A thread devoted to that epic British comedy series.
Starring John Cleese, Prunella Scales, Connie Booth and Andrew Sachs.

There was alot of talk about Fawlty Towers on the Monty Python thread, so, I thought I'd start a Fawlty Towers thread.
Say anything you like, favourite episode, favourite quote, favourite character, it doesn't matter, it just has to be Fawlty Towers.

I'll start - favourite episodes were The Germans and the Corpse and the Kipper - classiscs.
No offence is meant to anyone it is purely comedy.

German, "Vill you stop talkingg about the vawr!?"
Basil fawlty, "Me? You started it!"
German, "No vee didn't"
Basil Fawlty, " Yes you did, you invaded Poland!"

****
Does anyone notice in the second series the different names hgiven to Fawlty Towers? i.e./ the letters of the sign being rearranged. Favourite one of those is "Flowery Twats".

Which is better, Monty Python or Fawlty Towers?
I'd say Fawlty Towers, more my kind of humour, but, don't get me wrong, I like Monty Python too.

blimey Imladris! i would have to say, as much as i like fawlty towers, Monty Python has gotta win it surely?! John cleese is in both, and they are both hysterically funny, but monty python is fall-off-your-chair funny, where as fawlty towers is more pass-the-tissues-i'm-crying-with-laughter funny.

"...Oh! Oh, I see!...It's my fault, is it?...Oh, of course, there I was thinking it was your fault because I left you in charge, or _Manuel's_ fault for not waking you, when all the time it was _my_ fault! Oh, it's so obvious now, I've seen the light! Ah well, I must be punished then, mustn't I? (slaps his bottom) You're a naughty boy Fawlty, don't do it again! "

I loved this short-lived series; John Cleese is such a genius! For me, it's a toss up between fawlty towers, and blackadder.

My favourite was when the germans were there and Basil started imitating Hitler

The best episode is the one with the deaf lady, who has lost her money, and Basil in the mean time is trying to place a bet on the Horses he sends Polly and Manwel to do it for him, cos the old battle axe wont let him.

Basicaly he wins the money, his wife finds it, and u can guess where it ends up..!

Basil plays some good tricks on the deaf lady, like pretending to talk by moving his mouth, she turns up her hearing aid, then he shouts at the top of his voice. hhehe excellent!!!!!!!!!!!!!

yeah, and he does his hilarious speech of 'i expected a room with a proper sea view'
'well what do you expect? herds of wilderbeast sweeping majestically accross the land, the hanging gardens of babylon?'
'i expect to see the sea'
'you can see the sea, its over there between the land and the sky'
'i would need a telescope to see that'
'well may i suggest moving closer to the sea, *mumbling* or preferably IN it'
!!!!!!

Yes, that was another great moment, the one in Mrs. Richards bedroom, the whole sequence was brilliant and then later on in the episode wherew she bangs her head when Basil mouthing silently, "Is this is a piece of your brain?"
"Down the stairs? Oh well don't stop when you get to the basement, give my regards to the Earth's core and if you give us any more trouble I shall visit you in the small hours and put a bat up your nightdress."
"BASIL!"

I've never seen Monty Python, so I can't say which one was better. I can honestly say that the Germans episode is one of the few times I have totally laughed my head off at a TV show. I mean you usually smile or laugh a bit when something funny is on, but that episode had me in tears! John Cleese is one of my favorite actors, I like his accent for some reason.
