Here's some... keep in mind I didn't make all of these up (I'm not THAT good)...

"Ent, Master of the Forest" = "affront threesome test"
"Lord of the Rings" = "fire stronghold"
"The One Ring" = "ere nothing"
"The Silmarillion" = "millionth serial"
"Tom Bombadil" = "bimodal tomb"

More on the way...

gatito

Hey IP,

These are kinda cool :) But why not just giving us the anagram and having us guess what word they are from. I think it would be fun.

IronParrot
06-22-2000, 12:32 AM
Sure thing...

Here's one from a character name: "Allied gay lard"

bmilder
06-22-2000, 12:51 AM
Hehe. This is a little different, but you know that poem about the rings?
3 for Elves
7 for dwarves
9 for men
1 to rule them all

Look at it backwards: 1973, Tolkien's year of death! Creepy, huh? ;)

IronParrot
06-22-2000, 12:58 AM
WHOA!

gatito
06-22-2000, 01:20 AM
Is it Lady Galadriel? I am not even sure if Lady is supposed to be in front of Galadriel. But that is what I came up with.

Darth Tater
06-22-2000, 01:29 AM
gatito, that's what I think too.

IronParrot
06-22-2000, 01:35 AM
Yep, it's Lady Galadriel.

Another character... "Burnt arbiter album"

anduin
06-22-2000, 02:13 AM
Hey Ben, I know I saw that the other day somewhere....where did you get it from?

bmilder
06-22-2000, 02:14 AM
Someone posted it at andustar's board.

anduin
06-22-2000, 02:23 AM
Weird, I don't think it was there.....oh well :)

noldo
06-22-2000, 07:31 AM
Iron, is it Barliman Butterbur?

gatito
06-22-2000, 12:51 PM
I couldn't get that one :) . More IP

IronParrot
06-22-2000, 08:21 PM
Yep, it's Barliman Butterbur.

Here's another one... a place...

"Hit-run logic" (don't do this while driving)

Sharku
06-22-2000, 08:33 PM
Cirith Ungol?

The One Ring
06-22-2000, 10:08 PM
Of course, don't forget our hero, "Food: bring gas", aka "Gas bod of ring", and his faithful companion, no doubt a relative of Jar-Jar Binks, "Mesa am egg". With their two comrades, "Cranky dumb berry" and "I pop ink pot", and led by the brave "Rang oar", along with the wise "Lad fang", accompanied by "Rib room", "Log sale", and last but not least, a poor dwarf whose name couldn't be made into any sort of anagram. These made up the "We poll fish", the brave census takers who risked everything to destroy the "Neon Rig".

IronParrot
06-23-2000, 12:32 AM
Yes, it's Cirith Ungol.

"Food: bring gas" = Frodo Baggins
"Mesa am egg" = Sam Gamgee
"Cranky dumb berry" = Merry Brandybuck :lol
"I pop ink pot" = Pippin Took
"Rang oar" = Aragorn
"Lad fang" = Gandalf
"Rib room" = ?
"Log sale" = Legolas :lol
"We poll fish" = ?
"Neon rig" = One Ring

Where's Gimli?

arynetrek
06-23-2000, 02:26 AM
"rib room" - Boromir
"we poll fish" - Fellowship

as for Gimli, i can't think of anythign to do with his name. anyone?

here's a few -
- "sami dril" (place)
- "maze held kar" (place? thing?)
- "rat fly botge" (person)

OK, that's enough...

aryne *

RKittle
06-23-2000, 03:16 PM
sami dril = Imladris
maze held kar = Kheledzaram
rat fly botge = Fatty Bolger

bmilder

Here's some stupid ones I made up...

Character:
Hal met the beers

Character:
Living for a leech, my mod

bmilder
06-24-2000, 07:54 PM
Aw, no one wants to guess :(
And those nasssty Barrow-wights, they've stolen our game!! ;) :p

noldo
06-24-2000, 08:29 PM
I tried to solve them! I really did! How about giving us a hint?

I even thought the first one was Lord of... something. What is it?!

IronParrot
06-24-2000, 08:30 PM
I'm still working on these too...

bmilder
06-25-2000, 02:15 AM
Ok Ok ;)

I really hope I didn't leave out any essential letters this time :p

Hal met the beers was not alive during the events of LotR, he was only mentioned

Living for a leech, my mod is the official title of someone.

IronParrot
06-25-2000, 03:33 AM
Umm... "Hal met the beers" is Elbereth something... hold on...

IronParrot
06-25-2000, 03:39 AM
Oh wait, "he"? Back to square one.

"Living for a leech, my mod" - I can't get beyond "lord of" either. Ben, are you sure these work?

bmilder
06-25-2000, 07:07 PM
Yes. I'll give the answers since I don't want to hold up the game :p

The first one is MALBETH THE SEER.

The second one is MAYOR OF MICHEL DELVING.

IronParrot
06-25-2000, 07:19 PM
Try these - they're easy.

Character: "Think role adhesion"
Character: "The rebel"
Character: "Afghan genetic summit"

noldo
06-25-2000, 07:22 PM
Bummer!!!

I almost got the 'Mayor of Michel Delving'!

bmilder
06-25-2000, 07:27 PM
Your second one is Elbereth. I'll work on the others...

bmilder
06-25-2000, 07:32 PM
The first one is Thorin Oakenshield.

Hmm, is the third one "SATANIC GENE FIGHT MUM"? ;)
I'll work on a better solution for that one :p

RKittle
06-26-2000, 03:26 PM
Afghan genetic summit = SMAUG THE MAGNIFICENT

bmilder
06-26-2000, 03:39 PM
Ohh... no wonder I couldn't find it in the LotR Index :p

Here's another dumb one:

PLUS A MEDIOCRE LOG HUNT

IronParrot
06-26-2000, 06:49 PM
Yep, Smaug is right.

Now, in that last one... I see "Denethor" and "Gondor" and such in it, but you can't make any sense from the rest of the letters...

bmilder
06-26-2000, 07:50 PM
Look to my icon for a hint ;)

noldo
06-26-2000, 07:59 PM
Gollum the ludicrous!!!

Nah, just kidding... These things give me a head-ache...

IronParrot
06-26-2000, 08:08 PM
"Gollum had the precious"

bmilder
06-26-2000, 08:10 PM
Basically. I believe the original was "Gollum and the precious" but I won't be picky :p

noldo
06-26-2000, 08:18 PM
So you basically mean I got it right? ;) ;)

IronParrot
06-26-2000, 08:27 PM
Here's another set of characters - they are all of the same race... that's your hint...

"Regard fry forgettable"
"Lift with wool"
"Slight backlog evasion"
"Homemade gargle gaff"
"Nasty demand"
"Sank aboard boot"

noldo
06-26-2000, 08:42 PM
Is the 5th one "Ted Sandyman"?

How about the 3rd one? Is it "Sackville-Baggins"?

bmilder
06-26-2000, 09:07 PM
I think there's a mistake with Homemade gargle gaff

I got Holmad Gaffer Gamgee when I think his name was Holman... unless I did it wrong

Bullroarer
06-26-2000, 09:19 PM
God Rags Bing

(Missing:G)

IronParrot
06-26-2000, 09:53 PM
The fifth one is "Ted Sandyman".

noldo, your other one was DEAD close, and so was yours, Ben... think about it for a moment...

Bullroarer, which one are you referring to?

IronParrot
06-26-2000, 09:56 PM
Nobody go to the Barrow-Downs! Sharku over there has already solved the six I gave you guys here...

bmilder
06-26-2000, 10:01 PM
Ok then it's Ham Gamgee, Old Gaffer

or some combo of those words.

Hmm... I was able to successfully take out "Sackville Baggins" from the third one and was left with "h t o o"

Maybe I did it wrong

IronParrot
06-26-2000, 10:50 PM
You're missing the overly obvious.

RKittle
06-26-2000, 11:59 PM
H-Too Sackville-Baggins, Lobelia's nephew ;)

bmilder
06-27-2000, 12:05 AM
Ok, so I'm an idiot :p
I realize now who H-Too is ;)

Bullroarer
06-27-2000, 04:38 PM
Otho Sackville-Baggins

arynetrek
06-29-2000, 10:25 PM
hey! i'm here & it's not the middle of the night!

#2- Will Whitfoot

these were already answered, i think
#3- Otho Sackville-Baggins
#4- Old Ham Gaffer Gamgee
#5- Ted Sandyman

On both of these there's one letter left over - am i anywhere near right?
#1- Fredegar Fatty Bolger?
#6- Bandobras Took?

IronParrot
06-30-2000, 05:39 PM
There isn't one letter left over. You just left out one letter in your answer.

Yes, they're all right.

arynetrek
07-02-2000, 05:17 AM
i just looked them up, & i spelled both of them right -
?????????????????

IronParrot
07-02-2000, 05:32 AM
That's strange... that's not supposed to happen.

I'll check it out for myself later on...
