What, in your opinion, are the Good, the Bad, and the Ugly of all the characters, events, books, places, items, chapters, quotes, etc. of the entire LotR trilogy? Make it as silly or serious as you like.

Example:

Good: Elves
Bad: Orcs
Ugly: Frodo singing

:) Have fun!

Elfmaster XK

Good: Elves i have to agree
Bad: Shelob. I despise spiders!
Ugly: Frodo's fingernails! EUGH!!!! They're uglier than any orc! (also Elrond, elves should not be that freaky.)

markedel

Bad: Queen Beruthiel and Tarannon's relationship

Bad: Lack of a film script written by J.R.R. Tolkien for an enhanced transition from book to movie

Ugly: The second catapult assault during the seige of Gondor

BeardofPants

Good: the Journey
Bad: the length (not long enough!)
Ugly: the songs (I know, I've probably offended a lot of people, but really, you're sitting in a dangerous area, so what do you do? Sing? Mmmmm...)

WHY did they cast Hugo Weaving as Elrond? Why? Why? Why? "Good evening Mr. Bagginsh" ARgh! I STILL think David Bowie would have made an AWESOME Elrond.

Singing familiar songs can be INCREDIBLY comforting when you find yourself in dangerous and unfamiliar situations.

Yes, especially if you have a high piping voice like Pippin. And that's NOT going to give your location away?

Starr Polish

I never said it was smart, just comforting. :D

Elf Girl

I agree, it wasn't that smart, but a lot of feelings and ideas can only be transmitted through song.

That's funny! Yes, I suppose he's kind of ugly, but it's good ugly! I really like looking at him, in fact I can't get enough. I'm so glad he didn't have one of those cool helmets on in the opening scene so I could admire his good/ugly face. I quit coloring my hair when I saw how wonderful his gray looked. Perfect beauty is somewhat unsatisfying. I love the way Galadriel wore no obvious make-up (fake-up).

This is fun, I'll join in. All my selections are book-based though, not from the movies:

Ugly; Imagening the fellowship taking a bath during there journey
