Does anyone know of any statues/parks/monuments in honor of any of Tolkien's characters? I live in New York, but I'd love to know where any are...thanks!

I don't know of any. But, random bit of info, on his and his wife's gravestone, it says "Luthien and Beren" beside their names. :)

Here is a interesting article from last August, I would like to hear how everything got on.

There will never be any official memorials for Tolkien in America, I assure you.

Thank you CBG! That's great...I'll follow up with that. Why none in America?

They need to make a fantasy writers hall of fame - with busts of the authors - I'm sure J.R.R. Tolkien would hold the position of greatest honor. :)

To answer the above question, America would be a an inpersonal location to build a memorial, he never visited America in his life, and he liked his homeland (Which could be considered South Africa, but that was only in his distant youth).

Oh -- I understand why America would be an impersonal place to have a memorial for him...but i was thinking about statues or public sculptures of any of his characters..more in Honor of him than in memorial. I love seeing people's artistic interpretations of his characters/settings. Thanks Strawberry--very cool.

In New Zealand, we have a bus tour that takes you around some of the film sites. Hardly a theme park, I know, but we're milking it for all it's worth! :D :D :D

I wish I lived in New Zealand! Or at least could visit, because I want to see the film sites. Oh, and the birds :)
