Who has read the Count of Monte Cristo? It's one of my favorite books, behind LOTR and a couple others. If you've read it, did you like it at all?

I've only read the Great Illustrated Classics version (am waiting til I read French better so I can read it in the original French). I saw the movie though, with Gerard Depardieu, and it was pretty good, if a bit long (several tapes long, I should say).

I've only got the abridged version. :(
I really enjoyed it, but I felt sorry for Mercedes.

The Count had an amazing plan to get revenge. I love how he sends the fake telegram about the Spanish king, convincing Danglars to buy spanish bonds. Then the Count draws out a ton of money from Danglars bank with his letter of unlimited credit, forcing him into bankruptcy.

The book is on my summer reading list. one of my friends had to do a report on Alexandre Dumas. very interesting, though terrible life. Love the movie and want to see it over and over.
