There isnt much romance in the LOTR and what there is seems pretty sparce.About the only "Romantic' scenes to me are those between Faramir and Eowyn who even share a KISS!

So now a few speculative questions based on the two lovers tale mentioned above.

Where, when and under what circumstances do you think the following couples shared their first kiss?.Brownie points for good detail, romanticism and fitting the background of LOTR.

Aragorn and Arwen.

Sam and Rose.

Eomer and Lothiriel.

Well I would assume aragorn and arwen when they first meet in the woods, I mean they didnt fall and love and not touch right? I mean at this point they didnt know it was forbidden.

:p Read the Story of Beren and Luithiun (forgive spelling) in the Silmarillion - its very romantic :)

How about
Turin and Niniel-best siblings in a romantic role
Dis-the real bearded lady
Erendis-frigider then the average numenorian
Nimrodel-one of the less lucky elven folk
Maeglin-most treacherous unrequited love

The story of Turin and Niniel is one of the most powerful in The Silmarillion, IMO.

I felt sorry for Findulas, unrequited love sucks!

Eowyn has that problem for a while, too, Nimrodel. I always felt really bad for her, when Aragorn is heading off for the Paths of the Dead, and not only makes her stay home (not for long! hahaha...nevermind.) but is also rejecting her love (sorta). Anyway, I agree, unrequited love is awful!

Sam and Rosie....
probably right after they returned.....she couldn't have kissed him goodbye because she didn't know he was going (poor girl!)
This is a cute thread!

I had always assumed that since Aragorn and Arwen grew up together, they would have shared their first kiss as young adults, far from the watchful eye of ol' dad (Elrond). After all, Aragorn was raised by Elrond at Rivendell and Arwen is Elrond's daughter. However, I just read that they didn't meet until Aragorn was 20 (I wonder how many centuries old Arwen was - talk about your May/December romance). Obviously, Arwen, as an elf, is much older than Aragorn, so they couldn't have shared a childhood. So, my question is, where was Arwen during Aragorn's time at Rivendell as a child/young adult?

I would assume that Arwen was in Lothlorien then, in her mother's land (Did anyone else have a hard time thinking of Galadriel as Arwen's grandmother?), and that would explain why Aragorn would mistake her for Luthien.

It's written in the Appendices that she was in Lorien, something like "dwelt long in the land of her mother and was only recently restored to...", don't know much about quotes.

What about Idril and Tuor? Those two are a sad reminder of what Turin could have been.

Aragorn and Arwen didn't actually meet until Aragorn was an adult, did they?

I believe they met when he was a young adult in Rivendell while Aragorn was still under the care of Elrond. The whole story is in Appendix A after ROTK.
