The Winter King, Enemy of God and Excalibur: the Novels of Arthur?
I loved them; they capture the period so well. What did anyone else think?

I've read them. ;)
Derfel is one of my favorite characters. Very cool.
But I did think that some of it was gratuitously coarse.

Perhaps, but it served a purpose. The realism is incredible and the 'coarseness' was part of that.
