I love Anne Rice. I've only read through the Queen of the damned though.

PS: Is there already an Anne Rice thread? I searched for one but couldn't find one.

I don't know if there's an Anne Rice thread, but there was brief discussion of her novels in Gen Lit on the Original Dracula Book thread.

I've got Interview With The Vampire, The Vampire Lestat, Queen of the Damned, and The Body Thief. I've also read Merrick. I love the Vampire Chronicles!!!
I've also read The Witching Hour.
Has anyone seen the movie of Queen of the Damned? I was wondering if it was worth going to see.

It must not be very good, because I was going to see it since I knew it was coming soon, but it was out of theaters before I knew it had come out yet! I think it's come and gone. Guess I'll have to rent it sometime.

I didn't even know the movie was out, I heard Aaliyah was going to play Akasha, then she died and I didn't hear any more....

Anyway I've read the first two of the Vampire Chronicles and I plan to read all of them Has anyone read the newest one, I think its Memnoch the devil,or something like that correct me if I'm wrong.

Hmm, maybe that's what happened, they had already started filming then she died so they had to suspend production. That's a possibility.

i believe they had already filmed much of her shots before she died. Not too many things should be changed from the original script. And ive only seen the movie interview with the vampire, lol. Im from louisiana, so mebbe i should pick up a book of hers one of these days.

I used to read Anne Rice, but I became so attracted to Lestat I felt I had to put her books away for fear of my immortal soul.

That's the problem with her books, you find yourself getting sucked in!
Lestat or Louis or Armand, I can't decide!!!

I'm definately a Louis person, although I love Lestat as far as characterization goes.

I'm with you azalea Louis for me:D but of course Armand wouldn't be bad either:D :D

DON'T see Queen of the Damned. It's quite bad. It's this weird amorphous mixture of the Vampire Lestat and Queen of the Damned. Nothing happens quite like it did in the books, and so many scenes are missing that it doesn't make much sense unless you've already read the books.

Overall, it's as if they took the two books, ripped random pages out, put the remaining chunks in a blender, and decided to make a film from the product.

Well, I liked it, although as usual it has differences from the book. I may still see QotD if I'm bored and there's nothing else to rent sometime, just out of curiousity, since I read the books. If I hate it, I can just have fun ripping it apart!:D I'm surprised at how bad it must be, didn't Anne Rice herself have any of the control over it? I had heard she did NOT like the choice of Cruise in Interview, but then was happy with the result. I thought she might try to wield a little more power in this one; I guess not.

Has anyone else read Memnoch the Devil? It is weird! It's one of her more surreal books, and has some interesting ideas about religion!

I loved the film Interview with the Vampire. It's one of the only Brad Pitt films that I actually like. I wasn't too keen on the characterisation of Armand, but Claudia was brilliantly done!

I haven't read Mmnoch yet, but wanted to; however, I did find that as the Vampire series progressed things got weirder and weirder, and I'm not sure if I want to buy any more unless I know I'll enjoy reading them. I'll see if our library has them (but I doubt it).

Love Anne Rice. Splendid, splendid, splendid. Lestat is by far my favorite, and I also love Claudia's character.

Ok, you might want to watch QotD if you want a good laugh. Admittedly, the script would have been okay (but nothing like the book) if the producers didn't have a really cheap budget. They filmed all these scenes with the Elders that clarified the plot, and then they had to cut it out of the finished product. So it didn't make any sense.

Incidentally, I'm reading The Vampire Lestat right now, and, even though I knew most of the plot previously from talking to friends and having already read Queen of the Damned and Tale of the Body Thief, actually reading this book really drives in the fact that, in Interview with the Vampire, Louis' perceptions of Lestat were so wrong. It really tells you a lot about both characters: that Louis is so blind, and Lestat is so easily misunderstood.

And Armand is just weird. I don't get that guy.

I like Armand. The poor guy had a troubling childhood, so what? ;)

I like Armand too. But I don't get him. I don't understand the way his mind works. For example, he waits all those years to make a vampire, and then he makes *Daniel*? Admittedly, I'll probably grow to like Daniel too, but it will take a while. He's such a dork. But so am I.

Interview With the Vampire was relatively interesting, but the whole chronicles seemed to nose-dive after that. At one point, just became grossed-out and put the books down.

I guess I found Interview to be interesting as I grew up in Louisiana too...
