallest pixels, running across the thing, lines of fire that seemed to form the symbols of a scrolling code. They shown piercingly bright, and yet remote, as if out of a great depth, despite the thinness of the screen.
qwertyuiop asdfghjkl
zxcvbnm,<> !@#$%^&*()
'I cannot read the fiery code,' said Frodo in a quavering voice.
'No,' said Gandalf, 'but I can. The letters are Assemblish, of an ancient code, but the programming language is out of Mordor. This in the Common Tongue is what is programmed, close enough:
One Thing to link them all and on the Net to bind them.
It is only two lines of a code long known in Assemblish-lore:
Cheap Things for the Consumers willing to buy,
Heaven for the Brokers on their swank cell phones,
Fine for Middle Men bound to lie,
None for the Debtors who can't get loans
From the Land of Mordor where the Profits die.
One Thing to rule them all, One Thing to find them,
One Thing to link them all, and on the Net to bind them
To the Land of Mordor where the Profits die.
He paused, and then said slowly in a deep voice: 'This is the Master-thing, the One Thing to rule them all. This is the One Thing that he lost many ages ago, hiding it in luggage that went astray. He greatly desires it but he must NOT get it.'
Frodo sat silent and motionless. Fear seemed to stretch out a vast hand, like a dark cloud rising in the East and looming to engulf him. 'This thing!' he stammered. 'How, how on earth did it come to me?'

Are you sure this computer is THE one?
If so, he's already perverting me?

Well, Shanamir, you could toss it in the fire and see what happens! If it is not golden, then I wouldn't bother.
If it turns out to be the One Thing, then you have a quest on your hands!
If not, then you probably needed a new computer anyway.
My fear is (since the book of lore has now mysteriously vanished from my shelf and I don't know the end of the story) that the One Thing is out there somewhere.
If this is so, and its evil has awakened, then all Things connected on the Net will be twisted to its dark purposes.
Do you find yourself spending lots of time with your computer? Are you curiously reluctant to let another sit before it? Does it gnaw at your mind when you are not around it? Do you wish that you could carry one of these Things with you everywhere? Do you desire ever greater and more powerful Things?
You may be falling under its evil spell!
Cast it into the fire! Save yourselves!
(Gilthalion lifts his CPU from the table. It feels strangely heavy. It seems altogether precious to him and he thinks of life without it. With a final mighty effort of his will, he hurls it in the direction of the study window. But he finds he has only set it gently back in its place.)

that reminds me of the "one OS to rule them all..." email that was floatign around awhile ago.
and as for processors, i have an AMD K6-2, which is supposedly equal to a Pentium III. earlier today i got a new virus list & scanned everything that could be scanned, & my computer was RAMPANT with new viruses; i'm hoping now that it's clean all the annoying little problems will stop. but i also have only 32 megs RAM, & need more.
and if i gave anyone a virus, i'm very sorry.

I have a Mac so it can't be the One Thing, but I think it's networked with it

Why can't it be the One Thing? All I know is One Thing, and it is sitting in front of me right now. ;)
