You mean Bram Stoker's Dracula? :) I slept with a crucifix around my neck for two weeks after reading that! Scared the bejeezus outta me!

It's definitely a lot creepier; especially in his hometown where he has spies and you have nowhere to run.

YES! I love Dracula! It beats the **** out of the modern vampire junk. I'm planning to start reading it again tonight. The first time I read it, I refused to read it before bed for fear of nightmares. I love that book!:D

Thats one book I can never read at night.
Present day movies, etc. don't come close although I did like Frank Langellas portrayal.

Just a question for Dracula fans, Have you noticed that Dr. Seward's first name changes from Jack to John, or am I just imagining things?

No, but I haven't read Dracula in about ten years. It may be that it was a pet name too. *shrugs*
Great and SPOOKY book tho. *shudders*

It was just a nickname. I just found out today that Jack is a nickname for John which makes no sense whatsoever. Oh well.

Yeah, that is one cool book. That is one of my favorite classics. Freaky as heck too.

I need to read it. Especially considering I'm making a movie about vampires. . .:D (darn, the teeth aren't sharp!)
My friend keeps telling me not to, 'cause it's scary and whatnot. I can imagine why, but I still got to read it!

Definitly read it! The first time I read it I carried garlic around with me like forever. It's very good. :)

Not only is Dracula different, but it irks me how movies ALWAYS seem to change Frankenstein around so much. I recommend that book highly. It's very different than the movies I've seen.

thats a scary one - it really makes you feel sorry for the young man involved.

Dracula gave me nightmares. When they stopped I read it again!:D I loved it. I like the newer books on vampyres too. They're not all junk.

I enjoyed the Anne Rice books I read, but they got to be a little much as they went on. I read the first 4. I guess Queen of the Damned is coming out soon, huh?

Anne Rice wrote a series of vampire books, starting w/ Interview with the Vampire, which ws made into a movie (R rated) starring Tom Cruise and Brad Pitt. Queen of the Damned is the third book in the series. (oops, I guess I've just read the first 3 not the first 4)

For that matter, why does the h in Thomas disappear in Tom?

Dunno. I've seen Thom as a name though.

I think it was in the Into the land of the Unicorn books. There are lots of interesting vampyre stories out there though. Especially the Southern Vampyre books. So are the Blood books.

Interview with the Vampire was pretty good for a movie adaptation

Try looking in the Library - if you cant find it there and want to buy it go to a bookstore and look in the Classics section for Dracula. good luck - its a good book to read :)

Or look in a used bookstore. Any decent one should have a copy.

I hated the book Frankenstein. But hey, that's just me.

One thing to keep in mind, the original authors copies of these books are what you're looking for. Make sure it's "Shelley" and "Stoker" when you look for authors of Frankenstein and Dracula. There is a lot of duplicaiton out there.

I read the right Frankenstein, I just didn't like it. Not my taste.

I found the original Dracula in a dusty used bookstore in Homer, Alaska a few days ago, so I bought it. It's rather interesting so far, but I havent' read much yet.
I read Frankenstein a few years ago for school. I thought it was good. :)

I thought Frankenstein was boring, but I was kinda being forced to read it, so that might have influenced my judgement.

Being forced to read a book generally does have that effect. "You mean I can't just enjoy the book, I have to write a paper on it?!"

Actually, I didn't even have to do a paper on it. I just had to read it. It didn't even have to be that book. Maybe it was just being forced to read in general that made me not like it. I usually love to read though...

tsk, tsk. So many good books can easily be ruined by being forced on people (especially when papers must be written!) :)
At my school you never got away with just reading a book. You had to write a paper, and probably have it be over-analyzed in discussions.
Fortunately, I ended up enjoying a lot of those books anyway. Wouldn't it have been sad if I hated Alice in Wonderland just because I had to read it for school?
