Ok here is a chance to give your thoughts about the actress playing perhaps the most important role in the trilogy (along with Galadriel). What do you think of her past work? Will she be good for the role?

Here are my thought:

Basically with the first movie Jackson has brought a lot of faith in me and many other people about his abilities and casting choices. LOL,even Arwen was ok to most...right you nit picky book chompers??? :D I think any doubts about how good she will be are at least somewhat put to rest....but not wholly. I am open and think she might turn out to be VERY good...but only time will tell. What are your thoughts? :)

And don't eat me alive about the book chomping stuff...I was just kidding! :D I chomp through some juicy russian novels...so look who's talking :D :D :D

I don't believe I had heard of Miranda Otto before I knew she was playing Eowyn. I sincerely hope she, and THEY don't mess up her character! But. . .I really want to see some more pictures of her (as Eowyn). I haven't seen very many. . .I'd really like to see her as Dernhelm! But I'll just have to wait, I suppose. So, hopefully she will do a good job. I have faith. . .mostly. But, does anyone know what other movies Miranda Otto has been in? Maybe that would help.

Not a clue about other movies, but I think that Peter Jackson can't mess up, he even made Arwen look plausible!!!

P.S. :D Russian novels???
What, like Crime and Punishment with all those weird people called Rajinsky and other things that you cant read? I just watched it on BBC2!

Long live the Shmen!!!! (sh-men.... my word for girls that dress like guys)

I'd luv to see how they pulled off Eowyn's Joan of Arc imitation I think it would be cool to see her actually getting dressed and turning into Dernhelm

(please don't flame me for the Joan of Arc thing.... I think that it's true)

I have no problem with the Joan of Arc thing. I think she could have been an influence. . .or not. Either way. . .but I can't wait to see the Eowyn/Dernhelm stuff in the movie! Hmm, I think I'll go try drawing a picture of her. . .just for fun. Anyway.

also I'd like to see when he/she offers a ride to Merry and whether or not Merry'll recognize her

That part too, definitely! Well, I guess I just can't wait to see the next two movies. I think they might try to expand the Eowyn loving Aragorn thing a bit, though. Which I hope they don't. I'm more interested in her despair after being turned down. Which is essentially the same thing, but oh well.

I like Eowyn, and I think Otto will do a fine job. The pictures are good.

Miranda Otto is 34 years old and is Australian. When filming the role of Eowyn She was 32/33.

Films:

What Lies Beneath
Thin Red Line

I have some concerns that Miss Otto is a bit to old. I saw pretty nice pic of her recently, but think she should have been younger. Eowyn should be more like 20's. She is young brash shield maiden. :)

Rosie: I have read War and Peace and am well into the Brother Karmazov. I plan on reading Crime and Punishment too. :D

Russian novels are some of the best in the world. Fydor Doestyevsky is king of that field though. :)

There are pictures of her at the official site, and at www.elfenomeno.com/peliculas/multilmedia/zindex.php

It's in Spanish, but it's pretty easy to navigate even if you don't speak the language.

Éowyn was 22 at the time of the War of the Ring, making Marinda Otto 10 years older than her character, thats no problem, because today they have this thing called "Make-Up" and "Acting".

It still helps to be young...even with makeup. Acting helps true...

She isn't bad....but she was 27-29 it would have been better.

I have faith that she will pull it off well, regardless of her age.

New Eowyn picture!!!!! This one is different from the other ones I've seen, so I was very happy to find it. It can be found here: http://www.sphaerentor.com/tolkien/index.php?file=archiv.php&id=342

along with two other new pictures from TTT.

She looks like Portia DeRossi. Good choice.

Actually, I was not aware of this actress until I saw her pic on the back of the Two Towers. She looks severe, tough as nails, and wise in the pic. I imagine she will do a fine job.

Actually, prior to LotR, I had never really seen or recalled most of the actors in the film. Of courseI knew of Christpher Lee, but didn't recognize Magneto as Gandalf til like the seventh viewing. Knew of John-Rhys Davies, always liked him. Remembered Sean Bean from "Sharpe's Rifles". Slightly remembered Elijah Wood from "The Ice Storm". Avoided Liv Tyler movies like the plague, couldn't even tell you one movie Kate Blanchett was in prior to this one.

I really liked Hugo Weaving, a new actor to me, as well as Sean Astin and Viggo Mortenson. Billy Boyd stole the show as Pippin.

The casting of Denethor looks interesting, not familiar with that actor. Veeeeery interesting that Billy Babbit from One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest will be playing Grima Wormtongue. The captain from Titanic as Theoden King is a nice choice as well. I am very curious how well Anthony Serkis [?] will play Gollum. that should be quite neat.

That new picture of her is much as I imagined her, and she does look like she's in her early twenties.

Nine months to go! Gah...

Sorry I didn't post this sooner, but Miranda was in a Masterpiece Theatre series called The Way We Live Now. Unfortunately part 4 of 4 was shown last night. Oh, well, maybe they'll show it again this summer and everyone can get a look at her abilities!
