In addition to Galadriel and Elrond, who is the third elf in possession of a ring of power?? I have searched and been unsuccessful thus far.

Cirdan and then Gandalf wore Narya. Gil-galad then Elrond wore Vilya (or was it Nenya...for some reason I get those two confused....no wait that was Galadriel's....see confused. :D )

LuthienTinuviel

yea anduin, yer right.
galadriel wore nenya, the ring of adament (?)
cirdian(sp?) gave gandalf the ring of fire, narya, which had a eally sweet looking (well at least sweet looking to me) red stone.
and gil-galad wore vilya, thie ring symbolising air (i think) but then elrond must have inheirited after gil-galad fell. i think it was made of gold with a nice blue stone.

nenya was wrought of mithril and had a nice white stone that is said to have the light of earendil.. i would so LOVE to have this ring, or a ccopy of it.

hmm i wonder if my school's jewelry clas could come in handy, heh..heh..

but then elrond must have inheirited after gil-galad fell

I think he actually gave it to Elrond before he set out for the Last Alliance, incase of Sauron aquiring it.

It was LuthienTinuviel. Auduin is an old lady who doesn't go to school.

Anduin doesn't go to school, but she's not exactly an 'old lady'. You're thinking of Sister Golden Hair.

I knew she isn't really an "old lady", I was comparing her to most other visitors to Entmoot.

well in australia we have TAFE (tech college) and that offers jewellery making courses. perhaps there's a similar type of institute wherever in the world you are? :)

Yeah, I know. I had the flu when I posted this, so my brain wasn't working right.

omg, that is so not fair!!! i wish i could take a jewelrymaking class!!! :) anyway, yeah galadriel had nenya and she was the only one to have it. nenya was the ring of adamant (?) and ruled water i think..
gil-galad had vilya, which was the most powerful of the 3, the ring of air, and passed it on to elrond
cirdan was the possessor of narya, the second-most powerful, the ring of fire with a lovely red stone, then it was passed to mithrandir aka gandalf...incidentally, i think that's how gandalf defeated muar the balrog, bcuz Narya controls fire and balrogs are creatures of fire. :) hope this helped!

and i am still insanely jealous of LuthienTinuviel, who gets to take a jewelry-making course...*goes and sits in the corner, sulking*

:D

I don't think the "Fire" "Air" "Water" properties of the Rings are to be taken literally.

Yeah, one symbolized fire, one air, and one water. But that doesn't mean they are for controlling those 3 elements or for anything like that, this isn't Captain Planet.

And I doubt Gandalfs ring helped him as far as battle wise, Cirdan said it was used to "rekindle hearts" and such. It was probably used for rejuvinated Theoden and rekindling hope in the people of Gondor, but I doubt it had any battle use. After all the whole purpose of the elven rings was to keep the elves from fading, not to make them more powerful.
