omgosh ive just finished Return of the King like.... 10 minutes ago! I've been sat here with tears streaming down my face. I never thought that that would be the ending but it really is so perfect. oh i cant believe ive finished it for the first time... i think that even if someone had hated the book it would be worth reading the WHOLE thing just for those last few chapters because they are SO powerful.

It would be nice to read it just like it's the first time ever. Now I know the ending and although I still enjoy reading it, I miss the excitement of the first read. Second to that my sister had the nerve to tell about Gandalf before I read it. I made her regret that ever since.

I almost feel like I'm reading LOTR for the first time since it was around 9 yrs since the last time. The insights I get are different now, I admit. I tend to focus on the relationships and morality conflicts now more than the battles.

weve all had the same kinda problem as ur sister, were trying not to tell other Movie go-ers that hes still alive,
but its so difficult to keeep a secret

especailly when they keep saying "Gandalf was my favouirte, but hes dead now"

n e way, on the same track as u, my best mate told me about Gandalf before i read TTT, and i kept looking out for an opertunity for him to arrive, that was quite fun.

Sob! The ending is so great, but sooo sad. Not least of all because it is the end of a fantastic story.

Read it again. You will discover so many things you missed or forgot the first time around. Then when you are ready give the Silmarillion a try. But be warned, you better have a bulk pack of Kleenex on hand. Particularly when you get to Turin. Ahh, Turin and his friend Beleg, *sniff*...

Yes, I myself had difficulty keeping my mouth shut when a friend of mine was reading TTT. The point was that my sister first asked whether I was ever gonna read LOTR. I said "maybe", she immediatly took it as "no" since she's convinced that whenever I say maybe, I mean no.

When I came to that certain scene, I was puzzled because she had said he'd be back. And when I confronted her with it, she tried to wiggle out with the lame excuse she did'nt remember.

I have a question that apparantly has already been answered to some, but I just recently joined this forum and just found out-
why is there no 'scouring of the shire' in the RotK movie? I thought this was an essential part of the story- that the Immortals were no longer needed to assist in the strife of mortals, and that what happens far away can affect that which is dearest to you- your home.

It is a very hard to fit the scouring in an epic action-adventure movie, like the LOTR movie is shaping itself out to be. It's anti-climactic.
