I had heard that a theatre trailer would come out in Oct/Nov of 2001.

There'll be a new Internet teaser trailer next month. The real Fellowship of the Ring trailer won't be out until next year, though.

There'll be a thatrical trailer this December with either 13 Days or Dungeons and Dragons. Probably with 13 Days. It's also supposed to be on the internet as well.

By now everyone with an interest in this thread has heard the news that the trailer will be released with "Thirteen Days" on January 12. The movie was given a special release in Los Angeles and New York this week so it would qualify for the Academy Awards but there have been no spy reports about it so I am guessing the trailer was not included.
Advance footage was shown at the Cannes film festival in November. I get the impression that the decision was made at that time NOT to include the trailer with "Dungeons and Dragons". No idea of why. And "Thirteen Days" was originally scheduled for release around December 8 but that obviously was pushed back.
The trailer will most likely be posted online at www.apple.com/trailers/ (http://www.apple.com/trailers/) so people who don't want to sit through a Kevin Costner movie should check that Web site on January 12. The Internet preview is still there, and probably will remain, so you need to look for the "NEW" tag beside the right trailer (if it gets posted).

I'm going to see 13 Days. If only for a chance to see a Lord of the Rings trailer on the big screen. Plus it looks like an ok movie.

Just thought I'd update my info here. I was, btw, very ill in December and early January, and that really made it difficult for me to do anything. I'm only starting to catch up on the backlog of things to attend to.
Anyway, they didn't post the trailer on Apple.Com as I expected. There have been some interesting speculations about why, but now it's being reported that Apple has indeed posted a Quicktime version of the new theatrical trailer. So, those of you who don't like the version on the official LOTR site can check out the Quicktime version.
