View Full Version : That Treasure...

If you got to take a sixteenth share of Smaug's treasure, what kind of treasure would you take?
I would take raw gold and unset gems (Not the Arkenstone!!!) I would also wheedle lessons in goldsmithing out of the dwarves.

I would take fun magical stuff, like the harps that never go out of tune. Some gold would be nice, and a few pretty gems to keep around and look at.
Instruments, goblets, and weapons! Oh, my! Mithril would be nice.
Elf Girl
03-06-2002, 01:17 PM
Oh yeah. Mithril... I guess I'd take raw mithril instead of gold, even though I couldn't get as much.
Twilight

I doubt that they would give you much mithril consitering its comparative worth. A small ring being more than the Shire. I got the impression that the mithril that Bilbo recieved was more of an extra thing than a part of his share of treasure. Special gifts for his service.

A some kind of sword would look nice on that wall...

But it wasn't a ring that was worth more than the Shire, it was the Frodo's mithril coat, wasn't it?

I'd take a nice set of armor, preferrably mithril, a good sword, scabbard and rest I'd take as precious gems as I could find, as gold and silver are a bit hard too hard to transport.

Definitely the instruments, golden harps and such. There's nothing else I'd really want . . . maybe a nice sword or a shield or something.

since thranduil was the greedy sort , i'd offer my treasure as a dowry for an elf-maiden
Twilight

Good thinking afro-elf. Silver is a bit heavy to carry. You could have your entire share in emeralds, and give him a humungous pile of them. It would problably be enough to give you permanat residence, and at least one nice elf maiden

I think I'll try to take the Arkenstone.
Elf Girl
03-09-2002, 09:40 AM
I'd just stay out of trouble and leave the Arkenstone. I'd be worried that they'd get mad and not let me have anything.

you are right Elf girl, they will be mad. but if I'll sneak off...;)

I still wouldn't advise it. But whatever. I might also take some kind of gold flute, they're supposed to sound better than the silver ones.

Take as much dwarf craftsmanship as you can... it's worth more than raw stuff.
At least one good set of chain/scale armor, and some nice weapons.
Afro elf has a good plan, as well. I don't think It would be for me though.

With Dain and a few thousand grim dwarves approaching? Quite brave.
I'd just take my share and go home happy. Happier than from Blockbuster's.

Lets see....
Mithril armour and a sword, preferably of elven make. (Remember, Smaug raided more places then the lonely mountain, so who knows what he might have accumulated?)
Then a nice bridle and saddle for my horse, a circlet & jewellery, and some gems for my collection.
Do you think that'd be too much? :D
Elf Girl
03-14-2002, 07:50 AM
No, but I doubt you could take much more than that, and the gems wouldn't be of great quality.

i'd take a sword a few rare gems and some gold. and have the sword melted and reforged by the dwarves, and have them put a gold handle on it and encrest it with the gems. then i'd takes the rest to bree and some girl out on a nice fancy dinner.:D

Twilight

I think a sword would be nice to keep around. I would also liek some humongous weapon, liek a really bis sword or a big axe if possible. Not to use, just for display someplace around the house.

I'd take gold, silver. and mithril if possible. Then I'd use it to buy some of Frodo's feather beds! The rest would be to live off on for the rest of my life. If there was any extra it would go to the WWF (To make up for the feather beds)
Aragorn_iz_cool

Oh If I confused anyone by WWF I meant World Wildlife Fund NOT World Wresling association.

I would like a nice ornamental dagger or some jewelry.
Wow Aragorn_iz_cool, how noble of you!
TinuvielChild
04-20-2002, 09:33 AM
hey, cool new avatar Earniel! yeah, Aragorn_iz_cool, that's a really honorable thing to do with your share. i admire that, but i am too materialistic to actually do that myself. :D

I'd take a deep-red diamond. They are so rare, only 1 of reasonable size is on public display. (It's at the Smithsonian. I've seen it.):)
Michelle The Fair
04-21-2002, 09:13 PM
I would take diamonds, emeralds, rubies, saphiers, and have them set hair ornaments. A mithril shirt, a sword, and bow an arrows(with mithril tips).and some silver.

too many people have overlooked the arkenstone..:p

As it has been said that would be to dangerous to take.:( i would not chance it.

I might also take a small dagger, for the long journey home.
Beleg Strongbow
05-06-2002, 12:12 PM
I would take a mithril coat, regardless of how much of my share I had to sacrifice. It would help keep me safe on the way back.
Beleg Strongbow
05-06-2002, 12:14 PM
Likewise I would take most of my share in mithril crafts, because they're valuable and easy to carry to the Shire.
Plus a sword of course to get back with.
Unless I have Sting.
Why did they bury Orcrist?
In Moria, in TFR, only Frodo's blade can pierce the Cave Troll (Boromir's can't). But Orcrist was also an Elvish blade... You'd think those would be valuable to have for the Fellowship...

//me comes out of Lothlorien
I think they buried Orcrist to honor Thorin. As for the tresure...hmmm...mithril (duh), a sword, gold, a harp, and maybe one or two jewels. Nothing here that hasn't already been said. I think we all have about the same tastes.

Sword, bow w/ arrows, mithril coat, a saphirre,(its my birthstone) and some gold to donate to the WWF, silver ankle bracelet.:)

I would probably only take some gems. The fact is, i hate gold. I think that it is a horrible thing. The color makes me cringe. But, maybe i could take some and sell it. ( and wasn't it 1/14th? of the treasure.)

All this talk of your share of gems and swords, mithril and gold. Personally I'd rather have something a little better-why not just take it all and run?
Radagast The Brown
07-28-2002, 01:23 PM
you can't take it all and run, because the dwarves run faster then you when you hold so many gold coins, and mithril, and gems and swords... they'll caught you.

Goblets, a dagger, a sword, mithril, anything silver, and many gems.

ahhhhh, but that is where you bring in the magic of mercenaries. They could carry it all for me, or maybe I could hire an Istari to magic it all away. "Where there's a will, there's a way."

If you got to take a sixteenth share of Smaug's treasure, what kind of treasure would you take?
I'd rather not close this thread, but it is going off topic with arguments about taking the whole treasure. Just stick with the original point of discussion.

Load up on gems and antyhing made by elves, they are taking off so there is a finite amount of that stuff around. Of course you take what ever you need to defend yourself. Some gold as spending money and get out. The men and the dwarves are going to rain on your parade as soon as possible.;) ;) ;)
