Which would you rather have as a friend (assuming you could only pick one) - an Elf or a Dwarf?

Seriously, think about this.

I know Elves were the wisest and fairest and such, but they're also far more remote. They don't mix 'n' mingle, and they're so high up. I've always pictured them as beautiful and wise, but also cold and somewhat mocking (consider The Hobbit). Dwarves are often greedy and not always smart, but when it comes to friendship, they're the most loyal people in Middle Earth.

Can't quite make up my mind, personally. :)

I would have to say an elf, mostly because I myself am a fairly remote person, and I can be incredibly cold and mocking. Also, my two of my best friends remind me of a Vanyar elves in appearance, and generally elvish in their own manner.

Also, I am in love with elves :D

That's a tough question. I like the fact that dwarves like to get down and dirty. On the other hand, elves are fairer and easier on the eyes.

Right now, it's even money. I'll have to think about this some more.

I would choose as a personal friend between the two a Dwarf. Why? They're loyal. Elves are nice and wonderful and I wouldn't mind being one myself, but friend-wise, Dwarves stick by those they love. And that's a gift far better than immortality.

Ditto. I think it would be easier to be friends with those I feel most like to myself.

I would half to say an elf as well, because when I get around other people I'm horribly insecure and shy, and sometimes come off as a little aloof. As the saying goes, birds of a feather.

And people who carry axes scare me. ;)

Couldn't have put it better. Being somewhat aloof, and reserved, and gosh, dang it, I like bows more than axes.

500th post! Yay!!!

An elf, of course!

Besides, how do you think dwarves smell after toiling underground and in mountains all day long...

you'd have to be an exceptional person to befriend an elf, so I'd say for the average person it be easier to connect with a dwarf.

But remember, Dwarves give mining and certain geological elements priority. You'd have to be interested in all that type of stuff to connect with thy dwarf.

Besides, why would you want a friend called Mim or Gloin, when you could have a friend called Glorfindel?

Dwarf, without a doubt. They are quite loyal. And they are alot more likely to be rich than elfs!

I'd rather be friends with an elf because dwarves are too obsessed with possessions and wealth whereas nature, land and stars are enough for the elves. I like the idea of that.

Welcome Niena!! May you grasp my profound and wise utterings with clear perception!

Anyway, apart from dwarves being obsessive, they also probably stink...

And they don't shave or go for haircuts.

Quick to anger, yet quick to friendship. It's what's inside that counts ;) Even humans are greedy, don't lie. I'd rather want something, though, than be cold and distant and not care.

Elves definately, my friends say i remind them of a Sindar. Besides u would be able to tell if ur dwarf friend was a girl or a guy;)

I agree that it's inside what counts but too much desire for unimportant possessions can cause people to forget what is important. Material things are not that important, they usually can be replaced, unlike nature.

I think elves understand this.

This is too similar to this (http://www.tolkientrail.com/entmoot/showthread.php?s=&threadid=3929) thread.
