Character's sun signs

I couldn't find a thread on this.

Bilbo, by sheer behavior, I would call a Virgo, but what day was his eleventy-first brthday party held? And is there an astrology based on the names of the constellations throughout the Tolkien universe? And what would Bilbo's sign really be? And can we figure out the moon signs based on what we have?

I'm not very knowledgeable on this old divination system, but maybe someone here is?

I just guessed Virgo for Bilbo because I have a friend who's a Virgo who acts just like him.

duh! I just remembered that Galadriel is older than the sun, so no sun sugn for her I guess! ;)

I don't know if it's possible to calculate any of the character's signs (other than Bilbo and Frodo- both Virgos), but if it were by sheer behavior, I would say:

Bilbo: definitely a Virgo
Frodo: Libra/Pisces
Sam: Aries
Merry: Capricorn
Pippin: Sagittarius

Don't know about the non-hobbit characters, never thought about their personalities that much.

I'd pretty much give them star signs by the modern day figuration of dates. I'm sure in Middle-earth it may be a little off, but not entirely.

Well, as I said, I am not knowledgeable about astrology, but I do know that the movement of the stars is ignored in astrology. The positions they use are based on where the stars were when Babylon was around. Since then the stars have shifted around. So needless to say, if this is the fourth age, and so was Babylon, the positions of the stars in the third age would be way out of kilter. But, since they ignore that for modern readings, they should ignore that for extrememly archaic readings, too. Therefore, I agree. The modern signs should be fine. Besides I can't make head or tail of this star chart, aside from finding Tulkas.

I'm a Gemini...

And today I discovered that both my Moon Sign and my Rising Sign (which are as important as the sun sign) are cancer.

And that explains why my horoscope didn't seem right - Gemini's are supposedly very cold and heartless people but Cancers (and me) are extremely loyal and love unreservedly.

I'm not dissing Gemini's! I know that we Gemini's are intelligent, witty and full of useful knowledge. That we are excellent conversationalists and extremely fascinating & creative.
I was just mentioning that all my star-sign guides call Gemini's very unemotional, not caring for anyone very deeply, often extremely cruel to people. And I'm not like that!

I hate being so emotional. And I can never win in an arguement, especially with a girl called Rachael who goes on my bus, she always makes me feel so frustrated I feel like crying. It's nice being young, though, because the boys in your year are almost always older than you. Of course, I'm an exception, my ex, Charlie was younger than me, and boy was THAT relationship a mistake! (Not for that reason though).
Are cancer's also reknowned for making bad decisions?!

I think I agree with you that Bilbo is a Virgo, but I think Pippin and Merry are the same sign or signs that have similar characteristics, although they might be two signs that get on well. I am not very knowledgable on star-signs/sun-signs or whatever. I just read my horoscope and I take it seriously because I have had some REALLY weird coincidences!
