Sorry. I'm not a Trekkie even though I do watch the occasional episode. I've only seen a couple of original episodes and a couple of New Generation episodes. BeardofPants seems to think that this thread belongs in the Entertainment Forum. Anyway... Welcome to the Moot!:)

Yes, yes! By all means a trekkie, and a Whovian, too.
In a little bit you'll see your thread moved to the Entertainment forum. That's my guess. :)

I like star trek. I'm not a trekkie or trekker though. I've probably seen about all of the Original Star Trek episodes through reruns. I've seen most of TNG (well i really only understood the episodes in the early 90s, i was born in late 80s, but i did understand and enjoy tng, plus ive seen those of reruns too), ive seen probably 99% of Deep space nine episodes, I didn't really like that series, but it was ok. I've also seen about 99.5% of all voyager episodes. Voyager was good. And It series started when i was in fourth or fifth grade, so i understood it completely :p (end of 8th grade now only 32 more days of school and onto 9th grade).
ENTERPRISE SUCKS. I've seen maybe 49% of episodes so far. Its really bad. I dont mind missing any episodes. Plots really suck and are similiar. some of the time line is messed up. There is no way you can possibly believe that it happens before the first Star Trek. The special effects are even better than on TNG! And it makes no sense that they are meeting all these new alien races that we never hear of in the other series which in the time line come after.
I've also seen all of the Star Trek movies.
But i just like it, not a trekkie. I dont obsess.
Wow thanks for listening to me ramble! I hope you read that, because......i post for people to read! :p
edit: I would just like to add: no, I dont feel like moving this to entertainment forum. It can stay here. I have my reasons. Also would like to welcome Katt_knome_hobbit to entmoot. I would also like to add how much the Enterprise theme song sucks. Its not even original! Its a real song by some guy. It was not made specially for the serries.

Welcome Katt_knome_hobbit,
I also like Star Trek and have probably seen all the reruns of TOS and William Shatner's hilarious acting. I've also seen most of TNG from the time it started out and some of DS9.
I just saw the last episode of the last season of Voyager a couple of nights ago and am having withdrawal symptoms (nothing else to watch at 11pm). They showed all 7 seasons starting with a january 1st marathon and then showing the episodes every night(mon-sun).
Enterprise isn't showing here yet but I am inclined to believe Hobbit. It's very difficult to make a prequel about meeting new races and having it last for many episodes (much more seasons) without having issues with continuity.

I used to watch trek ( all series) but it was way to PC. and some of the plots were just darn right silly.
I enjoyed the grimmer episodes.
I liked the movies ST II and ST VI no super duper aliens.

My fav ST is the next generation, I think because I have a weird crush on Data (I guess I like yellow skin). I did like Voyager, but I've seen a few episodes of Enterprise and I can't really get into it. That female Vulcan is annoying! I like the orginal Star trek movies, especially the one where they go back in time to Earth to get a whale.
Katt_knome_hobbit
05-03-2002, 06:16 PM
I know what you mean about Data. And that vulcan chick on Enterprize is really stupid! Both DS9 and TNG are my favorites. And everyone (trekkie or no) needs to see the origional series for cultural literacy. I really understand everything they say on star trek. I even get all that stuff about the space time continum as well as the engineering stuff. Oh well.
;) Peace fellow Seattleites and Trekkies! (Oh, and everyone else too.)

I'm a Trekkie.
But I have a soft spot for TNG. None of the other ones were quite as memorable. Picard is still my favourite captain. I like DS9, but I was dismayed by how Voyager turned out. Enterprise, I think I will still give it time. I like the characters, all except T'Pol, because she's irritating and not even interesting, which is a really bad reflection on the way she's written and acted, because you usually can't go wrong with a Vulcan.
My favourite races are Romulans and Cardassians, although I don't know if you would call them "hot" :p .
Katt_knome_hobbit
06-29-2002, 02:18 AM
You know why DS9 was good but everything after that was bad?
It's because the last star trek related thing Gene Rodenberry discused before he died in 1991 was DS9 which started in 1993.
Voyager and Enterprize suck a whole motherload of suckage because Gene Rodenberry had nothing to do with them.
Others blame DS9's success on the rumour that the concept was stolen from Baybalon 5. Thats stupid though.
Anyway, my favorite races are Cardassians and Q. Both are goddamn hot in my opinion.
BeardofPants
06-29-2002, 03:12 AM
No, no. The best series is the original. TNG was okay (Picard, Data and 'Q"), and everything else from then on went downhill... Enterprise sucks. And what is it with the music?! And no captains log??
Katt_knome_hobbit

Like I said, Voyager and Enterprize suck a whole motherload of suckage.
(I got that from this guy Matt at school. I had to sit next to him in math and I could never concenterate. He was so funny!)
So what is the hottest aliean race, in your opinion, BOP?

06-29-2002, 03:24 AM

Hmmm...I don't find T'Pol hot at all, although it appears that she tries hard to be. Seven I liked. She radiated coolness and confidence. Hoshi is sweet, but her character needs to gain some confidence before she can be truly cool.
No hot males? Kirk while he was still young or Riker before the belly and the beard could cut a dashing figure.
What amazes me is that Marina Sirtis seems to be getting better looking as she ages, unlike most women. She looked better at the end of the show than at the beginning, and she still looks good years after it ended. Need to find out her secret...:p
The DS9/B5 comparison I've heard of. There are alot of similarities, but I actually liked B5 more. I wish ST could come up to that level, but it ain't happening.
BeardofPants
06-29-2002, 06:13 PM
Riker doesn't do anything for me, pre OR post beard/belly. Ergh. Kirk was okay, I guess, but his stilted acting driving me up the wall!

If any of you are interested, there's a new Star Trek movie coming out in November-Nemesis. The trailers make it sound like this will be the last TNG movie ("a generation's final journey . . ."). It looks interesting.

Nemisis sounds stupid. It's all about the Romulans. I thought we got over them.
Next they'll have to start making DS9 movies. Yay! :D
mirrille
06-29-2002, 11:20 PM
really?
I love romulans! It's about time. ST got all obsessed with Klingons and Borg lately. Good to see some more attention to them.
Really, Kirk and Riker don't do anything for me either, but I did think they are the most classically "handsome" in the series. Personally, I liked O'Brien and Bashir (my favourite "buddy" pair). Some of the male characters on Enterprise are quite "cute" and likeable, but not my idea of hot. Which is fine. I don't usually think of people as hot. It's not a term I typically use to describe people. :p

I liked it when DS9 got involved with the Dominion.
Cardassians rule you all. I think they should be the antagonists in the next movie. Bring Gul Ducat and Garrak back. They were hot!

Katt,
I love Gul Dukat. He is soooo cool. Who would have thought a scary looking, older (for me anyways - I'm a second generation Trekkie, after all) guy with a ton of make-up and silly costume could be so sexy? The man practically oozes charisma and charm, and that's amazing considering he's supposed to be a nasty, scheming despot. He steals every scene he's in and I enjoy watching him. I didn't like what they did with him in the end, making him go crazy like that. He stopped being as cool once he was messing with the Pah-wraiths.
Garak is fun, but not nearly as cool.

I always liked Data, I think I said that in my original post but that was long ago. Even though he is nearly 50 now I think. Alot of women like Picard (not me!), bald head and all.
I have given up watching Enterprise now, I might get some TNG videos to watch.

(Grumble), at least you guys can see Star Trek. Around here it’s a rare commodity.
There is an old series rerun going on.
TNG, it ended before Riker got a beard.
DS9 and Voyager, yeah, we’ve seen the first season.
Enterprise what?
Ps, who is Janice Rand’s character?

Janice Rand is from the earlier seasons of TOS - she had a silly blonde wig thing going on, and was always giving those sheep eyes to Kirk...

9Star trek was my first introduction to english. I used to bug my sister every 5 seconds to ask her to translate. (aaaaah those were the days :p)
The original series were fun, although they're quite dated now.
The next generation was the best in my view. I didn't see all too much from DS9 because it was rather *coughboringcough* it only got vaguely interesting during the war. It's in no way like B5. (the two seasons I saw from B5 before they stopped airing it were MUCH beter than DS9) Voyager wasn't bad, but it didn't reach the level of TNG, still got to see that last seasons though. And enterprise, well they haven't started airing it yet here. But from what I've heard it isn't grand.

You think that people will still love POTC in several years? It will be just but a memory - LOTR movies won't (be just but a memory) and neither will star trek.
I haven't seen POTC - it may be good, but even if it is, it isn't *that* good; not a classic or anything. Most people that I have talked that like it like it because of the hot guys - and well that is no attraction for me, will see it on cable.
--
I've probably posted this before but- not a trekkie, but i do like star trek - ive been to a convention once like 5 years ago
Star Trek - good, very dated - probably seen all episodes, most movies
TNG- best of all star trek, seen most episodes, not all (especially of earlier seasons).
DS9 - ok, not that great. boring.
Voyager - pretty good, better than DS9 - i agree with many that it was not as good as TNG
Enterprise - pretty HORRIBLE. I tried watching the first season, saw most episodes - and a majority sucked. I tune into it every once in a blue moon now - sometimes it is entertaining, mostly not.

I agree with everything HOBBIT said in his last post about the StarTreks except one thing. I don't think Enterprise is that bad.
My favorite series by far is TNG.
It had the best cast -- Yes, even better than the original, though that comes in a close second.
It had the best plots -- My friend likes DS9 because he said that it has more of a continuing plot from episode to episode, but to me that is kinda like spreading the butter too thin (don't think Bilbo). While DS9 may have had a very nice overall story line, every single episode of TNG had at least a good or interesting plot.

Do ye mean I might get hung by all these avid Trek fans for saying POTC's better than ST? Well, let's just say that ST is very good, but Pirates is more my kind of entertainment, and ST is other people's. I never really liked stuff that's set in space anyways. I much prefer pirates.

I went to that ST convention with my sister and saw William Shatner, got his autograph. Cool, but guess what? They said there that the reason Nemises flopped was because they released it 5 days before LOTR: TTT. I went "Yussss!!!"- and didn't get lynched, believe it or not- but I thought that was sooo cool that LOTR beat ST!

Oh man! Discovered original Star Trek on re-runs while a junior higher in mid-70's... GREAT STUFF! I even liked the old Captain Pike crew shown in the one flash back episode ("Menagerie").
Didn't like NG at first and gave up after 3-4 episodes (all seemed rip-offs of orginal series). Couple years later, gave it another chance at the urgings of friends... had indeed become a good show. Liked the continuity across episodes - which wasn't really considered a necessary ingredient when the first was done in the 60's.
As each new spin-off comes, I get less and less interested. Really haven't warmed to Enterprise (they introduce Klingons in the very first episode and their home world is within 4 days at Warp 4??? Then they were right under the Federation's armpit in Kirk's day!  ).
Thought they missed one golden opportunity with Voyager though... on the last episode, when 7 of 9 married Chicotah (SP?) - after the ceremony she should've turned to him and said (warmly) "You will be assimilated!" ;) And then end the show right THERE! :D

Cool! Yes - I sort of liked that old crew... as Janet says, it was a different role though. And... technically, she wasn't his wife at the time - someone else was. I think Mr Roddenberry was associated with a few different actresses in the show, sadly enough.

In the original Star Trek television series Janice Rand (played by Grace Lee Whitney) served as a yeoman to Captain James T. Kirk of the USS Enterprise (NCC-1701) in 2266, assisting him with his job.

Grace Lee Whitney was also on the design team for the great short skort uniforms the girls wore on the original! She was also a bit of a drunk as well which lead to her getting cut short.. probably didn't want to do it with a producer even though she was hammered at the company party!

Grace has overcome her problems and is something of a poster woman for recovery among us Trekkies. I'm glad Rand got promoted. She was on Sulu's ship as, what a Lieutenant Commander in Communications, I think.
