This is for anyone who wants to do wierd poems.
There is a type of poem called a Hiaku. this is a type of poem that is suppose to describe or paint a picture for the reader and it realy does not have to rhyme. The poem is made up of 3 sentences. there has to be 5 sylables in the first and last sntence and 7 in the middle.
Here is mine:
Glorfindel's ride
Galloping down road,
On a horse that gleams white rode,
The elf Glorfindel.
It is a type of Japanese poetry. Please send me some of you'r Lotr
Hiaku.
"Down the road I galloped. Not a famous knight, not a king or queen, but just Sicirus the weary wolf at flight.

Good you almost got it .
But it is suppose to have 5 sylables in the first sentence.
Ga-lo-ping down the road.
7
On a horse that gleams wight rode,
5
the elf Glor-fin del
Clap your hands at each sylable if it heps.
"Galloping through the night. Not a famouse knight, king, or queen. But Sicirus the weary wolf at flight."

i'd post some, but i am most definitely not a poet. that'd be my friend veronica you want for poetry, not me. :).
oh and Sicirus, if you want to put the "Galloping through the night. Not a famous knight, king, or queen. But Sicirus the weary wolf at flight." at the end of each of your posts, you should put it in your signature. to do this, go to User CP, Edit Profile, and scroll down to the place where you can create your signature. :)

Yes, I'd like to know too!!!
um, a Haiku, hmm. . .
Here's one in praise of entmoot. . .
Where 'ringers' gather
Place of epic discussions
The 'moot is my home
I'll try to come up with some more, later. Haiku are fun, especially LotR ones! Has anyone here read the story 'Basho and the Fox?' :D

If you want specific emulation then a direct "story line poetry" approach is wrong.
Japanese Haiku doesn't litterally describe an event as most efforts here have, rather the connection between lines is more metal than literal.

Huh? Could you say that in English please?
It seems to me that most of these efforts have been descriptions of characters or moments in LotR . . .not attempts at story lines.

Evil little ring,
Posses all it comes to,
Destroyed in Mount Doom

More:
Sam
I will stand by you,
Through the thick and thin times
I will follow you master.
The Ring
I will always haunt you
I will always gnaw on your mind
You cannot escape...
The Phial of Galadriel
A light in darkness
Strength to a small, frightened soul
Strength for the mind.
There a lot better than the last ones. How are they?

Here I will try again:

Faramir, your haiku are very good. I love the one about the phial.
QUOTE: FRODO LIVES!!! YODA IS DA MAN!!! I love Jesus. UNQUOTE.
Apropos of nothing, I don't want to start a theological discussion, but although I'm very fond of Frodo, and think Yoda is cool enough if you like small green gurus, Jesus is in a class by Himself and if you stop to think about it you might not want to lump him along with the others. I wouldn't let them throw me to the lions for Frodo or Yoda.
Faramir
08-02-2002, 11:43 AM
Well thank you! I'll have to come up with more!
As for the Frodo, Yoda, and Jesus thing, a moderator messed with my sig, I've been meaning to fix it but I haven't.

Faramir, yours about the phial was very beautiful. here are my humble first attempts:
Helm's deep
translucent marble
frozen clouds of rose and white
waiting in the dark
Lothlorien
a golden leaf floats
on shining silver water
so many farewells
japanese haiku is the art of painting still life pictures with words(at least that is what I think)

The Golden Wood
The Golden Wood, O
Leaves gold, trees of silver bark,
A haven in peril.
The Misty Mountains
The Misty Mountains,
Cold and tall, they watch silent
All who walk their pass.
Mount Doom
Smoke rises and embers leap,
The Mount of Doom is shaking,
While evil is forged.
I think the Mount Doom one is my favorite so far.

Once great kings, now nine dark slaves,
Lured by the one ring
The Ringbearer
08-19-2002, 05:43 AM
I had an attack of Haiku Fever. :D
Gandalf's last command
Frodo's cry pierces the gloom
Tears in Dimrill Dale
Burdened and weary
Sent upon a hopeless quest
He longs for Bag-End
Eyes searching the ground
Small friends in deadly trouble
A long and vain search
Queen of the Valar
Shining white Star-kindler
Wife of great Manwe
Searching desperately
His master in evil hands
He will not give up
A trustworthy friend
A glad and willing servant
Gardener and elf-friend
Lost king of Gondor
Reluctant to claim his throne
Mighty warrior
A swirling black cloak
A memory of old pain
Beware the Nazgul.....
Lord of the wters
Solitary but happy
Master of the Seas
Golden-haired elf-prince
Untouchable in battle
Longing for the sea
Oooohhhhh. My fingersss.....
