I agree with you on quite a few of the classical songs, but I'm not a big Frank Sinatra fan.
I also like: Cherish (by Association), Brandy You're A Fine Girl (by Looking Glass), and a bunch of other oldies. (Those two are the best oldies, though.)
There are a few other random songs I like, such as Rhythm of Life (has anyone else heard of that besides me? I heard it on a Colorado Children's Choir tape, and occasionally hear it sung by school choirs).

CardenIAntauraNauco - I like classical music too! As a matter of fact, I forgot a song on my list: "Procession of the Nobles" from Mlada, by Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov.
There was a kid at my middle school who used to play Flight of the Bumblebee for us . . . it was amazing, he was extremely talented. I could hardly see his fingers move. My jealous was extreme. :D

I love anything classical...Beethoven's Fur Elise and Ode to Joy especially.
But my true love lies in Broadway songs!
Has anyone ever heard the original Broadway recording for "The Secret Garden?" Those are some of the most beautiful and thrilling songs I've ever heard. I love "Oliver!" as well...but that's because I like the story.
Plus I love most of the patriotic songs that exist.
(P.S.I read through the big long post, too, Carden! It was fun, actually!)

Classical music has been proven to make you smarter.
I love classicaly music...except Debussy...don't like that. I like choral pieces as well...they make my spine tingle (the good ones, like "Who Are The Brave" and "Inscription of Hope")
Oh, and Gregorian chants!
FrodoFriend

Yeah, I like chants too. They're very peaceful and harmonizing, a beautiful form of music.

so did i and i share those sentiments, although i certainly wouldn't say i dislike sinatra! love grieg and beethoven too, (*copy & paste*) CardenIAntauraNauco, although i've just learnt cannon on guitar and i'm sick of it already. it's overplayed, just like fur elise (sp?) :)
i saw the clip for iron maiden's "number of the beast" today and i've had it in my head allll day! and judas priest's "pain killer" is a great song too. also metallica's "four horsemen" has been common in my play list as it's the song i'm currently learning *woohoo*
although my favourite? impossible to choose.

There are alot of songs that I like, too many to post. I like songs that are upbeat when I'm happy or want to be in a good mood. But when I'm depressed, I like slow, soothing songs. Brian McKnight is a really cool artists that does slow songs. :)

I remember the days here at Entmoot when I would be shunned for my taste in today's music. Now I don't really care for today's music, but it seems to be somewhat accepted.
Doesn't anyone else here like Led Zeppelin or Queen or anything?
CardenIAntauraNauco
02-08-2002, 08:13 PM
Yeah *starts to copy and paste but decides not to because he's lazy* luniwen Fur Elise is very overplayed as is Cannon in D and Bizet's famous opera.
Have you ever heard Debussy's Clair De Lune, Star polish. That was his greatest work and the only composition I listen to by him.
Procession of Nobles huh? Orchestestral Piece? I have yet to find a Rimsky-Korsakov cd. The porportion of Classical to Country at Wal-mart is around 1:200. It's really annoying.
Back in the days of napster (God bless it's soul) I found Flight of the bumble bee on trumpet, tuba, trombone, and vocal which was particularly impressive.
I forgot Two by Ravel
Bolero and
Pavane for a Deceased Infanta
And a choral piece from the early 1200's called
O Nata Lux
I suggest the latter one to all of you who have an affinity towards Gregorian chants.

I'm learning a Debussy piece (on piano) called "Golliwog's Cake Walk". It's hard to play, but it sounds really neat. I think it's a 20th Century style piece (clashing notes), although it might be just a really odd romantic piece. There's another Debussy piece in my piano book called "Doctor Gradus ad Parnassum". I haven't played much of it yet, but what I have played is pretty. It's mostly arpeggios.
Anyway, those two pieces are pretty cool.

Classical-wise, I love saint-sans' Danse Macabe and Rokmoninof's Rhapsody on a Theme of Paginini. (i'm sure my spelling errors abound)
Classic rock-wise I agree with Anduin and company that you just can't go wrong with Queen and Led Zepplin.
Classical might make you smarter but Quiet Riot is good for your metal health:p
In new music I love the Gin Blossoms "Until I Fade Away"
And "Sweet Child of Mine" will always be a personal favorite.

ha,ha,ha BoP. I know you hate me, you must think I'm some Martha Stewart prig or something, but you like many of the songs I like. I saw the All things must pass concert in Chicago, It was very exciting as he was the first beatle to tour after the break up. This was a very big WOO! at the time. I almost fell asleep sitting thru his opening act Ravi Shankar tho. Kraftwerk were great and have seen the Ramones so many times I've lost count. I kinda quit listening to music so much after getting older tho, too busy. My husband's rockabilly band opened a show for the Ramones once inChicago. That was fun. Trivia for Bop. When you climb the ladder and open the door on the ceiling, what does it say? Oh yeah, Iggy yes!

Old Neil! His guitar solos get me yelling (TURN THAT DOWN!) my husband likes to tease me with it. I love his melodic stuff like Cinnamon Girl and Down by the River. Like a Hurricane is nice too. I saw him when he did the Farm Aid here in Indy, his guitar solos made me scream! I faintly remember seeing him with Linda Ronstadt back in 1972, but they were playing together and it was second bill to someone else, dang if I can remember. I really upped my opinion of old Neil when I read about his handicapped son. He's going to be on the new Farm Aid this month I believe, I guess you don't get CMT (Country Music Television) in New Zealand? :)

Hey, about Neil Young: I saw him in concert in the 80's -- very enjoyable. As far as his style, I recently saw something about him that upped my opinion of him, too. I guess he got sick of the record companies trying to force him into "formula" albums (this was many years ago), so he put out a country album and also a rockabilly style album, which made the record cos. angry. I thought that was great!

I remember that! The company was mad cause his album "Trans" wasn't "rock" enough. (It was his comment on how difficult it is to be handicapped {his son has serious communication problems} in a world filled with "normal" people).... anyway, He did the rockabilly one, (we have it, it's pretty good!) as an answer to the stupid marketing suits at his record label, here.... is this Rock-n-Roll enough for you? Neil's always been into country!

Mirial, I love your taste in music (or -- as certain unbelievers & old people would call it -- screaming into a microphone a lot).
Also, I stated in a previous post that my favorite song was Orion by MetallicA. I only stated one song because I thought that was the rule (title is favorite song -- not songs). But since everyone else is posting multiple songs I would like to change my mind (if that is not against the rules;) ).
I would like to extend my favorites to all of MetallicA's instrumentals --
-(Anesthesia) -- Pulling Teeth
-The Call of Ktulu (original and S&M version)
-Orion
-To Live is to Die
Even if you don't like MetallicA, I suggest you try to listen to some of these if possible. It's great stuff!

I'm going through a Stairway to Heaven phase at the moment. I never really bought into the song, thought it was one of their weakest IMO, but then I got subjected to a crappy classic rock station at work (think foo fighters, red hot chilli peppers, eminem, etc), and every now and then Stairway to Heaven pops up; made me realise how good the song is.

I've already mentioned on the Beatles thread that my favorite song is Day Tripper. Others of theirs include The Ballad of John and Yoko, A Day in the Life, Hey Jude, Strawberry Fields Forever, Glass Onion, and oh hell, too many to name. Among other artists, favorites include Deuce, Calling Dr. Love, and 100,000 Years by KISS, Ted Just Admit It and Ain't No Right by Jane's Addiction, Love Me Two Times by the Doors, Brothers Gonna Work it Out by Public Enemy, Them Bones and We Die Young by Alice in Chains, Breed by Nirvana, That'll Be the Day by Buddy Holly, Sing a Simple Song by Sly and the Family Stone, and I guess that'll do. Yup. :D I have a lot of his albums, but I don't have any of his best ofs. Is this the new one, or is it one of the already existing ones? The new best of is catered according to what each country's top songs were, so NZ could well have a different compilation from Aussie.

I like the Red Hot Chilli Peppers most of the times, Flea is one hell of a bass player and John Frusciante is a very knowledgable player, but I hate it when they switch from nice, melodic, funk-rock to moronic commercial pop or even worse, Rap.

Ach, it's the melancholy tripe the chilli's are doing at the minute I can't stand:mad:
They may as well have remixed Under the Bridge a dozen times for their latest album......In six months time Terry Wogan will be playing 'em on Radio 2:rolleyes:

This could be quite true for all I know. Unfortunately I'm only familiar with their last two albums, which quite frankly suck.

I usually find these are the best kind of threads to jump in on with a new board, so here we go. (Seemed like the thread/forum needed reviving anyway:))
I listen to more or less anything, and my favorite songs of the moment change a lot, but if I was stuck on a desert island with only 3 cds, they would be American Beauty by the Dead, Blackout! by Method Man/Redman, and the Marvin Gaye compilation I have. You gotta have a little variety on a desert island anyway :)

The crownless again shall be King!

Zeppelin are the perfect example one how great music can be when the entire band work together well.
First you have quite possibly one of the best all-round guitarists in Page, theres nothing he can't do to some extent. Then you have John Paul Jones, I can't even begin to describe his skills. Interesting fact - He was unprepared for the Bass Line for the Lemon song, so he improvised the whole song, pretty amazing. Then there's John Bonham, the reason why Zeppelin needed bigger amps. If you listen carefully to a lot of Zeppelin recordings, he never repeats a lot of his beats, instead he variates his thumping which is intriquing. Then there is Plant, who I kinda hate in a way, still, he's a killer singer.

Didnt know that about the lemon song. Jones is so aloof now about his Zeppelin years. he always seemed like the quiet outsider. And yeah Bonham revolutionized the physics of the drum stick really. what did you have against Plant? hes a bit of a weirdo but he was an incredibly talented singer and took a blues singing style to rock that no one had done before. he also, of course, introduced the concept of high range singing in males as intensley masculine and that begat heavy metal.

heres a good song by good charlotte
yea this song is dedicated to every kid
who ever got picked last in gym class...
THIS IS FOR U. to every kid had never had
date to no school dance... THIS IS FOR U.
to everyone who's ever been called a freak..
THIS IS FOR U. here we.. WHAT.. HERE WE GOOO)
OoooOoo OoooOoo OoooOoo OoooOoo (here we go)
like the time in school when we got free lunch
and the cool kids beat us up. and the rich kids
had convertibles, and we had to ride the bus.
like the time we made the baseball team and they
still laughed at us. like the time that girl broke
up with me cuz i wasn't cool enough (TRICK).
THAaaANX THAaaANX... HERE WE GOOOO
*chorus*
the little things, the litte things
they always hang around
the little things, little things
they try to break me down
the little things, little things
they just won't go away
the little things, little things
make who i am today (GOO)
you wanna hate me now
but i won't stop now, cuz i can't stop now
*chorus*
(WHHATT UH here we go)
like the time mom went to that institute,
cuz she was breaking down. like the car we
had that wouldn't start, we had to walk to
get around (can i get a ride?). and that same
year on christmas eve, dad went to the store.
we checked his room. his things were gone. we
didn't see him no more (DICK).
THAaaANX THAaaNX... HERE WE GOOOO
*chorus*
LITTLE THINGS, LITTLE THINGS, LITTLE THINGS,
LITTLE THINGS....
OoooOoo OoooOoo OoooOoo OoooOoo (here we go)
and it always seems those little things
they take the biggest part of me..
it always seems those little things
they take the biggest part of me..
it always seems those little things
they take the biggest part of me..
and i know that those little things,
they make the biggest part of me
break down... i'm breakin down.
break down. gotta maintain.
