Just realised who the actor is playing Elrond!

It's the leader of the "agents" in 'The Matrix.'

Yup. "That is the sound of inevitablity, Frodo." :D I think he'll pull of the role well.

I haven't really got a clear idea of his acting abilities but in my oppinion he's too damn ugly to play Elrond.

However when he says the line: " It was forged in the fires of mount doom, only there can it be unmade" in the new trailer his voice alone could well change my mind about him.

i'm pretty sure that's a voicover, he's got a british accent IRL
and if you find it hard to imagine agent smith playing elrond, you should see him in Priscilla, Queen of the Desert

hehe... that bugged me for ages, trying to think where else I'd seen him. It finally clicked a few months back.

a good actor can slide through different roles, but when elrond gives frodo i friendly headlock before the nine companions leave, will frodo should ' MY NAME IS FRODO' when he calls him Mr. Baggins for the 17th time?

If you choose the adorned one, you will live forever, ad create happiness wherever you go, but you will live in a dreamworld. If you choose the unadorned one, you will enter the real world, where nothing is fake, and you may very well be killed. Which do you choose?

This guy can act. I've seen 4-5 movies with him, and he really gets into his roles. I'm sure he'll pull it off fine.
Go rent "The Interview", he pulls a Kaiser Soze on some Aussie Police.

Stupid question, what's a Kaiser Soze?

I think Hugo Weaving will do very well in the part also. Ok, he's not a perfect physical picture of Elrond, but he's almost there.
And I don't know of any actor who is a perfect picture of Elrond who is competent enough to take the role, so I would rather have an almost-Elrond who is competent. Which Mr. Weaving is.

Kaiser Soze was the super-mystery villian in the movie "The Usual Suspects".

I can't tell you more than that...

SEE THE MOVIE!!! (http://us.imdb.com/Title?0114814)

Hey, you're right! I knew he looked familiar.

If anyone cares, another familliar face is the actor who's playing Wormtongue. He played a killing-happy guy named Suder in Star Trek: Voyager and some mentalcase whose name I can't remember in "Beyond the Sea", an episode of the X-Files. He also supplied the voice of Chucky in Child's Play.

Not to mention his chilling breakout performance in One Flew Over the Cokoo's Nest, one of the greatest films of all time

Having seen Hugo Weaving as Agent Smith in the Matrix, (only thing I've seen him in), I believe he'll make an awesome Elrond.

Think about it, he played an otherwordly character(a computer program w/o emotion) beautifully.

What could be more otherworldy than Elrond Halfelven? Ageless, wise, calm in the face of any calamity?

Yeah, I think H. W. is a great choice. Now if only we could have Jude Law as Legolas, talk about beautiful:p
