Bombur. He's absolutely my favorite. I love the quote about him in LotR:
"Bombur was now so fat that it took six young dwarves to move him from his couch to his table." (paraphrased). LOL!
Balin is second. He's nice to Bilbo. :)

I also liked Balin for much the same reasons. I liked Fili and Kili as well

I liked Dori (the strongest of the Company). He was always getting stuck with carrying Bilbo everywhere and grumbling about it. Rather amusing.

Auger. from the novel "A Walk out of the World" by Ruth Nichols. its lighter reading than Tolkien for Ruth was only 18 or 19 when she wrote it. but good reading nonetheless. and i dont know if i could say Auger is the best dwarf, but one of my favorites no doubt.
of Tolkien's dwarves i loved Balin the best. he actually visited Bilbo after their adventure. he was really kool.

I personally liked Thorin the best, I was really impressed with the character change he had during the story, in my opinion, he had the most personality.

At first, I didn't aprove of Thorin that much. He though of himself as being superior to the others, and kind of looked down on them. He did stay that way through most of the book, as seen in the interactions with the elven king and the lakemen. There was gradual improvement, and he did show a change before his death. I respect him for that.

Hmmm . . . I could never quite forgive Thorin for being so full of himself. Although it was rather amusing. :)

There all the same anyway apart from a few personality differences. So going by these mine would have to be Fili.

Fili and Kili! They reminded me of Pippin...young, energitic, but so tragic. (PS...That last point doesn't apply to Pippin,of course.)

I would have to say Balin. Anyone who is a friend of Bilbo (my favorite Tolkien character) is awesome!:D I also like Thorin, except for his arrogance.

I liked Balin for much the same reasons. Thorin evoked the same feelings as I had for Boromir. Proud, stubborn, annoying. But in the end both came around, and I was sorry that they died.

I don't like Thorin because of the same reasons. He didn't liked Bilbo from the start of the book and he annoyed me!!!

Hmm. The nicest dwarves were probably Balin and Dori, because they were nice to Bilbo. Isn't it weird how we all seem to jude them on whether they are nice to Bilbo or not! lol
The funniest is definately Bombur!

Of course we are because he is the main-chracter. If Thorin was the main chracter it was a different dwarf (or hobbit).

Poor Thorin -- he really wasn't that bad to Bilbo, except when overcome with gold lust (it could happen to some hobbits I have known . . . oops, wrong book). Apart from Bilbo, he's my favorite character in the book because of that dramatic change in the end: one minute he's making a fool out of himself atop the wall with Bilbo, and the very next time we see him he's a noble dwarf leading a charge and drawing everyone to him, including Men and Elves. That's very interesting (not to mention a difficult literary achievement to pull off well).
He's a little too kingly to be my favorite dwarf, though. That would be Balin -- he is the most thoughtful towards Bilbo and visits him later on, but I especially like all the fuss he makes about his air holes as Bilbo is packing him into the barrel in the Elven King's cellar...not to mention that he's such a good lookout that he always gets the job, in spite of his wearing red.

i liked thorin for some reason i am not sure why. bilbo is my favourite character in the book though. not that that has much to do with this thread...
i find myself saying the same thing i said about smaug (basically).
i liked that thorin was so arrogant. though being arrogant doesnt make him cool, i like him because he is arrogant. and because i just like him. if that makes any sense whatsoever.

Of Gandalf's thirteen, I like Balin, thoughtful and nice to Frodo, and Thorin, because behind his arrogance and pride he really did have a nice heart.
If it was outside the thirteen, well...

my favourite dwarf would be be Thorin. He is so valiant and for his part in the battle of five armies alone he would be my favourite. I also liked balin for looking out for bilbo.
I dont think enough is said about the other Dwarves to distinguish which one is the better.

Although Thorin Isn't really a likeable character, His death scene with Bilbo, when they reconcile, really chokes me up. There are alot of touching moments throughout JRRT, and this is definately one of them.

I liked Thorin a lot--he is probably the most complex Dwarf ever, aside from Gimli. Thorin went from being high-and-mighty to alarmingly obsessive to redemptive at the end. The many sides of his character were well depicted and entertaining to read.
I also liked Dáin, who (I'm not sure about the spoiler policy here, so I'll err on the side of caution) had slain Azog, thereby avenging his great-uncle Thrór and his father Náin and ending the War for Vengeance--all at the very young age (for a Dwarf) of thirty-two. His dealings with Elves and Men (and a hobbit) after the Battle of the Five Armies showed fair-mindedness and generosity, and I daresay he made a better King under the Mountain than Thorin himself would have.
The elderly and kindly Balin was also endearing, though I agree scarlet isn't the best color for a lookout. His later demise as Lord of Moria added a kind of tragic grandeur to his story, without making him any less the grandfatherly Dwarf with an affinity for seed-cake and beer.
Alas, Fili and Kili, we barely knew ye... Besides being plucky and loyal young Dwarves they were also the last of Thrór's line, and that entire line died out with them. In many ways Thrór and his descendents were symbolic of the hardship of Dwarves in a darkening world, and I was sorry to see their story end this way.
The blunt-speaking Glóin was also a favorite, if only because of his son. And anyway the fellow has his good points--he can be hasty, as shown in both The Hobbit and LoTR, but he's also quick to admit it if he's shown to be in the wrong. Come to think of it, that's true of aforementioned son, too. ;)
Argh, too many to choose from! I'm just a little dwarf-obsessed, in case you can't tell... :)

Fili, Kili, Balin (he's very elven exept for the fact he's a dwarf) and Oin (he keeps a journal, I find people who keep journals are usually clever and reasonable):D

I really hated Bombur in the beginning, but that was a long time ago.
When I read The Hobbit for the first time I remember thinking "how can all the dwarfes survive every adventure?". I thought that at least Bombur would die very soon (because of his weight, of course) and that the weakest dwarves would follow him sooner or later.
But every dwarf survives, except for the one I believed was the strongest; Thorin.
But now, I don't hate Bombur anymore. On the contrary I like him very much. I loved to read that he had become even more fat in LotR
My favourite dwarf is Balin, it hurt me to find him dead in LotR.
But after reading LotR, I started to like Glóin, since he and Bilbo had a little chat in Rivendell. That made me nostalgic and made me want to read The Hobbit again. And when Gimli, the son of Glóin,

well my favourite dwarves from the hobbit are fili and kili as in the battle of five armies they defended thorin with their own bodies.they were brave warriors and were willing to lay down their lives for him.

my favourite was thorin. All though he was a bit greedy he wanted what belonged to him. (the gem i can't remember, bilbo found it i think). he was allways serious and smart. Great worrier.
all though my favorite all time dwarf would be durin the deathless.

Bombur, Kili, Fili, and Balin. Besides Dori and Thorin, they were really the only ones that developed a personality throughout the book. The others weren't mentioned as often. Bombur just seemed absolutely adorable, and i can just imagine the fat little dwarf whining to let him go back ot sleep. Kili and Fili were the young ones that always got stuck with the bad jobs, but they seldom complained, the ending was so tragic! They had the most potential to become great in the end, soo sad....Balin was just a good guy, always treated Bilbo well. I really didn't like Thorin, he always underestimated Bilbo, and he was extremely greedy, which i suppose is the dwarf way, but still. Dori was a good dwarf, and would probably be my fifth favorite.
