Tonight Liv Tyler was a guest on the Conan O'Brian Show. She mentioned the LOTR movie and I was surprised not to hear any reaction from the audience. I was looking forward to any info or mention of the movie and was just surprised when no one in the audience neither whooped nor hollered. I mean live audiences look for any opportunity to make noise and show support.....don't they? <img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/images/emoticons/ohwell.gif ALT=":\"> Anyhoo, Conan then brings up the topic once again and she speaks briefly about the filming of the movie and even speaks one of her Elvish lines. Still the reaction was minimal. Does this mean that the general populace is much less excited about this film than we are or do they not even know that it was filmed?? Surely it should have elicited a response from someone.
It was interesting too that she was very hesitant about speaking the Elvish and mentioned that she thought she might get in trouble or wasn't sure she was allowed to do it.

sure. i think that only the young people cares about the movie, and most of them sees it only as a new great adventure production.

Conan's audience usually is made up of fairly young people, but I think the Lord of the Rings appeals to people of all ages. In fact it was not written for children (if you mean children when you say 'young people'). I watch Conan alot. Sometimes his audience doesn't respond well to things that is definitely main-stream news or statements relating to things that are well known or popular. It adds to the comedy of the host, but it's a little irritating. I don't think (despite the greatest number of book-sales since The Bible) the Lord of the Rings is considered 'in the main stream' yet.
Anyway as a young person (14) I don't see it as a new great adventure production. I'm definitely going to see the movies, and I'll (try to) make myself enjoy them, but I'm going to see the movie because I have a deep interest in Tolkien's works, I can't NOT see the movie. I'll probably like it as a picture, but I've already been annoyed by some of the major departures of the book(s). Above all the armor and the Orcs (and the rediculous Orcs wearing the plate armor!) I'll have problems forgetting.

Wait.
Folk are surprised that a Conan studio audience is clueless about the greatest literature of the 20th century?
Or anything else of worth for that matter. If there wasn't a sign that lit up to say APPLAUSE and folk planted to laugh and cheer there wouldn't be much reaction to anything.

I've seen the clip, it's wicked!
About the audience, Inol is right. LotR was not written for children, Tolkien said it himself. Of course some children still read it, but the majority is adult. Therefore, if Conan's audience was mainly young people as it usually is, there wouldn't be that much of a response. Of course once everyone sees the movie the world's population will be whooping and wooing all we like. ;)

Yes, I would have to agree.....talk about a romance language! It is extremely relaxing to listen to too.....could almost put a spell on you just listening to it. :) I hope they use a lot of it in the movies.

Those people were barbarians who live in a cave. No need to concern about them. They shall vanish once I get my hands on the One.
