I'm doing my senior theme over Lord of the Rings, but I'm not sure what angle to take. There is just so much information that I could write about. For instance I could compare the importance of armed conflict in deciding the outcomes of M-E history against the importance of chance and wizadry to win the day. ANY suggestions would be appreciated.

Right offhand, I'd say: Try to compare Redemption in Middle-Earth with that in Star Wars.

Wise vs. Weak, humble vs. proud, differing definitions of "greatness". Examples: Gandalf's interest in "hobbit studies" vs. Saruman's "evil studies". The Feanor family's greed vs. Bilbo's generosity. The 4 hobbits' growth vs. Denethor's fall.
